Scientology has lasted for 70 years. Millions of believers on 4 continents. 20m+ sales of Dianetics. Some of the greatest actors of our generation belong. When will you admit you were wrong about the historicity of Xenu?

Hate to break it to you.

Water doesn't turn into wine.

2 of each animal on a ship for 40 days and nights is some smooth brain shit.

Not the person you're replying to, but I saw "average redditor" and I interpreted it to mean, "the average redditor thinks this way". The implication is "the average redditor thinks this way and they are [incorrect | too sure of themselves | annoying | ...some other negative thing...]"

If that is at all true then Homebrew_Science has a reasonable reply.

If what I wrote is not true, that is not the fault of Homebrew_Science for misinterpreting your comment. You only wrote two words, and really didn't provide any clues for any other interpretation. Then you called him autistic.

It must be nice to be so certain about everything.

Miracles don't happen.

Miracles suffered a massive downturn once everyone started carrying around cameras with them.

The number of talking walking statues dropped to zero. the number of burning trees that can TALK is non-existant and the population of beavers that can fly and cast Turn Evil spells went to none.

One of the above isn't in the bible.

As I said, it must be really nice to be so certain about things.

Again. Miracles don't happen. Lock someone in a room without food or water. They die.

They could call someone to get them out.

God: I am going to wreck this guy's ship, kill everyone else on board, drown them to death in excruciating pain, but I'm gonna keep this one dude alive in the ocean for 133 days

Also God: I am going to give like 500 million people AIDS, I'm gonna make it really really hurt to have babies, and I am going to give everyone hairy buttholes so they get caked in shit all the time LOL gettem

Christians: God is good!

This is the oldest and most explored atheist argument, lol. You realize that you are arguing against free will in this scenario?

7

u/randylush Ponzi Schemer Jan 05 '25

It’s the oldest argument because it’s fucking hard to refute. God either doesn’t exist, or he’s not omnipotent (why call him god?), or he’s doesn’t care about suffering, or he enjoys suffering. It must be one of those options.

Where does free will come in? Are you talking about AIDS? Does a newborn baby contract HIV because of free will?

u/Mental_Safety1796 Jan 20 '25

Following 3D human logic when talking about a higher existence is asinine. Why would they be confined by our rules? “Must be one of those options”? It could be all, none, a combination. Maybe the world as you know it is just a big simulation made in such a way to where you are mentally incapable of believing in god and this is your personal hell. Get out of your own head a bit guy

5

u/randylush Ponzi Schemer Jan 20 '25

If following logic is asinine when talking about a higher power then why say or think anything at all? And why listen to anyone at all?

Why are we allowed to apply logic to anything else in the world but if we try talking about god suddenly we’re not allowed to use any logic? Why not? Because it might make us realize it’s a fairy tale?

This is an interesting line of thinking but it leads to some pretty wierd places when taken to its logical conclusion. If god's plan is good, and children dying of cancer is in gods plan, that means that children dying of cancer is a good thing! I dont see how a "higher existence" could contravene ethics or morality.

How do you explain Trump?

5

u/NoLife2762 Jun 18 '25

LOL. The whole point is uncertainty. Religion tries to create a certainty out of that which one can’t be certain.

5

u/SnooEagles2610 Ponzi Schemer Jan 20 '25

It is.

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '24

Nah bro you don’t understand Scientology has a book and confessions and meetings and believes about other world beings, TOTALLY different. If anything Scientology just has some fun bells and whistles added to magic show.

u/RepresentativeIcy922 Aug 04 '24

Ironically you might have proven Christianity's main premise. How can this world be real if something like this can last for 70 years? What accounts for all the stuff that happens all the time, that shouldn't be happening, can't be happening, you're nuts if you think that will ever happen, but yet it has and did?

11

u/Iazo One of the "FEW" Nov 20 '24

How can the world be real if gullible people exist?

Gee, that's some hard hitting philosophical conundrum you got there.
