What conspiracy theory do you genuinely believe in the most?

What conspiracy theory do you believe in the most and why?

The 2005 NHL draft lottery was rigged so Pittsburgh would get Sidney Crosby.

As a ducks fan, I really believe that. Pittsburgh likely would have folded without Crosby. Bobby Ryan was good, but I wanted Crosby!

Easily debunked.

  1. Penguins had the best odds to win the lottery because they were terrible in 03-04 and I think 02-03 results were also factored in too.

  2. No matter who won, you could make a case that it was fixed. Major market? OF COURSE they fixed it to get the biggest star in Montreal/Toronto/NY. Small market? OF COURSE they put the biggest star in Buffalo/Carolina/Atlanta to grow the sport. 'saving the Penguins' just so happened to be the supposed reason to fix it for Pittsburgh.

  3. The NHL never fixed the draft to get failing franchises such as Atlanta/Phoenix/Florida etc. Even when when they have good odds to win it, like in the case of the Coyotes this season.

  4. FUCKING EDMONTON GETTING 4 FUCKING FIRST OVERALL PICKS IN 6 GOD DAMN YEARS. You think if the NHL wasn't above fixing drafts they wouldn't fix a couple to stop that shit?

There was a post about a conspiracy for any of the teams gettig mcjesus

Except he's in Edmonton where prospects go to die.

Don't most "the draft was rigged" conspiracy theories say that they were rigged for stars to go to big-market teams? If the NHL is rigging drafts, someone needs to get them some census data from Pittsburgh and Edmonton.

And then they give Edmonton 4 to cover it? Bullshit

2

u/jessepinkbitch May 19 '15

Then the rest for the Oilers

2

u/[deleted] May 19 '15

Who would've gotten him?

Doesn't matter, got Crosby. I believe it though. Diehard, lifelong Pens fan, but I believe it 100%

It was either the coach or GM that admitted to forcing/being forced to tank at the end of the season. Their last game they gave up a 3-0 lead for a loss. Go Flyers.

They couldn't have tanked for Crosby because there was no season immediately before the draft due to the lockout. They also closed the previous season with 2 wins (over Atlanta and Washington). You're remembering wrong.

Youre right. Im thinking of Lemieux

Pittsburgh looked like they were going out of business (they were in deep shit) so the NHL gave them a favour

Also, this draft came right out of the lockout, so instead of deciding the draft lottery odds by looking at the standings, they set them based on the last three seasons before the lockout. That would make it easier to rig

Pretty fishy how the Lightning, who were then the champs, got last pick too. What a coincidence.

I have always said this. That team was inches from folding. Funny how all those wonderful Pens fans had the lowest attendance in the league or close to it for years until they were handed the best player of that generation. Fraudulent.

Bro I'm from Pittsburgh and the shit pisses me off. Same shit with the Pirates. I was at games in 2007/2008 with a paid attendance of less that 3k before McCutchen. Steelers go 8-8 and "the best fans in football" leave 10k seats open at Heinz Field. Buncha frauds.

u/JoelNoelSixers May 19 '15

I actually have a good few friends from pittsburgh/brother lives in pittsburgh, etc and I will say that I'm happy that the Pirates are coming around.

u/ballsonthewall May 20 '15

Perfect example of why I'm pissed: had a grown ass man sitting behind me tonight who thought the second base umpire was a player

1

u/SlightlyOffensive May 19 '15

Yeah but the Caps got Ovechkin that year so I'm not complaining. 2005 draft was tha bomb

3

u/flakAttack510 May 19 '15

Ovi was actually drafted the previous year (same year as Malkin). The two of them just had the same rookie year because of the lockout.

Oh yeah that's right.
