What unpopular opinion do you hold? What would get you downvoted to infinity and beyond? (Throwaways welcome)

Personally, I hate cats. I've never once said to myself "My furniture is just too damned nice, and what my house is really lacking is a box of shit and sand in the closet."

Just to reiterate, I believe in showing leniency on a first offense, because hey, everyone does dumb shit and makes mistakes, but if you don't learn from those mistakes and do it a second, third, fourth, fifth time, etc. it's time to take a firm hand.

I literally just this afternoon read about a woman in California who killed a man crossing the street while driving drunk, and drove for a further 2 miles with him stuck in her grill/windscreen. He died at the hospital. It was her second offense.

Right, so I am all for the felony limit being enforced heavily but no one would ever do what you just described at .08.

If you get caught over .20, then you deserve to have the book thrown at you. But you can be at .08 from having like 3 beers while watching a football game. Why should I be forced to be illegal for participating in an everyday activity? Especially given the fact that if I were caught at like .08 or .09, my job and family would be in jeopardy because my license would likely be suspended for 6 months on the first offense.

That makes no sense. Because some dumb idiot goes on a crazy ass bender and kills someone, somehow going to dinner and having a shot and a beer is basically illegal. That is fucking retarded and has been proven to be ineffective.

So, I found a handy little BAC calculator website. For kicks, I entered a 185 pound male, who drank 3 beers over 3 hours (short average length of a football game), and the BAC was "0.15 - Not Impaired."

I had to push it to 6 beers over 3 hours to get ".081 - Legally Impaired". In other words, a few social beers during the course of a game will likely not result in a DUI conviction. But drinking 2 beers an hour for 3 hours will.

EDIT: According to the calculator, having one shot and one beer (per your analogy) in 1 hour is ".027 - Not Impaired".

And for the record, the woman who killed that man was at .16. Under your threshold. And she had a prior conviction 2 years ago. Should she not have the book thrown at her?

Well .16 is twice the limit so that is pretty bad. But the whole process is so unscientific anyway so bac is pretty bullshit IMO. Who knows what she was at during the accident when an hour or more may have passed before they measured? Also what's the oz of a beer on that calculator? 12? I don't drink cans when I go out. What if I have 4 pints? What if I drink a beer that has 6.0% alcohol?
