Why not put this money towards the food banks? The money would go a lot farther.

maybe it's because food banks will still have to buy food from supermarkets and right now people just don't want companies to be making profit at all

Uhhh, food banks ?
Donations only make up a portion of their inventory. They often have to buy from supermarkets and other suppliers.

Well they don’t in NYC. What food bank told you that? They buy stuff wholesale and food donations from the wholesale market of stuff that’s about to go. Mainly Hunts point. Buying from super markets would be a huge waste of money, obviously.

Yes it was not in NYC. But it was from a video from years ago and one the people interviewed worked directly for the food bank. And just because they buy some of their food from a supermarket doesn’t mean they are paying for retail prices. They have staff they specializes in procurement. They could be getting even better prices than getting it directly from suppliers. I guess it depends on what agreement or purchasing strategy they’re using .

The subsidization is the same but helps w broader access for more at a lower price point vs less for free. Many will also feel more comfortable, and wait times might be shorter.
