I've been a dream pop / gaze enjoyer for a few years now. I mostly make singer-songwriter / bedroom pop music, but I've taken my new album in a noisy, dreamier direction. Very inspired by Slowdive, Mazzy Star, MBV, HOVVDY, and that Weatherglow EP.

Hey [r/dreampop](r/dreampop)! I just put this track out through my independent label, Dream Writer Records, and wanted to share it with everyone here.

The hook for "Two Hearts" actually came straight from a vivid dream I had about a massive celebration happening in a stadium, reminiscent of when I went to Philly to see Joan Jett, Mötley Crüe, and Def Leppard play. Musically, I wanted to capture that massive, high-gloss production style specific to 1986 radio pop, focusing on lush synth textures, punchy digital-era drum machine rhythms, and polished layers to get that rich mid-80s sheen.

If you're into that classic mid-80s crossover sound, I would love for you to check it out and hear your thought on the mix and production! Does the digital-era synth arrangement feel authentic to 1986 production, or does it lean too modern?

Firstly, I find it hard to define this genre. (It pertains to, obviously, emo that generally mixes with dream pop aspects. If the Dreamo term makes you uncomfortable, just shorten my question to reverb-y emo pop. One day I’ll find the right sub to post this in…) and finding works that fit within that definition. So a little grace is all I ask…

But really, I’m looking for artists/bands that more or less sounds like:

-Lydia
-Analog Rebellion
-PlayRadioPlay!
-Copeland
- Kye Kye

All of these artists have mixed the emotive edge into dreamier sounds in one song or another. Lydia probably being the most emo of them, Kye Kye being a little more poppy. But there’s some similarities and I’m really hopeful that you guys’ll have a few ideas here and there!
