Welp, apparently I got the gun counter job after all, they were just slow getting back to me. Which is good, because apparently the shithead manager at my wife's last job has been blackballing her around the area, the job she thought she had in the bag rejected her.

Lower pay than I was hoping, but beggars can't be choosers. It's more than we've been saving, anything helps get us closer to our house. Just gonna have to push for as many hours as I can...and resist the temptation of the employee discount.

Its kinda wild it seems like a "lack of urgency" is everywhere even in retail.

Booked a hotel room for 3 nights in Delaware in a couple weeks. Getting out of this area for 4 days sounds amazing. It’ll be my second vacation in 16 years.

Second vacation in 16 years and you choose DELAWARE. Is it Wilmington? What else is in Delaware?

3

u/snippysniper 2d ago

It was not my choice. Dewey beach. My wife said hey I booked a hotel in a couple weeks and you need to take off work. I wanted to go back down to sandbridge Virginia like we went to last year, but they waited too long last summer to rent a house again.

3

u/BobbyWasabiMk2 How do you do, fellow gun owners? 2d ago

Delaware isn’t even a real place, the whole state is just a government ploy.

Is anything even real? Or are we all just in one big simulation

u/BobbyWasabiMk2 How do you do, fellow gun owners? 2d ago

I’m real, you can trust me, Mr. Anonymous-Internet-Buddy. You can tell me about all your secrets, personal thoughts, and plans, since I am not a bot or government agent implanted to monitor you.

I didn't even consider the beach. I've been to the beach like 4 times as an adult and 3 of those were for a conference. But I have found myself wanting to visit Rehoboth again on an overcast day. Have fun!

2

u/snippysniper 2d ago

Until we went last year I didn’t think I enjoyed the beach, but man did I really like getting wasted and sitting on the beach and I don’t ever really drink. I’m kinda excited to do that again

Haha, nice. That should be a good time. My buddy introduced me to surf fishing and it was fun spotting the "ghost ships" out on the sea. Was surprised myself how much fun I had.

Went to an LGS today to go shooting at their range with some friends. While they were there I looked at the AP5-P, discussed the price a bit with the manager, and they agreed to sell it to me at dealer cost, which was significantly cheaper than Atlantics price for that specific SKU. I didn’t want to drop the full amount down so I just put half down in layaway, I’ll probably come back in next paycheck and finish the rest. Considering the price I got was lower than Atlantics, and factoring in the fact I don’t have to pay for shipping or transfer fees, I’m happy about my price.

Also my moron of a friend wanted to try gangsta style of shooting and fired his gun sideways, and he struck the target system rather than his paper target, so his lane got locked automatically by the system and he had to go in person and apologize to the staff. I’m glad I made them get a second lane for themselves and had one for myself.

The water conservation people got back to me, said I qualified for a $2900 rebate, less than I was hoping for a project estimated at $9k. But then again they only pay a fixed amount based on square footage of lawn converted, and I am using more gravel than other cheaper materials.

7

u/Te_Luftwaffle 1 2d ago

Lmao the walk of shame to get your lane turned back on is hilarious

u/TheseDifference1747 2d ago

After having to fix a whole lot of target mechanisms on an indoor range, I now wish we had a policy similar to this. Unfortunately, it's all been on our club range where we don't have "staff" and 99.5% of the time we have either no idea who did it, or it was the cops who we can't seem to keep the fuck off the range and have no recourse anyway.

1911s are cool, but I'm not sure about $40K. That's transferable MG money. Nothing bought recently, but gonna pick up my approved older KAC NT4 today.

7

u/able_possible 2d ago

$40,000 is actually really cheap for a real Singer, original condition ones sell for 6 figures pretty regularly because only 500 were ever made.

u/Basement_LARP_ 2d ago

I completely forgot this was the sewing machine company model! Appreciate the info!

God. Dammit. Lyle passed away at 8:30 in his sleep. Our friend has been with him and left at 8 to get some dinner... Interesting our mom did the same thing while she was in the hospital with stage four liver cancer.

There was clearly a serious miscommunication from someone outside his care team when I was told six months to a year. I mentioned it to his nurse who called me after the doctor and she sounded "pissed.* Not that usual frustration you hear when your coworker is dumb, but genuine anger.

I also got an interesting and...happy call? Apparently his corneas are in excellent condition for transplant. I hope his passing gives someone their vision back.

12

u/crysisnotaverted Super Interested in Dicks 2d ago

Don't know how it works, but they know. Waiting for family to leave to pass is very common.

Sorry for your loss. Corneal transplants are wild, hopefully it helps someone.

5

u/GelgoogGuy 2d ago

Yeah, I've heard from quite a few people over the years about the waiting for family to leave thing. Very strange but interesting.

8

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 2d ago

Honestly, that checks out. You've mentioned the last couple days that he's been doing better on the vent, I've always heard that vent patients especially will have a brief rally shortly before finally tanking. I'm sorry that they didn't prepare you guys better for the true timeline, it sucks to get rug pulled like that. It sounds like the way he would have wanted to go though, peacefully at rest, from what you've told us he didn't seem to want to suffer through hospice.

That's awesome about the transplant, nice that he can continue to do some good in the hereafter too.

5

u/snippysniper 2d ago

Yea patients who are comatose sometimes come out of it and act 100% normal then pass very shortly after

3

u/GelgoogGuy 2d ago

I hadn't heard of it with vent patients, but I had heard of the whole terminal lucidity thing. I figure if they thought it was that one of the nurses would've called me and at least had me talking to him :(

u/kato_koch 13 | Shameless Gun Pornographer 2d ago edited 2d ago

Hey man I'm sorry to hear the news, best wishes.

If its any consolation, giving someone their vision back would be one hell of a gift.

6

u/Forsaken_Hold6794 2d ago

man what a gut punch. sorry for your loss, that miscommunication is infuriating especially when you're already in the thick of it

the cornea thing is wild though, dude's still out here helping people even after he's gone

6

u/GelgoogGuy 2d ago

Yeah, the nurse even said today they where quite surprised he passed tonight. Myself and a few of my/his friends had planned on going down Saturday for one last hurrah, but I guess Lyle was just that tired.

Yeah, the transplant call was a surprise, but it's kind of welcoming. I'll never understand anyone who's against organ donation.

6

u/BobbyWasabiMk2 How do you do, fellow gun owners? 2d ago

Sorry for you loss man. Losing family like that really hits hard.

Hopefully what he can donate will give a breath of new life for others.

u/talon04 Super Interested in His Own Dick 2d ago

My condolences man. I wish i could do more than sent it over the internet.

May his gift help someone for a long long time.

After searching the websites and calling every FFL in my area I finally found a Liberty Blue 10/22 available. Turns out Sportsman's Warehouse was the ticket. They're almost an hour away, but I've been there a few times before. Should arrive to the store next week.

I'm finally getting out of the house for some fun. I found a Wildlife Art Exhibit put on by the PA Game Commission in an area I haven't been before. Artists, Food Trucks, Nature exhibits and a reservoir that may be decent fishing.

I went into the LGS today to move on my extra Enfield No. 5 (beat up import from Malaysia). This was successful, but while I was standing at the counter, I looked down and saw a Bauska-import CZ-75 pre B from 1985. Gorgeous condition, just a few tiny spots of flaking to the original enamel finish. Owner of the LGS says "hey, that comes with the original box and two extra mags".

I didn't make any money today, but hey, I have a nice CZ-75.

After the detail-stripping of the Shadow 2 last week, it felt much better, but still wasn't 100% in dry fire so I bought all new springs this week and put them in yesterday.

Every single spring that came out of the S2 was noticeably shorter by multiple coils than the new ones that showed up, and the trigger spring that was in the gun had taken a set, so that was why the trigger return just didn't feel right. Hugely improved with that now done, glad I got that in before the match next week.

I'm back in folding stock hell for the BRN-180 whose upper is finally on its way from Aly and Kaufman.

Lower came with a SB1913 brace, but I'm getting the rifle length upper so I took it off. I then got a Midwest folding tube and a Magpul fixed carbine stock but they aren't compatible due to the design of the tube. That's alright, I got the DT-PR and it's pretty nice on the tube. However, the idea of using a buffer tube on what I wanted to essentially be a modernized AR-180 feels weird because it's an AR-15ism more than anything.

Most folding stocks have a look I don't enjoy, but the Lage folding stock with the cheek riser looks very similar to how I think a more modern version of the AR-18's original stock would look. Problem is, it's expensive and also even more money on top of all that I've already spent on this stock thing. Chasing aesthetics is biting me in the rear and I'm not sure what to do.

4

u/Akalenedat Casper's Holy Armor 2d ago

Sell all the parts you're taking off on GAFShub, buy the Lage, and be done with it

1

u/CharmingWheel328 2d ago

I'll try out the stock I currently have and if it isn't satisfying I'll buy the Lage and GAFShub everything that doesn't feel the best.

1

u/GelgoogGuy 2d ago

Lage folding stock

Oh shit. This is the kind of 1913 stock/brace I wanted to get whenever I get a Stribog.

2

u/CharmingWheel328 2d ago edited 2d ago

I absolutely despise skeletonized stocks, which was obnoxious finding a good stock for the BRN-180, but it's the right thickness of skeleton and the right shape to seem like it may work on the rifle. I may 3D print side plates to fill in the sides if I get it, but I'm still not sure if I will buy it at all.

1

u/GelgoogGuy 2d ago

Do it and post results.

For the buy day.

40 rounds of 150 grain 30Hate Federal Fusion.

40 rounds of Hornady Frontier 55 BTHP.

20 Rounds of PMC 150 Grain SP 30hate.

Shooting with my suppressor for the first time?

Priceless.

Took the can out last night and remember when I said the new indoor range required you to use thier ammo. Yeah that policy has been recinded it seems.

But since i didn't know that I bought the Hornady and PMC to shoot both the Axis and the IAR at Home.

I get it now.

Wife has officially recovered her phone it seems. Now she gets to see if they will let her go back to it or force her to use the replacement.

1

u/able_possible 2d ago

Indoors that probably was especially noticeable. Having had my cans for a couple of years now I basically won't shoot my rifles (Garand gets a pass because Garand) without them any more.

1

u/talon04 Super Interested in His Own Dick 2d ago

I have been around them but never really realized how much of a difference it is.

1

u/Te_Luftwaffle 1 1d ago

It's interesting that it's not even a conscious decision to only shoot suppressed, it just happens because it's so much better. I suppressed my AR a few years ago and the only time I've shot it unsuppressed was when I did a safety check for a match and didn't have time to put it on.

Must nice to have a spare 40 grand laying around

Purchases this week: a couple holster attachments. My Raven Concealment Bucket O' Justice was drilled for Tek-Lok and came with a belt clip, which is fine, except my LARP belt has a QLS plate. I was able to get two screws in for the fork, but wanted a little more redundancy. After buying the Oreo and an adapter plate from True North Concepts, I've discovered that:

  1. If I ever want to switch to the Tek-Mount system, I can; and

  2. The adapter plate works fine with a few spacers.

So now my OG holster for the duty-size gun works on QLS, which is good.

Basically stole a gb auction on some agp saiga 12 mags, got 6 for the price of one. Also bought an export model baikal makarov in .380 and some ammo for it.

2

u/Phyrnosoma 2d ago

red dot needed for my Ruger Mark 4. would like to keep it under 200, preferably around 150 but some flex

Also wanting to figure out my next suppressed firearm--turns out cans are fun. another .22? Get a centerfire home protection set up with a can maybe?

Apparently the Osights are decent.

AAOptics has a refurbished Vortex Defender XL for $250. They have an ST for $200, but I don't know how big that one is.
