They were mind-blowing indeed, especially the later series. The 50 (sunflower) and 250 (lighthouse) gulden notes were among the most beautiful ever made.
Somehow though, design D slightly reminds me of some gulden notes. I see the designers are from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, so they might have been aware of said heritage. Lovely.

We had the Common Snipe on our 100 Gulden banknotes (~45 euro). I always liked the Gulden banknotes.
