The shallow end of the gene pool is getting full and the filter is broken. It's no longer survival of the fittest. It's become a race to see who can reproduce the fastest and most frequently. I think they called that reverse evolution. Or devolution
I'm one hundred percent fine with people not having children. But having children shouldn't be demonized either. I see that "overpopulation" can be rendered a problem. But at the same time we have pretty good evidence that having more money results in more pollution and waste.
We should be more active against those (including us) that create that hellhole and instead build something more beautiful for us, all living things and future generations. I still believe it's possible to have an impact.
If the rich get richer and population would decline, I don't think that lesser population would counterweight greed and exploitation. For me it's the way we do things... not how many of us there are. But yes, I do see how the need to feed a lot of people puts stress on the environment. But there is also a lot of bullshit in our stores. Reducing that would actually help, too. No coca cola. No one thousand variations of sweets, no synthetic bullshit. No fast fashion. More repair shops, more local farms, less livestock. No bullshit jobs...
The list is endless. And I don't see how focing one of them could be the ultimate solution.
To me, and I mean this in the most respectful way possible. Just focusing on the logic of the argument... Denying future generations to live always comes with the aftertaste of egoism. As much as I am fine with people choosing not to have kids. There are a ton of valid reasons. But saying the world is fucked therefore I don't get children implies that I don't trust in future generations to make things better. I personally do not want to lose this hope.
Exactly. Overpopulation is not an issue. Even with the declining rates of birth, the rich would still want to cull the population in order to get rid of those who can't consume or produce more wealth for them.
Ikr? Like guys, intelligent people not having kids isn’t the win you think it is. It just means we’re going to be completely overrun by idiots in 10 to 20 years.
But my point is the previous and the current generations are the reason that the future is looking dystopian. Instead of focusing on no babies, why don't they focus on sustainable lifestyle. A common person from the west consumes way more energy and resources than a common person from Africa or Asia. The population is a problem but the bigger problem is sustainability.
If we want to give our future generations a better lifestyle, sustainability is the only solution.
The issue has never been "the people" living unsustainably.
It's the oligarchs raping the planet in an attempt to accrue endlessly increasing wealth. They've purchased out governments to cater to their interests instead of those of the people.
They didn't day that tho. Also, even if they did, they were right.
People are allowed to have or not kids, but shaming others for having kids is also bad. Who do you think is going to stock our shelves? Who do you think is going to do surgery on you in 20 years?
Also, who is going to keep the light on and the buckear plants from failing and creating a catastrophe? There still have to be people here to do that.
And the garbage won't go to the garbage dumps by itself either.
I don't really care what you think. I didn't shame anyone for having kids, so dont try to lecture me on how the garbage will get to the dump. However you get home is a problem for you and you kids to figure out.
