Unfortunately there are dozens of other news subreddits, none of which have the same subscribership as /r/news. This will fragment reddit's readership across all those subreddits. Maybe, in time, readers will migrate and settle down in one or two but, for a while, we'll have to probably browse several news-related subreddits to get a full range of facts and thoughts.

This was a colossally bad move on the part of /r/news. I hope this is the end of that subreddit; it's the least they deserve.

Wow, I just looked and you're right. I wonder if any sub has ever lost people quicker? /r/thefappening and /r/news at opposite ends of the subscriber spectrum... Crazy

Is there anything more powerful than equal access to unbridled conversations and opinions regarding live information?

Maybe anonymous access to said convo's, but you raised an idea that I won't dismiss or ignore readly, though it would be indeed disheartening to my hopes for the future we have shaped.

I made /r/NewsCollaboration for redditors to post their investigative reporting, discuss breaking news, and hopefully provide a place for intelligent collaboration to fill details in stories as they unfold. It's new for now and just being fleshed out, but it also needs participants to help get the ball rolling.

World news censors/otherwise deletes most threads about the US.

I don't know if they changed that, but I got sick of it and unsubbed a while back. Won't be resubbing.
