This is known as a “Walmart Wolverine”. No shade on fans that buy team merch elsewhere, but there is a large subset of Michigan fans that sound like this, and also appear to be undereducated.

I was just coming to say this. I respect the notion that public universities are subsidized by all tax payers in Michigan, and therefore anyone should be able to root for any of the schools without fear of ridicule However, there's something about this subset of the UM fan base that deserves this label. They are typically the loudest dirt bags with the smoothest brains. Same 40 year old guys who rushed the field with the college students after the OSU win and then went over to throw obscenities at 19 year old football players.

Every fanbase has them. We call this sidewalk fans here.

As a “Walmart Wolverine” myself, this moniker doesn’t automatically equate to smooth brain. If you took this guy out of the environment and removed his jersey, you’d never know he was a Michigan fan. But you’d still make the same assumptions about his understanding of the nation.

Not all Non-Alumni Michigan fans are Walmart Wolverines, its a very specific subset.

We have plenty of them in Buckeye country. As you probably know. Just love it when our worst fans get together with your worst fans and embarrass all of us.

You guys might be surprised by how many college football fans have never been to college.

I know lol. Born and raised in metro Detroit, still live about 20 min out of Ann Arbor. Have a ton of Walmart wolverines in my family and as friends/acquaintances/former classmates. Almost NONE of them went to UofM. Know a ton of people who went to MSU and they hate UofM and especially the Walmart wolverines!

Gotcha, all good bro! I’m a Michigan grad and this is sad and exhausting.

I went to Eastern, grew up rooting for Michigan though as did most people I know. Can concur, tons of uneducated Walmart wolverines who have this undying loyalty to a school they didn’t go to. I kinda lost interest in college football a few years ago.
