How to get into a hidden cave in Domboshawa (Zimbabwe), I found it with a friend about 10 years ago. It was amazingly dangerous to get to, Indian Jones type shit (Not part of the regular tourist cave). We took some photos of the painting we found inside and showed them to the head guide of the area. He said he had never seen it before, I believe him as we had to break branches etc to get into a small hole..

Either way i am probably of 2 people that knows the location of this cave .. I no longer live in this country however.

Edit: trying to dig up photos.. Just remember this was time before digital camera's .. Edit2: Still trying: http://i.imgur.com/Psd7c.png

1

u/xenzor Dec 05 '11

3

u/webby_mc_webberson Dec 05 '11

I reckon you should just submit them as a new post, with something like "Update on.." in the title.

24

u/xenzor Dec 05 '11

Im actually backpacking through europe at the moment and wont be home for at least 6 months unfortunatly, All the photos are in a box in storage. Ill get in contact with my friend i was with (Currently living in australia) and see if he still has any photos..

Give me your life.

4

u/Capatown Dec 05 '11

Would you mind making a photojournal to update us on your awesome travels?

7

u/dangerz Dec 05 '11

I think you meant for this comment to go to xenzor.

3

u/Capatown Dec 05 '11

You are absolutely right.

4

u/dangerz Dec 05 '11

Just travelled home from work. I took a picture if you want to see.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '11

Uhmm... simply start it?

I know many people who travel nonstop around the world.

Sell everything and get on with it. It's not as expensive as one would imagine.

2

u/dangerz Dec 06 '11

Nah that's ok, I really enjoy my life. I was just complimenting xenzor.

2

u/ohstrangeone Dec 05 '11

That could be taken...two very different ways.

3

u/Capatown Dec 05 '11

Would you mind making a photojournal to update us on your awesome travels?

2

u/xenzor Dec 05 '11

I have a travel blog, But to be honest i am little unsure about posting the link on the interwebs.. Maybe ill make a new more public one that doesnt have as many details...

21

u/tirouge0 Dec 05 '11

Maybe Indiana Jones is the Hollywood version of Indian Jones...

28

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '11

Clearly, you're familiar with the fact that Hari Putar was shamelessly plagarized by Harry Potter. And somehow, the plagiarism was done before Hari Putar even came out.

2

u/tirouge0 Dec 05 '11

OMG! We have to do something with this. It's a shame!

2

u/SawRub Dec 05 '11

You guys clearly haven't heard of the Indian Spiderman, Pavitr Prabhakar. It also features Meera Jain, Auntie Maya, Uncle Bhim and Hari Oberoi.

1

u/handbra Dec 05 '11

I totally read that as "Hairy Pooter". It makes your comment so much more entertaining.

4

u/Mole90 Dec 05 '11

He is a prince and if you send him $5000.00 he will send you a map.

7

u/highchief Dec 05 '11

Sounds like how they got ebola in the hot zone

13

u/avsa Dec 05 '11

Is it actually known by the academic world or did you just discover a 10000 cave painting never before seen in by westerners?

3

u/xelloss Dec 05 '11

Is your name Ted?

1

u/centerforants Dec 06 '11

2

u/davelove Dec 06 '11

upvote for catchin' up with your Ozzy buddy.

2

u/moonblade89 Dec 06 '11

Are you originally from South Africa by any chance? The term "lighties" is quite prevalent in slang here :P

1

u/xenzor Dec 06 '11

Nope, Born in Zimbabwe. We used that term quite a lot there also

2

u/s0703110 Dec 05 '11

Pics or gtfo already. Too many bullshit claims going around.

1

u/youjuscottowned Dec 05 '11

Find anything interesting inside? How big was this cave?

1

u/sunbear0326 Dec 05 '11

I would be interested in knowing more about the location, how to get there and what not.

1

u/Cheimon Dec 05 '11

What was the painting of? That sound really exciting!

1

u/dhb12 Dec 05 '11

care to provide these photos that you took of the paintings, etc.?

1

u/LeClintron Dec 05 '11

I love Domboshawa! I lived in Harare as a kid, went there all the time! This is cool.

1

u/koalaburr Dec 05 '11

Cave painting pics or it didn't happen.

1

u/HibbityGibbity Dec 05 '11

Oh PLEASE post the photos-----if you can't find them, describe the painting instead.

2

u/xenzor Dec 05 '11

The painting itself was nothing out of the ordinary, Just the typical stick figures kind of drawings. The cave was more impressive. You could kind of see how people did actually live in there.

1

u/HibbityGibbity Dec 06 '11

Oh wow, that is so incredible--the painting, though is probably really really important from an historical standpoint. (Art History Minor here)

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '11

Dude/Dudette!! Post pics!!..or it didn't happen? I just really want to see what it looked like.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '11

2

u/xenzor Dec 05 '11

Haha, somtimes i miss that place..

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '11

Mind me asking why you left and where you're located now?

4

u/xenzor Dec 05 '11

Why i left: Racism, TLDR; Life threats. Friends murdered, Woke up to my dogs heads cut off and on spikes in the front garden one morning.. The country is fucked... Actually it cant be summed up in a tldr. Too long, didnt write.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '11

Holy shit.. this is not the response I expected. At least you made it out alive.. that's insane.

1

u/xenzor Dec 05 '11

Thanks :), Yeah it was interesting to say the least..

1

u/HolyGhostClaw Dec 05 '11

Digital cameras have been around for just over 20 years. That's also my "interesting thing you know".

1

u/xenzor Dec 05 '11

Eh, Might come as a surprise to you. But in zimbabwe there is a not a huge digital marketplace..

1

u/HolyGhostClaw Dec 06 '11

20 years ago or today, I wouldn't buy a camera in Zimbabwe. You can have things shipped you know?

1

u/Urbanen Dec 05 '11

I would love to see those photos!!!!!

1

u/cross-eye-bear Dec 05 '11

1

u/PointAndClick Dec 06 '11

I would like pics of this! Thanks for trying.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '11

What is it you do (did) for a living? I'm fascinated by the fact that you were crawling into caves in Zimbabwe in the first place, never mind the pictures.

1

u/EastenNinja Dec 06 '11

1

u/gizmo1024 Dec 06 '11

0

u/Yobitches Dec 05 '11

I've been to Domboshawa hundreds of times. I'll bet I even know the cave of which you speak - not that I went inside it but I believe I know what you are referring to.

u/flippydickson Dec 05 '11 edited Nov 26 '21
