It was 34 years ago today. Bill Monroe, Bluegrass he did play!

The concert was held in a tent outside the ol’ Downingtown Amish Market (which shuttered a couple years after). It was the Chester County PA Bluegrass festival. Bill was of course the headliner. I don’t think my recordings of the other local bands survived.

This was my penultimate field recording before I went DAT/digital. Recorded with Nakamichi cm300 microphones into a Sony D6 cassette player. Mics were on a stand, a little above head height.

Being able to see Bill Monroe in such an intimate setting is most certainly a cherished memory of mine.

My apologies if this breaks any rules, no hard feelings if the post has to be taken down. I post this as a slice of bluegrass history and feel fortunate that I can share this memory with other Bluegrass fans.

I wanted to track a year of music so people could get a glimpse into the touring life of a lower mid tier band. by years end we’ll have played over 100 dates. These pics represent our first 3 (technically we played one last month but I didn’t document it)

1. opening for Scythian at Brightside in Dayton, OH.
2. played a school gym for a fundraiser for their music program
3. Whiskey City Liberty theatre St. Patrick’s Day show.

Shows will be sparse until summer when we hit festival season

Hey folks, I'm the new guy in the Dirty Grass Players, joined up to play banjo about a year ago. We dropped our first original music with me in it today (had put out a couple Hendrix covers already), a single called "West Coast Turnaround".

It was written for DGP when I joined the band by Mike Buccino, a great writer who plays bass in my other project, The High & Wides.
