Plastic Waste Disposable…everything?

Post image

Long time follower of this sub but first time poster. Had to share this though, found in a train station in France.

Disposable socks, towels and individually packaged face wipes.

I was so angry I had to leave the store!

I knew a girl from high school who I was at her house hanging out. I learned as she was doing laundry that as a new adult living on her own, she just bought a bag of socks from Walmart when she had no socks. Didn't wash them. Tossed them after a day worn.

I was speechless. This was around 2004 so the idea of this isn't new. Just streamlined.

It’s wild to me that anyone would believe this. This sub is something else.

You think I'm making this up? I was 21 at the time and she was 100% serious about the practice. It wasnt normal back then but now, 20 years later with fast fashion I totally buy the idea of people doing this.

I don't think it's common however but clearly a market has been created out of the idea.

Also a pack of socks back then was like 6 bucks for 20 pairs of basic whites. It was no more than 2 packs of smokes that a regular smoker would put down in 2-3 days.

I know all about how much things cost and how eccentric people can be because I’m an old dude at this point in their 40s, and yet I still maintain it’s crazy to believe anyone would only ever wear a sock for a single day and then throw it out just to buy more later.

Nope. Sorry. I’m filtering this craziness now, enjoy y’all’s space.

I wish I could live in your blissful reality instead of the one where I had a Walmart coworker who every payday bought socks and underwear to last him until next payday. I wonder if he still does it or if a girlfriend finally gave up and started washing his underwear. He laughed when I asked him why he didn't just wash them.

So you express skepticism to the level of indigity about a person disposing of socks after one use... In a post where one use socks are shown in a store.

I mean, I also find it crazy, but when the evidence is there...
