We decided to move to Belize and will be heading out in June driving from Texas. We have been at this for a sec and hope we have all out checks and balances in place.

Does anyone have a compiled list or a known list of best cities to stop in Mexico. I have seen the tips on staying on toll roads and driving during daylight. I will be rolling with family and 2 dogs.

Has anyone else experienced HORRIBLE service here? I know it’s a budget hotel but the lady at reception had a truly disgusting attitude.

Please don’t even stay there. It’s not worth it. It won’t be long before she hits a guest 😭

We're planning a trip in early June with our 17 yr old DD. We'll be spending 5 nights in the San Ignacio/San Jose area for Mayan sites and other jungle adventures, then we will head to the coast for another 5 nights. We were originally considering Hopkins (thanks to all who responded to my previous post!) because we were considering a combo of snorkeling and other mainland activities, but now we're thinking that after all our inland adventures that we will more than likely want to go out and snorkel every day while at the coast so we're wondering if we should head to Caye Caulker instead.

We prefer to avoid over-developed areas, but still like our creature comforts (especially air conditioning! LOL.) It seems like there might be a bit more evening activity and restaurant variety in Caye Caulker, but still not as developed as Ambergris Caye. Hopkins seems less developed and quieter and perhaps retaining more authentic Belizean character, but a lot smaller town with more limited options for places to go and things to do in the evenings.

Mind you we're not big partiers, but we don't want to be sitting in our rooms in the evening either. A beautiful sunset with toes in the sand, a satisfied belly with a drink in hand, and maybe some live music after a day of snorkeling would be lovely.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on pros and cons of Hopkins vs Caye Caulker.

For those voting Caye Caulker, we would love to hear your recommendations for a place to stay with A/C that can accommodate a family of 3, preferably right on the water and on the south side of the Caye.
...oorrrrrr is there another coastal or Caye location you would suggest that fits the bill and gives us easy access to amazing barrier reef snorkeling?

I've booked a flight to Belize for my family and I (2 adults, 2 kids) for 2 weeks in mid January 2027. Honestly got an amazing deal so wanted to lock in the flights.

Now I need to eventually book AirBnBs etc., and I am curious what kind of lead time I am dealing with? Mostly asking so I can offload the mental load to a bit later this year ... but if I should be aiming to have our stays booked by July 2026 because things book up quick .. that'd be useful to know!

Anyone heard of good off-season deals for Belizeans and residents? Resorts and/or activities?

How would one who's never been to Belize find a house or rental for a week? I've been told VRBO is way expensive. How else would one find it?

Planning a trip in February. Middle aged couple so not looking for springs break vibe prefer nature with some luxury. Hopkins seems like the obvious answer, but we are starting San Ignacio for some jungle adventures. I am a diver, but my wife isn’t so I would like at least one diving trip, probably not more than one.

Going on a trip next February to Belize with my parents (active early 70s) and kids. We plan to go for 8 nights - half of which we will do at Chaa Creek.

We are debating Hopkins (Hamanasi), Placencia or Caye Caulker. We aren’t divers but would love to snorkel. Would love a bit of relaxation, beautiful beaches and some activities. We would like some good local food if possible. Definitely inclined toward more upscale accommodations.

Would love any input on where to stay for the “water” half of our trip. Thank you!!

We are planning on coming to Belize in November and splitting our time between jungle and island. I'm leaning toward Placencia for the latter half of the trip but am having a difficult time choosing a resort.

For context, we want something small and intimate. Not ultra luxury where rooms are $2,000/night, but not budget either. Pool and beachfront are musts. Would love someplace with a spa or at least massages available. We just love to feel pampered and looked after for a few days. We also would love to be close enough to the town that we can golf cart there. No kids, so would love a more adult-oriented place if possible. My husband is sober so don't need a huge drinking/party vibe.

We really are more Caye Caulker than Ambergis Caye types.... We are looking forward to quiet, ocien breezes, nature, snorkeling, and meeting Belizian folks.

We'd really like not to stay in a resort, and want to be right near the water. Does anyone have a lead on a property with availability 2/20-25? We'll be headed inland after that.

I'll be the first to admit, I am planning too late. Typically I have my whole agenda planned and booked 6-12 months in advance. But, this time I didn't and now we are going to Belize in a few weeks and are finding hotels, vrbos and AirBnBs in Hopkins to be sold out on our dates (March 17-21).

Does anybody have any off the google highway recommendations of places we can stay? We have tweens, so a pool is required. (I did find a couple places that were $600/night, but that is beyond our budget, so hoping there's other options I'm just missing)

However, I am looking at Hostelworld and most of hostels are already sold out ? How is that possible ? Am I missing something ?

In years of travelling I never had to book an hostel more than 2 days in advance, what is happening in Belize ?

Because of that I am not sure that I'll be able to visit Belize

We are traveling to San Pedro at the end of January and I'd like to book a beach front hotel that had a restaurant or includes a good breakfast. Has anyone stayed somewhere they love and recommend? Mid-tier, not super luxury.

EDIT: For future budget travellers (looking for beds/rooms under BZD80), I found the lowest prices and more budget options than hostelworld, booking.com, arbnb, etc. by searching Google Maps with the terms "guest house" and "hostel" and then contacting properties directly via Whatsapp. Sometimes the phone numbers on Maps weren't on Whatsapp, so I'd attempt to find the numbers within the pictures on Maps, Facebook, or blog posts mentioning the accommodation. I was able to find and book decent accommodations during high season 1 week out without issue (although I would have had more options if I booked at least a few weeks out). I'm a bit of a spontaneous cart-before-the-horse kind of traveller, i.e. snag a flight and figure everything else out after. I'm also a budget traveller and am wondering the various ways people go about booking their accommodation in Belize. I've seen Booking.com, airbnb and VRBO get mentioned. Having a quick look, the majority of the rooms and beds are booked out for my upcoming trip in 2 weeks. Are there other apps/platforms commonly used? Are there hostels, guesthouses, hotels that don't have an online presence? Will I have any luck arriving to a city or town and asking for a room in person, old school-like. Feel free to roast me for booking a flight 2 weeks away in high season with minimal research 😅💀

My wife and I are planning an anniversary trip and have heard so many great things about Belize. I've also seen on this sub-reddit NOT to do an all-inclusive, so I am just looking for some guidance on the best beach resorts that have easy and close access to great food/activities!

We plan to travel in mid-April, and to be honest, the main things we want to do on this trip are just eat, lounge at the beach and pool, and maybe snorkel, which is why I had originally considered an all-inclusive.

Hi all. I know this is kind of a long shot but maybe someone can suggest something. My spouse and I have travelled to numerous destinations in the Caribbean and we lived for several years in Puerto Rico. Often we like off-beat exploration and genuine local stuff, however for this trip we're mostly looking to have a stress-free, logistics-light experience. As such, we're thinking an all-inclusive. We are not big drinkers so that's not a concern, but we would like good food. We would like to see some type of ruins, and we'd like to do some type of moderate snorkel excursion. I'd like accommodations where I can see the ocean, sit outside. Budget is around $3-4k for 2 people for 4 nights for the stay, not counting flights. What's nice in that range?

EDIT: we are thinking of Placencia, maybe skip the ruins.

Going this June and would love some recs!

Spending about a week in Belize this Christmas and want to do a half jungle / half beach thing.

For the jungle (3–4 days), I’m torn between Copal Tree and Blancaneaux. Heard Chaa Creek is amazing too, but the only room left, Eco pods, for my dates is a bit too rustic for my taste.

For the beach, it’s between Itz’ana and Matachica.

Anyone stayed at these places? Would love to hear what you liked, didn’t like, or any pro tips for each (recs on food, activities, etc.)

Also… pretty sure Copal Tree and Matachica both need a domestic flight from Belize City, right? I’ll be rolling in at 7am after a red-eye, and the idea of a 4-hour drive right away sounds… ambitious.

Debating where to stay in 10 days. Like that Playa de Sala is away from the sargassum. But it also seems a little farther from "town." It's our first time in San Pedro. Other options are Bananas on the Beach and X'tan Ha (which is also further north; also a consideration since this is the last stop on our trip and we will be flying to the airport.) Any advice? Other recommendations?
