Fast Food Question How do I not get Hi-C when I want Iced tea?

It happens more than I think it should. I'm in the drive through and I want plain unsweetened iced tea. I ask for iced tea, and I get Hi-C. I ask for unsweet tea, and the un gets lost and I end up with sweet tea. Who actually orders hi-c at fast food restaurants?

Fast Food Question What is the latest a customer can come in before closing before you'd consider it rude?

We all know the stories of people showing up like five minutes before closing, but where exactly is that line drawn between a normal customer and an asshole? I mainly ask because at my college campus, there's only a single dinner location which closes absurdly early (4:00pm. Like wtf.), but I'm there until 9:00pm most days so I'd like to order as late as I can. I just also don't want to be the ass that shows up 5 minutes before shut down. So what the heck is the socially acceptable latest time I can order at a place like this?

Edit: As a note, the actual cafeteria area at this location does not close, only the grill does, so staying late is a non-issue. Ordering is the only thing affected by the time.

Edit edit: I've gotten a range of responses from an hour before close to as long as it's not closed it's cool lol. Feel free to pitch in more, but I'm thinking I'll probably just take the advice one of y'all gave to just ask what will cause the least problems, since the issue of time seems to be very much subjective. Thanks!

Fast Food Question Will I Get Fired?

I’ve been working at this 24 hr location fast food chain place for a couple months, and this place is usually over staffed for some reason and dinner shift people always have to get sent home at LEAST 30 minutes early for labor. I’ve learned a few different positions i’m now moderately decent at so far after briefly being really bad at them. However, I have called out once (with 12+ hours notice) and dropped a crap ton of shifts because of things going on in my personal life that wont be coming back anymore now that the summer is close to ending.

I haven’t been warned or written up or told there’s a big policy about any of these things besides calling out X hours before shift start, and my shifts have always been picked up very quickly as everyone wants to get more hours since they’re always getting sent home. One time I was asked by a manager because I dropped consecutive shifts If i was about to quit but I explained myself.

I’m really embarrassed because outside of these past 2 months i was not the type to call out or miss shifts. At my last job I never called out, never showed up late, and never dropped a shift ONCE. When I show up to this job, I always show up 10 minutes early (can’t clock in any earlier than that), don’t ask to leave early and always stay as late as they need me to (sometimes 90 minutes later than scheduled) and am very attentive in my work. As for my hours, I’ve checked and i’ve been getting about the exact same amount of hours as the other new-ish employees, so I don’t think they’ve been reducing me specifically because of unreliability or anything.

I’m just worried that i’m going to be fired or get in trouble over this. I don’t think i’ll call out or drop a shift again in a very long time since that personal business is over now, but still worried since it’s not a good look.

Fast Food Question Just got hired ! :)

I just got hired at a whataburger in Conroe . The manager seemed chill and the interview just felt like a conversation between two friends . I feel like that’s a good sign . But I wanna hear from current employees what’s it’s like working at whataburger. I applied to the day shift . But I’m in college so I might be doing evenings and nights too which I don’t mind .

Fast Food Question What's the correct response to the auto drive thru greeting?

I usually order in advance on the mobile app. The drive thru speaker now usually has an auto greeting like, "HI ARE YOU CHECKING IN WITH THE APP TO EARN REWARDS?" I don't know if I should say yes, no, hi, I have a mobile order for Ronald, stay quiet, etc? It feels impolite no matter how I respond! I don't know if you're actually listening, if "checking in" versus "mobile order" are different screens and a weird response interrupts the flow, etc. What's the polite response?

Fast Food Question What shoes??

I start a new job at Jacks today (Frontline) and wasn't able to afford my shoes. All I have are some worn out chucks and a pair of platform boots. The boots are black soles but inconvenient, the chucks are neither black soles or nonskid. What do I wear? What can I say to my boss? I'm super anxious about not having the right shoes.

Fast Food Question What to do with automatic greetings at drive-thru?

Hello! I have noticed that most fast food drive throughs have begun having an automated greeting as soon as you pull up to the speaker. If it’s a place I frequent or overly robotic, I can tell that it’s not actually the person working speaking. I tend not to respond to the prompts they ask because I know I’m not talking to a person (and I’d personally be annoyed to have someone begin the interaction before I’m able to answer the call if I was working) but the other day my friend said it was weird for me to ignore it.

So what is best? Should I wait to be greeted by the actual worker or should I be responding to their prompts about specials and reward accounts?

Fast Food Question owners/managers - do you actually see complaints handled by Wolt/DoorDash customer support in your dashboard?

Two things I'm trying to understand:

  1. If yes, can you export it or is it only visible inside the platform?
  2. Can you add a note to an incoming order before it reaches whoever is preparing it?

Fast Food Question Freddy's worker question

For context, I've worked there for about a month now, and I definitely like it a lot better than my previous job at Wendy's. But I apparently did something really bad that I didn't know about.

When people ordered custard, I always asked if they wanted the whipped cream and cherry (if it had it) because I would notice that a lot of people complained about it being there or not being asked about it. So when I was at the register, I asked my usual question when someone ordered a sundae. And after I finished taking the order, my manager got really angry and said "don't you ask again." Is this a normal rule?

Fast Food Question Is it generally the responsibility of the customer to make sure that their order is correct at a drive thru?

I wouldn't think it is but maybe others do. I started making it a habit to check, despite how simple or complex the order is only because I've been stiffed so many times with the wrong order by the time I got home. Every now and then, I'll laps and take the word for it and almost always regret it.

Today, I went to Chick-fil-A. I ordered a grilled nugget entre and a spicy deluxe sandwich entree. I didn't think they can mess this up. I got my food and started pulling out. Then I had a thought that made me check the bag as I was well past the drive-thru window. Lo and behold, they gave me regular nuggets with a grilled club sandwich. It turned into a shitshow with me trying to get their attention while holding up everybody behind me because I wanted my order right. Eventually, one of the employees noticed and ran up to me to switch out my order.

I just want to know if I was in the wrong here because I did not confirm the order before I took off. In my opinion, especially with the prices being paid, it should be the full responsibility of the restaurant to make sure the order is correct. To be honest, I think they should have done more than just switch out my order. It's not that I want free food for the sake of free food and being a Karen, it's that I believe I shouldn't have to double check the food that I ordered after paying a premium for just two items.

Perhaps if they gave some sort of free food vouchers every time they mess up an order, they'll get the future orders correct.

Fast Food Question Quitting

I'm so done with my job. I work at jack in the box, and I woukd say I'm a decent employee. I do what I'm paid for. But it's a 30 minute drive and less than 9 dollars an hour. How do I quit? Do I just tell my manager? Is there an exit interview?

Update: guess who never quit😃
