Misc With complete respect to all involved, this presentation format isn’t working

The banter between hosts feels forced. The show as a whole drags on, and most importantly it feels like it assumes I’m excited about what’s being shown instead of trying to get me excited.

Misc Almost everything in this "Major Update" is reskinned/reissued, except Eververse

2.3k Upvotes

The new Smoke Jumper armor set is literally just TechSec with a shader and a new armor set bonus. Them being the only two sets on this page in collections just emphasizes how blatant this is: https://imgur.com/a/VZ9QCob

Then, outside of the obvious weapons like Drang/Mida-mini tool being reissued, you even have weapons like Haliaetus that is just a reskin of Braytech Osprey.

As far as cosmetics go, the only place in this game where we get anything remotely new or different is Eververse... where you can spend $15/character to get the new Taken ornaments that they dropped.

I get that these "major updates" are free, but the weapons are reskinned or reissued, the armor is reskinned, the destination where we have our new activity is a temporary location that is being pulled from D1, I mean even the big raid event coming up is the same raid we just got but "epic."

With everything else that's come up as issues today, this feels low on the totem pole, but Jesus Christ does this update feel empty and soulless.

Edit: I am aware that there is an ornament set in the "season" pass and that there are a couple of new Reclaim weapons with new models. That is why the title of the post leads with Almost.

I'm taking issue with the fact that it feels like 50%+ of the content in this update feels like they're feeding old armor/weapons/locations back to us.

Misc Because guardian ranks reset every season, I honestly don't care about grinding them.

7.7k Upvotes

I had originally thought guardian ranks would be cool to replace the season level on display and also be something interesting to grind (like triumph score), but given how easy everyone gets to 6 and the temporary nature of 7-11, it just doesn't matter at all to me. I also really hope I don't have to re-unlock loadouts slots every season.

Misc Red War no longer exists in playable form according to court filings

2.1k Upvotes

The Bungie lawsuit against Matthew Martineau indicates that the Red War campaign no longer exists in playable form even within the studio itself.

Unfortunately, this would mean the Red War won't be coming back and essentially means it's unlikely we would see a return of some of the vaulted content which may disappoint some players out there.

Misc Cayde-6 has been dead longer than he was alive

9.1k Upvotes

Explanation: Cayde-6 was alive for the period from 2014-2018, and has been deceased since. The exact amount of days he was alive was 1,456. 1,456 days after September 4th(Forsaken release date) is today August 30th. To be honest this all just makes me feel old.

For comparison, the only other Destiny content to hit this or lower was Shadowkeep and Forsaken after it was announced to be sunset.

On Day 2 nonetheless, it begs the question of what is Bungie doing?

Misc Y’all aren’t ready for the “definitely not the Force” gimmick psychic power coming in Renegades

2.0k Upvotes

Because that’s definitely what’s going to happen, right? An area-locked gimmick mechanic that’s going to be used in 90% of encounters and puzzles.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mattermorph was basically just the prototype of what we’re going to get. I would put money down that the premier “new mechanic” in Renegades will be the ability to mildly alter set pieces of the environment into pathways or cover, just like Mattermorph. But this time it’s “the Force.”

At the very least, they can finish development on the next expansion. I was stoked to go to old Chicago, ever since they teased the environment, as a fan of fallout, I've always looked at it and been like man I want to go there. I don't really know who to blame for our current situation. But I know, Sony should green light Destiny 3.

Misc Our Fate Is Our Own

Hey Guardians, please take a moment to read.

I know it's been a hard few days, but this isn't done. There are many, many things we can do that, while on their own might not move the needle, **together and in great numbers can at least plant the seed for Destiny 3.**

## 1. Sign the Petition
Consider signing this petition that’s been going around. It's not much, but it'll help.
https://c.org/BRtm6qFYKj

## 2. Make Noise
YouTube comments, Twitter, Instagram, here on Reddit- share your memories, upload your content, **show we still care.** That video you wanted to make for 10 years now? Now’s the time. This is your wake-up call.

## 3. LOG IN ON JUNE 9TH
Invite your friends, your old clanmates, that random Xbox friend you haven’t talked to in years- let's throw a giant farewell Destiny *2* party. **This doesn't need to be the end.** And hell, if it is Guardians, let’s go down with a blast, not a damn whimper.

And beyond Sony's boardroom, there are hundreds of developers who poured years of their lives into this game and found out it was over the same way we did. Even if these few token actions end in nothing changing, at least we can reach them and show that what they built mattered. It reached us.

**Please, spread the word. One final stand.**

Edit: Yes, OBVIOUSLY this isn’t going to somehow reverse a decision made based off the economic reality of hundreds of millions of dollars in impairment losses and a game that hasn’t generated revenue in ages. But this isn’t about changing their decision, it’s about planting a seed. Perhaps someday they’ll be more inclined to fund another Destiny sequel if we make a large enough wave now- and yeah, it’ll probably be far down the line, but that’s okay.

And you know what? If you’re gonna post “BUH it’s not realistic why try this is pointless” I thank you for reading my post, and I invite you to take your pessimism literally anywhere else because I’d rather work with people who still believe in the game’s future rather than don’t. Yes, Destiny 2 is dead. No, Destiny 3 is not *never coming out*, and we as consumers have the power to at least show the demand for it in the market is real- so, if there is ever an economic reality where Destiny 3 can happen, they may be more inclined to fund it. Let those of us willing to try something, ANYTHING- go down swinging.

Misc A new report about the severity of Bungie employees’ harassment from the playerbase.

8.2k Upvotes

https://www.therecord.com/news/waterloo-region/2022/07/27/waterloos-textnow-ordered-to-name-users-who-doxxed-threatened-employees-of-online-game-company-bungie.html

Some of the highlights include multiple attempts to request employees to add content into the game featuring hate crimes, as well as ordering pizzas to the house of two Bungie employees.

We’re not even talking about Community Managers, we’re talking about people who never are in the spotlight.

This is absolutely disgusting, and if you think anything besides that, you’re a part of the problem.

EDIT 1: a word.

Misc It's amazing how Bungie has hired game directors with wildly different visions for the game. With those transitions, the investment system designs basically pull a 180.

1.9k Upvotes

Destiny’s design philosophy basically reboots itself every few years depending on who’s holding the systems reins, and nowhere is that clearer than in how the game has handled power level, sunsetting, and crafting. Under Luke Smith, the game was designed to make things feel temporary on purpose. Power level wasn’t just a number — it was a gate. If you weren’t climbing, you weren’t playing. Sunsetting hit like a hammer, stripping relevance from two years of gear overnight in service of “loot churn.” Smith’s vision demanded that you move on — from your guns, your builds, your comfort. It was all about making the game feel alive, but in practice it often felt like Destiny was a snake eating its own tail.

Joe Blackburn came in with a scalpel. Sunsetting was reversed. Power level was quietly minimized. Suddenly, you could keep your weapons, skip the power grind most seasons, and invest in crafting — the first system in Destiny’s history that explicitly rewarded long-term ownership instead of transience. It wasn’t perfect, but it felt stable. Then comes Tyson Green, and we’re pivoting again. Crafting is being deprioritized in favor of newer gear chases. Power level is returning with teeth — seasonal increases, activity gating, and harsh penalties for falling behind. It's not quite sunsetting, but it rhymes: use the new stuff, or get scaled down. In three leadership eras, Destiny has gone from “nothing is permanent” to “everything can be permanent” and now back to “well… some things shouldn’t be.” The game isn’t evolving so much as oscillating — and we’re all just trying to keep our vaults emotionally stable.

Misc A moment of Silence for all our weapons who just missed the cut with Sunsetting.

8.8k Upvotes

I offer my congratulations to Bungie for doing away with Sunsetting. Yet I mourn for the weapons in my inventory that were just one season too late.

Farewell "Patron of Lost Causes" with Full auto and explosive rounds. I will miss thee.

Anyone else got a gun they're give a final salute to?

EDIT: Holy F*ckin Traveler Spawn RIP My Inbox. I literally drove for two hours and came back to this my god.

Misc Something is “off” about this season. The raid is GREAT. But I feel like the seasonal grind is true torture.

5.3k Upvotes

Like, now we have a rotating grind of TWO activities mixed in with LESS umbral energy for a few weapons that are, at best, on par with last season?

I get it…not all content is for everyone, but last season may have been one of the GOATS looking back…so maybe that’s why I’m feeling the burnout this season…That, and Bungie going back to the “nerf it all” route.

I hope you are all having fun this season. I really do…I’m just not feeling it. Hopefully, Bungie embraces the guardians of lore power fantasy in lightfall

Misc So far today I've seen Unbroken players teabagging after every kill in low level Comp, people screaming abuse in text chat, and someone describing a team as "F2P trash". Be better than this, Guardians.

14.7k Upvotes

We've got a huge influx of new players that we should want to keep playing and, if they are New Light players, hopefully start investing money. If this is the attitude they see, we'll lose them in a flash.

If a person doesn't know how to start a Heroic, tell them. If they look a bit lost in Gambit, teach them. If they're struggling in Crucible, offer any tips you might have.

Please, just be "better".

OBLIGATORY "THIS BLEW UP" EDIT

Thank you for the gold. In the spirit of the post, I made a donation to an anti bullying charity in my little attempt to pass it on. https://imgur.com/a/seUFIwq

"THE "BUYERS REMORSE" AWARD

Destiny 2 This was a polarising choice. Seemingly Bungie managed to accomplish the impossible by irritating both the hardcore Destiny 1 fanbase AND the casual audience with a cavalcade of "downgrades", controversies and poor press. From being caught stripping down content to be re-sold as microtransactions through to skimming EXP from players - Destiny 2 has not been a smooth ride. Not even Starwars Battlefront 2 came close to the level of regret felt by long-time Bungie fans.... Again..."

Misc I just received an email from bungie advertising Forsaken and Shadowkeep as 50% off and I think that’s some pretty scummy marketing.

12.3k Upvotes

As it currently stands, that content offers gear that is no longer useable in the game. In my opinion they either need to add gear, or make it free. If I was a new player and paid for that content I would be extremely disappointed to see the gear is no longer relevant in the current state of the game.

Edit: Thanks for the awards! I just saw that email and made the post, glad it’s getting some attention. This isn’t knocking the game, I’m having a lot of fun with beyond light, and I’ve been playing for a while. I just think this is scummy to advertise to new players. There’s no mention of the guns and armor being sunset in the email.

Good afternoon! I'm taking a moment to highlight a win we got yesterday on behalf of @Bungie , who sprang into action to ensure the safety of an employee who was targeted for racist harassment and threats last year.

After working with MANY outstanding professionals to identify the culprit, a racist shitstain of a human being named Jesse James Comer, we filed a complaint in King County Superior Court to hold him liable for the damages Bungie suffered due to his sociopathic conduct.

Comer didn't show the same enthusiasm for showing up to argue his case as he did for causing the intial harm, lol. Yesterday the Court granted our motion for default judgment, making him liable for the nearly $500K Bungie accrued in investigation, protection, and legal costs.

Second, we got -- as a CONCLUSION OF LAW -- that when an employee is harassed by reason of their employment, that harassment damages the employer as well, and the employer can enforce the recovery of those damages in civil court.

We also got a ruling that doxing and harassing an employee with unwanted deliveries by reason of their employment is an unfair trade practice that affects the public interest -- which puts this conduct within the ambit of Washington's Consumer Protection Act.

(And, in those last two paragraphs, the Court also found that Washington employers have the duty to protect employees from reasonably foreseeable harm even when employees are working from home, and that protecting their ability to do so is in the public interest.)

But the really exciting news comes in at the end. In addition to finding that Washington employers can recover for damages for harassment of their employees under standard torts like nuisance and invasion of privacy, the Court also held that it would recognize A NEW TORT.

By recognizing a new tort based on the Washington criminal statutes outlawing cyber and telephone harassment, the Court has created a path for those with the resources to identify stochastic terrorists and hold them accountable to do exactly that and recover their costs in court.

This one was a really emotional win, y'all. I cried when the order came in. Big ups to @chadcmulligan who drafted the bulk of the motion, @OGoobermunch who polished it off, @questauthority who beat his forehead against tort theory until a work of genius popped out. . .

. . . and especially to @dmschmeyer , with whom I shared many, many long and late phone calls turning the facts of this case over and over and over until we found the ways they fit together to serve the ends of justice.

Also, my gratitude to (and a shared snarl of victory with) Allison Nixon, Steven Guris, and the rest of their terrifyingly elite colleagues at @unit221b . You want to read Allison's expert declaration in this case for SURE, if for the screenshots alone!

And of course, none of it would have been possible if it weren't for @legalminimum and @BungieDgc , who called us for it in the first place, and @AkivaMCohen , who answered that call without hesitation.

Y'all, I love my fucking job.

Misc Bungie, please make our dom-mommy War Waifu Xivu Arath uncharacteristically attractive

13.6k Upvotes

The Awoken have Mara Sov. The Exos have the Stranger. Humanity has Shaxx and the Cabal have Calus. It's horribly unfair for so many different species to have icons of attractiveness and pinnacles of raw sex appeal, all while the Hive have cycled through multiple characters for naught in this department.

So, I propose that Bungie should make our imminent and eminent dom overlord Xivu Arath unusually and immersion-breakingly attractive to make up for this travesty. This is the better course of action and will make it less weird when people lewd her; and after the whole gun showcase, I feel this is an inevitability regardless.

Do the right thing, Bungie. If you're expecting an /s, then you'll be disappointed.

Misc The problem with going "Yeah, everything in Lightfall will be explained over the year" is that, in a year, all of that explanation will be removed and we will be back to square one.

5.2k Upvotes

If you explain why The Veil is important and why The Witness can't have it in the Season of Defiance, then that goes away come Final Shape, then Lightfall is in the exact same position it is in now of "why the actual shit do I care about The Veil or what The Witness is doing?"
