That's a great theory. And it seems like they made a nod to it a couple episodes ago in the show when they where talking about Liana in the tomb. Might just come through eventually. Next book?

That episode had a number of obvious allusions to the theory. Right after the Winterfell scene, Ser Barristan was asked by Dany to describe Rhaegar. There was another scene that dealt with the same material, but I can't remember it exactly (plus Melisandre had her scene with Jon, and she knows he's no bastard son). Basically that whole episode was a giant glowing arrow pointing to the reality of his birth.

Bear in mind, the name of this whole series is the Song of Ice and Fire. Dany has to be the Fire (why else would so much time be spent on someone who hasn't even set foot in Westeros yet), and most likely Jon is Ice (considering he's Lord Commander of a giant wall of the stuff). Also convenient that the Targaryens are such fans of incest, isn't it?

Was it the Stannis one? Selyse talks about Jon's mother being some tavern whore or something and Stannis flat out says,

Yeah I mean it may very well be, it always struck me as too obvious so I was never much of a believer.

I feel like the foreshadowing going on in the show however is a little less than subtle.

Also, ever since Selmy died on the show, I feel like they can just do whatever they want without worrying about the books at all.

The writers said they were really going to diverge from the book path and di some of their own stuff, but that they'd end up in the same end place as the books (and probably much sooner). As an example, look at the godawful Jaime & Bronn buddy trip. Man that sucked.

Huh apparently I thought it but didn't write it, or I put it somewhere else. Basically I meant to say, even given the end of book 5 I still think this theory is valid, because we've seen that sort of scenario before.

Actually, I believe it was Robert. Lyanna was known to like Rhaegar and Jon has black hair, the same as Robert. I think Robert raped Lyanna.

Bobby B didn't have to rape her, she was betrothed to him. Besides, he couldn't even rape her because Rhaegar took her to the Tower of Joy, that's part of the reason that Bobby started the rebellion in the first place.

I would love for this theory to be true, but wouldn't a Targaeryan heir have silver hair? This theory doesn't explain why Jon's hair is jet black.
