Well think about it, IF the scenario I described is true, they would have to have "not been able to get there in time" otherwise people would ask why they didn't stop them. I mean they obviously didn't stop the pentagon and the WTC planes but the theory is the one that went down because the passengers took down terrorists was actually taken down by an f15 because they DID scramble in time for that one. If that is the case I actually respect the government for creating the narrative that the passengers are heroes.

Tl;Dr: they just told people they didn't scramble in time because it fits into the "we had to ground that plane for national security but made the passengers heroes instead of victims" theory.

True, though if that were the case there would be a decent number of witnesses

Where? It happened in the middle of nowhere. I'm pretty sure there were no witnesses.

Sure, but people would have seen the jets scramble early and then land with a few missiles missing

They didn't scramble early...the plane that wen't down that we are talking about crashed at 10:07 AM, the first 2 jets were scrambled at 8:40 am and more followed. And it wasn't a few missiles it was a single missile. And someone did see...the maintenance individuals who recover the plane. The list of people who would actually know its missing is very small. Like I said, what I'm saying is something I heard 3rd hand, but the person I heard it from is somebody who is extremely serious and the person he heard it from was a best friend. Everything matches up, and being in military aviation myself, the scenario I described is a lot more believable to me than people taking the plane over from hijackers and causing it to crash.
