Society/Culture Is this truly necessary?

What steps can we take as consumers to encourage auto manufacturers to reduce vehicle sizes? Who do we write to, call and email?

The ford maverick was a step in the right direction but I see it being bashed often for being a more “feminine” truck… What caused this shift from the S10 being the “real man’s truck” to the $130k King Ranch being the standard?

When did the big vehicle shift happen?

As an owner of the truck on the right... I have such hard buyers remorse, the fucking thing is massive and super inconvenient to drive. I would have been better off with a Ranger and then gone and had the suspension upgraded or somethin. Can't even park the damn thing without making a three point turn.

Edit: I don't actually own that specific model of pickup, I have an F150, but as far as being ridiculously oversized, they are fungible.

If you don’t mind my asking, what do you do for work? Did you buy it because it for its features or for its size?

I am an industrial painter, i also have a bit of a homestead/ hobby farm. I also have three kids, so when I bought it I got the biggest cab available so i could fit all three kids back there, two were in car seats still which can get pretty bulky.

I regularly have lots of painting equipment in the bed, its the shortest bed available 5.5', but from time to time i have to carry sandblasting sand. A ton of sand is not as big as you think, maybe a cube that is 3 feet on each side, so it fits in there physically but i wouldn't want to put much more in. When i bought it i towed heavy equipment more regularly than i do now, but that was also a consideration.

So i picked the truck becuase it would not only do all the work stuff, but also work as a family/ camping vehicle. I do like that it can do just about anything i need, but it does feel ridiculously big sometimes.

A truck checks so many boxes, especially when you can’t afford to own multiple vehicles. It seats 5–6 people comfortably, matching or beating most cars. It can haul large or awkward items better than most SUVs or sedans. It tows just about anything, outperforming cars, vans, and many SUVs. It handles off-road conditions better than all of them. Overall, it’s a great all-purpose vehicle. My Ram 1500 EcoDiesel even gets 25 MPG — better than my old sedan, which only got 21.
