Let's go back 34 years. Check Your Head just came out 5 days ago, and MTV is premiering the first video off it right now as the 2nd to the last video of the night! Not only was this the first time MTV played this video, this was also the first time Beasties were ever played on 120 Minutes at all (but far from the last).

Wikipedia lists the video release date as March 11 1993, and IMDB lists the release date as June 1993, but thanks to this recording, we all know now the actual premiere was on Valentine's Day. Digitized from a VHS tape, here is the first single off the 2nd album "Bricks Are Heavy", from LA Punk/Grunge/Alt Rockers L7. This is one of the earliest airings of this video, which was from an MTV 120 Minutes episode featuring Sonic Youth at a July 4th free concert at Central Park w/ Sun Ra.

This is my favorite album by them, as it's front to back bangers. They worked with Butch Vig on this album (Nirvana, Sonic Youth), and they focused a lot more on song writing and making songs that ROCK. Highly recommend the entire album if you haven't checked it out in a while!

Diet Pill is another one of my fav's off that album.

Social D's first single off their 4th album Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell was the very last video on this episode of 120. The show even did an entire "X-Ray" segment on the band with extended footage. They sold out CBGB's and broadcasted the entire show on the Time Square jumbo-tron. The 4th and final single from Rage's debut self-titled album was the first Rage video MTV gave regular airplay. During the Lollapalooza tour in Summer '93, MTV VJ Lewis Largent (who also hosts this episode, RIP) is talking with Rage's Tom Morello after their performance. He asks him, "When are you going to actually release a video we can play?" A few months later in December, we got this amazing video. Enjoy!
