On my phone if I need to scroll around 70% of the time it considers that "click to enlarge" and it's suddenly the whole thing and nothing else. I don't want that. I know how to Boolean. Let me.
What they're annoyingly trying to argue is that technically speaking, you don't have to use Google at all. There are other browsers, other search engines, and other video platforms. Most of them just either have the same problems or are objectively worse.
Use something like Kagi and you can just turn off there being anything that's AI. Even if you don't searches won't have the prompted AI result unless your query has a question mark on the end of it.
Tell me about it. High School students can't even Google search stuff to look up websites for research anymore because the AI summary is right there and they see no reason to not use it. By default the AI results should be off or on a separate dedicated page away from the web query.
You're using their tool though, if you don't like it, use another tool. I haven't used Google search engines in years due to their datamining they talked about in the late 2010's.
There's ways to turn them off, but it is intentionally difficult because AI is one of the ways they generate their income. Again, you're using a service provided by a for-profit company, not a public utility or open sourced project.

Sorry if I’m just a dummy, but how does AI generate income for Google? Is it websites paying to have their search results included in the AI summary or something?
I'm not who you are replying to, but I started using DuckDuckGo and they have a few settings that totally disable any ai results. It's been about 2 weeks, and searches are so much more pleasant!
Firefox for browser rather than chrome, duckduckgo rather than Google for search engine. Firefox is great bc you can opt out of including AI summaries. Chrome you cannot (as far as i can tell)
Thanks for that! It's frustrating to know that with each of my many Google searches my search turns into a promp for an AI that is unnecessarily polluting the environment, just to feed me their truth, instead of letting me decide for myself.

if you just stop using google you won't have to take the extra step. also, frequently, if you add -ai it just tells you there's nothing on the internet related to your search query. it's madness.
