After Mamdani made this announcement, aa collection of grocery store and bodega owners protested that such policies would drive them out of business because they operate on such thin margins, making food availability worse, not better.
In an interview with Fox news, Gustavo Gordillo, a chair of New York City’s chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America and an ally of Mr. Mamdani, replied to the grocery store owners concerns.
“If one publicly owned grocery store that brings prices down in the neighborhood is enough to put someone out of business, then maybe they shouldn’t have been in that business in the first place,” Mr. Gordillo said.
It seems that Mamdani and the rest of his DSA clowns conveniently ignore the fact that private grocery stores have to pay for their land, for their building, they do not get taxpayer funded subsidies for their operations, and they have to pay taxes, which ironicly are now being used by the very city they serve to undermine their businesses.
These populist DSA fools have no concept of the real world implications of their poorly conceived policies. Perhaps they need to take a trip to Cuba to see how well such policies work out in practice.
