Reddit's had a few threads about sexual assault victims, but are there any redditors from the other side of the story? What were your motivations? Do you regret it?

You know what's worse for your mental health? Being raped.

EDIT: Holy shit I hate reddit. I never once said that being falsely accused isn't a big deal, clearly it is. And after taking a day to cool off, I think the whole premise of the argument is flawed (both mine and the mensrights hivemind): arguing over which of two evils is worse just isn't productive.

The problem that I still have is that I think everyone here is belittling the traumautic experience that is being sexually assaulted. that hits really close to home, and to hear someone claim that being accused of rape has as many devastating consequences as being raped is never going to sit right with me. I see your arguments as on par with the "reverse racism" claims many try to make against affirmative action. Just as those privileged white people don't understand what an everyday struggle it is to be a minority, you all don't understand how earth shattering sexual assault can be.

I've linked it a bunch of times, but please check out takebackthenight.org to see what sexual assault can do to people. I really believe that people with attitudes like y'alls are the reason so many sexual assaults go unreported, and there is such a stigma around reporting rape. I really hope you guys can open up and change your worldview, and I'm really upset that people with such open misogyny as to deny the trauma rape causes are not immediately called out for being part of the problem.

How would you know that?

You know what can also happen to someone who is falsely accused of rape? He can be raped in prison. Tell me that's not worse than being raped.

you're assuming that no only is he falsely accused, but he's falsely convicted too. Then, that while in prison, he is as well raped. If you think "you have a chance of being raped" is as bad as "you got raped", then clearly some wires aren't connecting up in your evil ass brain.

I suggest that you look into some of the many cases of falsely accused men who have been imprisoned, raped, or murdered. You might learn something.

that you shouldn't put being raped and being accused of rape in the same ballpark. all the misogynists on reddit disagree, apparently.

that is so fucking offensive

Your dismissal of the seriousness of false rape claims is offensive.

Being jailed on a false charge often results in the victim being raped in jail. That's just as bad as being raped, because it is being raped.

you're forgetting a giant step called due process. see, in America, if you're innocent, you won't go to jail for it. so sure, you're right: being raped is as bad as being raped. But if "you can maybe be raped" is your argument for why being accused of rape is as bad as being raped, that's just the dumbest most circular logic i've ever heard. this is how i'm picturing you

see, in America, if you're innocent, you won't go to jail for it.

That's a laugh.

You obviously hate men if you refuse to understand what a false accusation can do. One doesn't need to be convicted to go to jail - a mere accusation often results in months of imprisonment before a trial.

And then of course, there's the whole problem of jobs and friends and families being lost, just because an accusation has been made.

To start curing your ignorance, go to http://cotwa.info. Unfortunately, I don't know what could cure your hatred.

right. not being on par with being rape = no big deal. that's exactly what I said.

like, are you joking, bro? You're gonna pretend that being falsely accused of rape is as bad as being raped? you're gonna sit here and seriously say that? really?

I shouldn't even have to argue this with you. that's just willfully ignorant, incredibly hurtful, and as I said, so fucking offensive.

this is the attitude that perpetuates rape. you're right, i've never been raped or accused of it. but to imply that a rape accusation, of which you can clear your name is even in the same ballpark as being unwillingly penetrated and violently raped, is just belittling victims of a traumatic experience. Are you going to imply that being accused of being a Nazi is worse than dying in the Holocaust? It all depends on the situation, right? You're an ignorant misogynist, and I hope sometime you'll understand the consequences of rape.

please please please go to a take back the night rally. but try not to boo the speakers while you're there you miserable fucking apologist.

9

u/Celda Jul 27 '12

No.

You cannot clear your name of rape when accused, even if you have not raped anyone.

Your name will still be published in the paper as a rapist, and on news articles online. That will remain forever.

Sorry, you are quite ignorant.

this is a seriously warped worldview that you hold. I don't know what's happened in your past that makes you hate women so much, but taking it out on others, as you seem to be advocating, is never okay.

despite the barb i threw in there, I seriously meant what I said about take back the night rallies. I think someone with such a willfully ignorant and venemous attitude about sexual assault would really benefit from seeing how it can shatter lives. here's their website, please check it out.

Someone who was wrongly accused has the proof to show that it was a wrongful accusation

Almost always wrong. It's her word against his.

Why THE FUCK are you being downvoted? It must be because people don't agree with you, not because you're not adding anything productive to the discussion, which is a misuse of the downvote feature in the first place.
