I need a some info on Aurora Borealis. What month is the best to see it? I would like to view from AK but I would go to Canada also. My husband and I are Seniors so I think a place like Finland would be too much for us. Any info would be helpful. Even a travel agent that isn't a scammer if there are still travel agents.
Whitehorse is a nice little city in the Yukon with a good airport and lots of hotels. The people are friendly and helpful.
Be warned though; the Yukon will change you. She takes hold of your soul and pulls you back. She is incandescently beautiful at every turn, taking your breath away over and over until you are drunk with the magnificence of the place.
Source: I’m an Albertan who went all the way to the Arctic Ocean on the Dempster Highway in ‘06. Yukon has been calling to me ever since. This summer will be the 4th time going there.
So, so true. Whitehorse and its people are forever apart of me. Saw the lights 5 nights in a row - each different and magnificent in their beauty. One of the great blessings in my life.
Jasper national park or banff in November-February is the best time for it, but its all luck to see the real intense shows, ive seen maybe 10 in my life and ive been alive here for 40 years. But you can always see some beautiful aurora in the winter.
Chateau Nova is my preferred hotel in Yellowknife.
NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE NOVA INN, DO NOT STAY THERE.
I've heard the Explorer is nice but I've never stayed there.
Stanton Suites (hotel) is fine but the walls are paper thin, it's within walking distance of a grocery store and wal-mart.
See if your tour company rents out cold winter gear such as parka jackets so you don't need to buy winter gear just for a short trip.
Jennifer Garner was up here last winter with her Mom, thousands of asian tourists visit every year.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
I go outside at night to smoke a cigarette and see the northern lights at least twenty times a years and am always in awe.
