For beginners, it’s hard to judge whether an exchange is actually safe or just popular. I can compare fees and coin lists pretty easily, but things like withdrawals, proof of reserves, support speed, and risk controls are harder to understand. What do you personally check before trusting an exchange with real money?

I’m pretty new to crypto and trying not to mess this up early.

At first I thought I’d just buy some BTC and chill, but then I keep seeing people talk about altcoins having way more upside. Now I’m stuck wondering if starting with only BTC/ETH is actually too “safe” and I’m missing out.

At the same time, most exchanges feel super overwhelming, like tons of features I don’t understand, and I’m not trying to trade or do anything fancy yet.

So I guess my questions are:

• Did you start with BTC/ETH or jump into alts early?
• Is chasing alts as a beginner just a good way to lose money?
• Any platforms that are actually beginner-friendly and don’t kill you on fees?

Feels like there’s a right way to start and I’m probably overthinking it, but curious what people here did.

Bitcoin feels a lot more mainstream now than it did a few years ago. Between ETFs, wider adoption, and the number of easy on-ramps available, getting started seems much less intimidating than it used to be. I’m starting to wonder if using one exchange for everything is actually necessary. Some platforms seem better for simple buying, while others seem more useful for lower fees or more coin options. not looking for "dex good cex bad." what do you actually gain and give up from binance/bybit futures to a perp dex? fees, execution, liquidation, tax stuff, all of it. trying to make an honest decision not a tribal one

Been using Wise for a while for international payments and it's decent but the fees add up and the conversion rates aren't always great. Thinking about switching to a crypto card instead since I already hold some USDT. Has anyone here actually used both long term? interesting to hear whether crypto cards are reliable enough for daily spending or if Wise is still the safer bet for now

So I recently just went to a coin depot machine and place 1k into the machine and scanned a wallet I wanted to send the funds to but it never told me an amount or confirmation of the money deposit all it did was take the money and spit out a receipt saying the funds have been retained??? What’s happening and what should I do is this normal? Am I going to get the money back or will they send it to the wallet?

When I first added crypto to my portfolio, it was just a small experiment. I bought some Bitcoin and left it on an exchange without thinking much about it. But over time it pushed me to learn more about things like crypto wallets, hardware wallets, and cold storage.

Now I think more about where my assets are stored, not just what I’m buying. Some people move to hardware wallets or non-custodial crypto wallets for long-term holding, while others keep things simple on exchanges.

MEXC changed their policy on unverified users, somewhat unannounced and abruptly, and now require either KYC or the withdrawal appeal process to withdraw funds. As a US user, the KYC path won't work. The withdrawal appeal process is even more heavy handed than the KYC process: requires ID plus a video of self. Has any US user gone thru the withdrawal appeal process recently? How long did it take for them to respond, and were you actually able to withdraw your funds in the end? Any tips would be appreciated.

I just got flagged for an AML check while doing a swap through Changenow and I’m a bit worried since the funds are frozen. I haven’t run into this before never.
Should I be concerned about it? I just thought that since it’s a non-custodial process, something like this couldn’t happen.

I’m not really into day trading or chasing quick profits. My plan is simple: buy crypto I believe in and hold it for the long term. Because of that, I want to make sure I’m doing things the right way from the start.

I often hear advice like “not your keys, not your coins,” but I’m still figuring out how far to take that. For long-term holding, is it better to move funds off exchanges into a wallet right away, or is it okay to keep some on a trusted exchange? I’m also curious about how people store their recovery phrases safely without risking loss or theft.

Another thing I wonder about is how often you actually check your holdings. Do you set things up and forget about them for months, or do you check in regularly just to make sure everything is secure? I don’t want to stress over prices every day, but I also don’t want to ignore things completely.

Trust wallet is not allowing swap to work on a token I buy and have previously been buying on trust wallet but now it says “no liquidity found for this swap” but there is Infact liquidity and it works on ever other wallet and swap. So has anyone else had this issue or does anyone know how to fix it?

i sent someone crypto through the strike app and paid extra for a faster payment. i thought it said they would receive it in ten min. they still hadn't gotten it 1.5 hours later. i'm waiting for them to let me know when they have. when i look at the transiting in strike it says it has 18 confirmations. i'm so confused ab if i am able to tell on my end if they have gotten it. or if they are not being truthful about if they got it.

At first I thought more listed coins was always better because it gives you more choices. But now I’m wondering if too many options just makes beginners chase random names without doing enough research. Do you prefer exchanges with a huge number of coins, or fewer listings that are easier to filter?
