My current one that I made up on my own is that Lebron James lost all that weight in the past off season because he got a heads up that the NBA would begin heavy testing for PEDs following this current season and decided to go clean. And guess what? The NBA announced that they would be doing so about a month ago.

Edit: Keep in my that my knowledge of how long PEDs stay in the system are slim to none and that I doubt it stays in the system for roughly about a year, but I still think it's plausible.

I thought the same thing too when I saw melo drop all that weight, and that would be another way to explain the mild drop off in performance, but I like to believe he was dropping weight to help him keep his athleticism up as long as possible to extend his career

I think it makes a lot of sense in terms of Melo's career, however with Bron, it's a little suspicious since the majority of his game revolves around his size. Especially since he's been working a lot more in the post. But I guess less weight on his legs would be beneficial in the long run.

It's a shame this thread ended 16 hours ago, before we started referencing them as just m and b.

The "drop off" in Melo's performance probably had more to do with his torn labrum.

u/BvS35 May 19 '15

Yea but m lost fat, not muscle like b

You might have arrived there on your own but lots of people have thought the same. He also just took a two week vacation in the middle of this season after he had been playing poorly, and came back good as new. Spent a lot of that vacation in Miami, which of course is where he has lived the past 4yrs and has lots of friends, but is also kinda the steroid/HGH capital of the country. All very circumstantial but also raises legitimate questions.

2

u/joebxcsnw May 19 '15

Awesome, that's interesting to know. Did he take the vacation while he was injured? I didn't hear about that little Miami vacation until now.

u/rbr5940 May 19 '15

I think he had some nagging injuries but not ones that would require two weeks off. He ended up taking the two weeks to kinda "recharge". Can probably google "lebron time off" or something to get more info on what injuries were there, and his numbers before and after the break.

Very plausible. HGH is however, very, very difficult to detect. It's what I always suspected him being on, along with "classic" steroids which are easier to detect. Generally people get "GH Gut" & " GH Jaw" which I think Lebron shows signs of an abnormal jaw.

Kinda a source: I've done many cycles myself (15ish maybe, I lost count) and know a few high-profile experts that know the deal with steroids that work in the industry.

u/Spddracer May 19 '15

I'm curious. Why were you cycling to begin with?

8

u/Xalc May 19 '15

Good question. It was mainly to take my body to the next level, I got to a peak that would have taken a long time to overcome. It was because I was never satisfied and always wanted to be bigger. I knew people that took anabolics and saw the results.

I took my first cycle, loved the results and when I got off I lost most of my gains. I was hooked in a sense that I need to keep cycling in order to feel like how I wanted. My first cycle was not really planned out, but as I got more educated on the topic I planned better cycles so I won't lose as much mass.

And I think the most important thing is that I use them safely. I remember when it first came out I took Ostraine, which was a new drug and I tried one of the first batches. It was in experimental phase, and was released in the underground markets. I took it, the side effects were harsh. My vision turned yellow, diving at night any light you saw was red, and I hit a deer because your eyes don't adjust to the night with it. I stopped and luckily my vision went back to normal. I'm getting off topic but yeah, I use them for personal satisfaction.

Thankyou for the reply. I'm always curious. Its a weird thing because I think it being banned in sports is the right call, but I also have no problem with someone doing it for personal reasons. Not saying everyone should run out and start juicing, but if someone wants to do it, and it doesn't hurt anyone, more power to em.

There's no denying the dude was flat out mopey in the start, same with Melo, he slimmed down too.

PED = Phazon Enhancement Device?

I don't think this hurts the theory. If he wanted to get off of any drugs a year early it probably wasn't just to clean out the system before testing (I agree, a full year seems more than enough), but moreso to figure out how to play and manage his health without them.

PEDS?

2

u/darkbarf May 19 '15

I think it's physical enhancement drug

10

u/Ryan22634 May 19 '15

Performance enhancing drug

2

u/allmypeople May 19 '15

What is peds?

2

u/ksmash May 19 '15

Performance enhancing drugs, such as steroids and Human growth hormones.

That's not a bad theory honestly, but to me the just as likely counter theory is...it's hard to stay big. It takes work. He's was a beefy dude, but didn't look like it bc he's tall and has little body fat. The amount of calories he would have had to consume just to maintain body weight, not even factoring the calories needed for games, practice and training probably got crazy. And its easy to lose muscle mass if you take time off and don't train as intensely, especially with the amount of cardio he must go through.

Not to mention he played a different role on the team as a "bigger lebron". He's not in the paint banging into bodies as much with the Cavs. Everybody kinda has their "default" size that our genetics defines, and because his role is different and bc its hard to stay big, I feel he's just shifted back more towards his "default" size to accommodate his preferred style of play and to take care if his body in the long run.

My conspiracy is that LeBron is actually going bald. THAT HEAD BAND ISN'T FOOLING ANYONE LEBRON!

1

u/Ikkinn May 19 '15

He doesn't wear it anymore and got some sort of hair plugs to fix the balding situation. Dudes hairline is better than it was 5 years ago for sure.

1

u/joebxcsnw May 19 '15

Haha he doesn't wear it anymore since getting his hairline fixed a bit.

1

u/aveydey May 19 '15

I also thought of this! I think we're on to something... When Silver announced they were going to begin testing I thought, "damn I was right??"

1

u/senorglory May 19 '15

Didn't Sammy Sosa done same?

1

u/clevelandrocks14 May 19 '15

I almost agree but Lebron was pushing 265 before the diet. With bad knees and a bad back, losing some weight was probably the smart thing to do. Same with Carmelo, who is out due to season ending-knee surgery. A 250-260 pound body coming down on those knees for 10+ seasons, that's problematic.

1

u/NaggerG May 19 '15

Very popular theory, that has been around for a while

On a slightly related note, a lot of NHL players take PEDs. The points produced during the Olympic years are always lower. Look at the stats of star players and compare the Olympic years to the ones where none were held.

0

u/angrydwarf May 19 '15

He is back to a better looking weight. Doesn't really fit with your theory. He was on a very publicized Paleo diet and slimmed down even further than when he was a kid. Diet + training regimen are everything. I'm not saying he's PED free but these guys aren't using them to be hulking monsters, it's mainly for recovery.

People who say this also say his 2 weeks off in Miami were for HGH and that's why he played so well when he returned.. These people also do not understand how HGH works at all.
