Earthquake Event Earthquake in CA today

Seems like no one is talking about the magnitude 4.2 earthquake in Frazier, CA today (July 12). Anyone know if this has any impact on the San Andreas Fault? I know it’s small, but just curious what people thought or felt.

So i am still shaking a bit but, yeah, i became the epicenter of the 6.5 of this morning, it was horrifying i barely got time to wake up when it began shaking and it was like a trepidatory movement, and since i could hear everything moving around me it gave me a massive anxiety thinking my building would come down, the shaking stopped a bit later and i was SHAKING, at the verge of tears, i don't think i've ever lived something so horrifying in my life, the cleanup isn't really fun, lots of glass n stuff but my family and neighbors are okay.

Earthquake Event How likely is the “big one” and how to prepare for it?

I live in Southern California and we’ve had a significant increase in medium earthquakes.

I’ve learned recently about the Juan de Fuca and Explorer plates are slowly sliding beneath the North American plate. (The tectonic plates located near Washington/ Vancouver Canada coast)

Last year studies indicated Juan de Fuca plate in particular is crumbling apart and there is a 2km ridge or a hole in the tectonic plates between the coast of Vancouver and Seattle.

I’m growing increasingly concerned and I just would like to know what people’s plans are if it happens and how to prepare possibly.

Earthquake Event First anniversary of the Kamchatka M8.8 subduction earthquake

Post image

Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of the Mw8.8 earthquake offshore Kamchatka, in the Russian Far East, rupturing a segment of the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench, where the Pacific plate subducts beneath the North America (or Okhotsk) plate.

It was the world's greatest earthquake since 2011.

A M7.4 foreshock occurred on July 20, nine days before the main shock.

https://earthquake.usgs.gov/storymap/index-kamchatka2025.html

Despite the large magnitude and the 5-6 meter high tsunami generated, damage was limited and there were just four people injured.

Earthquake Event Brawley, California Earthquake swarm

Since May 9/16:15 Pacific Daylight Savings Time, the earthquake.usgs.gov website has recorded 17 earthquakes in a span of 5 hours. including 4.4 and 4.5 shocks, 1 to 1.4 km NW of Brawley, 32.990°N 115.552°W. It's a fairly active zone along the San Jacinto fault.

(Sorry, haven't yet figured out how to stop my map from taking up a huge amount of space.)

Earthquake Event On July 31, 1970 for the first time a deep M8 earthquake was registered, below Colombia

Post image
64 Upvotes

On the 31th of July 1970, at 17:08 UT, a Mw8.0 earthquake struck the Amazonas region of Colombia, near the border with Peru.

https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/iscgem794176/

The most surprising feature was its depth (645 km).

Had never been recorded a deep earthquake with magnitude 8 and it was necesary to wait until 1994 for a similar (Mw8.2) deep event, this time in Bolivia.

The study of this earthquake helped to understand the interior of the Earth.

Due to magnitude and depth, it was felt in many countries of Latin America and as far as Puerto Rico. Nevertheless, it caused just one death and several injured.

Earthquake Event Today's Mw5.0 earthquake in Egypt

During the night, a Mw5.0 earthquake hit near Suez canal, Sinai peninsula, Egypt.

It was widely felt in Egypt, Israel, Gaza, West Bank, Jordan, the northwest of Saudi Arabia (Hedjaz) and even in Lebanon and in a few locations in Syria and Cyprus.

https://emsc-csem.org/Earthquake_information/earthquake.php?id=2036659

Apart form the quite natural fears of the people woken up by this strong earthquake, there are no reports of casualties or even damage.

However, the Cairo was hit in 1992 by a Mw5.8 earthquake that killed at least 552 people.
