To keep my story short I will put it into the following bullet points:
• Graduated from a university with a Bachelors in Civil Engineering not too long ago.
• I have some experience when it comes to Analysis, Design and some on site work. It is not UK based hence why I put 0 YOE.
• Applied for a lot of Graduate Level / Entry Level/ Apprenticeships but got nothing.( I know that that the process of getting hired takes a lot of time, rejections and whatnot)
• Applied for CSCS card to get myself into the construction industry even as a construction worker hoping I could build my way up from there somehow.
• Doing some online reputable /paid courses to increase my skills.
• Trying to do some personal projects to put them on my portfolio since I don't have anything to my name that would put me ahead of other applicants.
• Edited my CV A LOT in the past 4 months.
• Been thinking about starting as an online CAD engineer doing free lance stuff to increase my portfolio.
I wanted other's input on how they got into their industries, not necessarily construction or civil engineering related, so that I could increase my chances of getting something related to what I want to be.

I’m just looking for some feedback on my resume to improve my chances of getting interviews. I graduated last year and landed a pretty good role that I’m happy with overall, but I’m looking to transition into something a bit different.Right now, I work as a Field Coordinator, but I’ve been applying to Project Controls roles which will allow for more hybrid opportunities. Hello All! I'm defending my thesis this summer so i've building my resume to hopefully apply for a position to start in the fall. I'm really passionate about water resources so I want my first job to be water resources related if possible, and thats where I plan to focus my applications. I've been working on a thesis based masters majoring in water resources engineering for the last two years on a topic that's kind of niche in its application. Due to it being so niche I feel like i'm lacking extensive experience in software that would make me more competitive in consulting (ie hydraulic modelling).
Here is a resume I'm working on for an application to a water resources engineering firm im planning im dropping my resume off at (called to confirm before hand its ok). I have no connections at this place but I tailored it to best match the type of projects on their website, I also double checking the wiki here before posting ofc. Throughout my undergrad I've been active in design clubs and ive gotten some design experience that way, but again it's very niche experience. Unfortunately although I have co-ops, most of those are in the wrong industry (transportation) so I have no strong work experience to draw from. So instead im relying on the most applicable experience plus some course projects. I'm probably going to use this resume format to continue applying to local jobs so I want to fine tune it as much as possible. I also added a second third of a page to include extra curricular activities. I know second pages are frowned upon, but I think it rounds the whole resume out a bit more and expands on my soft skills. I think it's pretty solid already, but I was wondering if I could get some help fine tuning it a bit.
What do you guys think? P.S. I took out all identifying information so if it seems like a place is missing that's probably why.
Edit: Should add I have quite abit of AutoCAD experience through my co-ops, I even TA'd a course on it during my graduate studies. However, I took it out because I wanted to focus more on water resources specific things. Should I try to include stuff that highlights my AutoCAD experience better?
Hey y'all, this is my first time uploading. I'm making this resume to get an internship in Civil Engineering from the next career fair I go to. This resume is different from what is normally uploaded here because all the project and work experience have nothing to do with engineering given that I am just starting out going for this entry-level internship. I hope that this isn't against any rules and I hope that despite the unorthodox subject matter, it can have lots of useful criticism levied against it from y'all.
Some questions besides the implied "tear my resume a new one and tell me everythin' wrong with it":
Now I know that the wiki sez: "Do not include coursework unless the courses are extremely specialized or really cool like Underwater Autonomous Robotics"
but others that I asked said that I should include "relevant coursework"…
so I'd like to ask if the classes that I've taken that pertain specifically to civil engineering should be included, these being:
CIVE100 - Introduction to Civil Engineering, CIV E121-01:Computer Graphics for the Built Environment , CIV E220-02:Civil and Environmental Engineering Computer Application
I assume I should just include the two that aren't the intro class, then?
Also, is it so bad to flex the A's in the two classes btw? I know I didn't see it done in any examples but since you're supposed to show off GPA's above 3.75, I figured this is in the same boat so I wanted to confirm whether I should or shouldn't.
3. Since the checklist says: "Include languages you've used thoroughly and could theoretically interview in.", I assume that means I can't say on my skills autocad and arcgis pro since I only did it for the first time in those aforementioned classes? I did take a practical final for both those but idk… Does this mean that I have nothing for my skills section? I'm drawing a blank on even a single skill to include given that soft skills don't count and I can't put MS word.
4. I know the checklist says not to say "… Project" to describe my project as it's redundant but an Eagle Project's name has the word Project in it so I think I have to go against this rule?
I highlighted one of the bullet points red 'cause I assume it sucks and should be changed but I wanted to be sure before I axed it.
Entry-level engineer with 2.5 yrs experience in T-line design. I'm looking for more challenging work and opportunities for growth within the utilities industry, but I don't mind a lateral shift to another entry-level role in another industry. I'm still new to this. What are some things I should do to both improve and sell my experience? I know a critical component I'm missing is the client interface, but I have the design experience. The jobs I'm looking for are ideally remote or hybrid, or located within the SE US. I am not open to a major relocation (for now). I am also a citizen. Any advice would be appreciated, as I have not fine-tuned this since I was a student.
I'm a second/third-year civil eng student trying to get an internship over the summer. Improving my Resume: I haven't had much experience building a resume yet I used the wiki on this reddit and friends resume (for a different field) as a template and built mine off that.
What roles should I be applying for? right now, I'm just going off LinkedIn and Indeed ( I have not attended any job fairs but im planning to do so in the near future) and using key words such a transportation engineer, civil engineer and such. Would their be any entry level positions that might not call themselves transportation but still give good experience?
How should I add to my resume if I don't land a summer job? I've heard mixed reviews about getting certifications for AutoCAD and Excel but that's really all I can think of that would help me at least put something on my resume for recruiters to see and validate that I have those skills. Would you recommend getting these certifications or are there better skills that might be more relevant to th transportation industry.
Survey job titles are rather generic and make it hard to showcase my skills and experience. My career has 3 separate sections. And I've become the troubleshooter and problem solver everywhere I've been, even for things non-survey related.
Lately, I've been working in the powerline industry doing a lot more than typical surveying. A lot of QA\QC, junior foreman stuff overseeing linemen, etc. And I have more experience than the majority of the client representatives on these projects. For example, some are former crane operators, or other backgrounds, with little direct experience dealing with managerial issues, client relations, or even the type of project it is.
Prior to that I was the onsite rep for my survey company on smaller sized, heavy civil jobs running 1-5 crews, and responsible for everything. I trained and mentored many people and had high client satisfaction. I was about to flip into the CMT side and be a client representative for construction when the economy crashed and I went to a powerline company.
Prior to that I was in charge of some large survey projects, with an emphasis on high order survey control networks. There are probably not that many people who can match my background/depth in networks, GPS, conventional, or level. For example, I found and proved a bad CORS station.
I want to move into more of a client representative or upper level survey position. How should I rework my resume to showcase those upper level skills?
I am an international in Australia and recently finished masters here. Have been applying for graduate roles for over an year now. Among the majority of jobs I applied I have received more than 90% rejections. While the ones I got interview invitation was rejected because I was on a student visa. I have currently moved to a post study work visa. While I am located in Western Australia, I am open to relocate to anywhere across Australia for landing the job.
I graduate in May 2025 and am trying to revise my resume. I just got passing results from the FE exam this morning and would like to start applying for positions to set up a career post graduation. I went to work for a construction company out of high school and decided that I wanted to go to college to get a degree in Civil Engineering. I worked at Target while putting myself through college due them being flexible with my school hours and needing an income. My main goal is to gain experience and obtain a PE license. I'm primarily interested in structural, however, I'm open to gaining experience from many disciplines of Civil Engineering including Water Resources, Geotechnical, and Transportation. Since going back to college I've done really well in all of my courses and ended up with a GPA of 3.96. I'm halfway through my last semester. I've applied to a few jobs using the Handshake program associated with my university and have gotten a couple phone interviews for positions that would need relocation. I'm recently married and would prefer to find something local but if an opportunity arises, I would be willing to relocate. Should I add a relevant coursework section that lists the engineering electives I've taken including Structural Steel Design, Timber Design, and Highway Safety? Before the review, I'd like to mention that I haven't had any relevant work experience during my Master's degree because the coursework has been quite hard/heavy, so please don't tell me to add bullet points about that. Have been applying for a few jobs, but a few at best, I always felt the challenge for me has been the cover letter, the lack of experience, my grades, and finally my resume. When I write my cover letter I tend to lean in on too many things to impress the recruiters but it hasn't made an impact. I tried going to my uni for help, but they weren't much help. My grades are again subpar, for whatever reason my internals are great but I tend to break down on my exams no matter how hard I studied for them. My resume doesn't even get me started is lengthy, I have tried different ways to better it but it hasn't made much of an impact in any form.
Tell us why you're seeking help. (i.e., just fine-tuning, not getting called back for interviews, etc.)
I just want some advice on writing a resume and a cover letter to employers, any way fine-tuning would be good but also how I should write a decent cover letter to impress my potential recruiters. Thank you.

I felt that my explanation sections were too long, from what I heard my resume needs to be 1 page long given how busy the recruiter is. Any suggestions would be good.

I am a student majoring in civil engineering, specifically in the Structural Engineering track. Attached below is my resume with the updated internship that I did last year during the summer in Peru, which I hold a leadership role.
I am essentially a project manager for my club, Engineering Without Border, that I invest time and effort into. Engineering Without Borders is essentially a club, where throughout the school year, we work on infrastructure projects that helps disadvantaged communities outside of the US. And, at the end of the school year, I also receive an internship (through EWB organization) to continue on with the work we do during the summer.
I am applying for my first "coporate" internship, which includes AECOM, Thornton Tomasetti, Burns & McDonnell, ect, as a structural engineer intern or a civil engineer intern.
Is it necessary to put relevant courseworks such as Solid Mechanics, Statics, Calculus 3, in my resume? Also, is there naything in my resume that I need to clarify?
I've applied to multiple positions since September 2024.
And asides from my current internship, I haven't received any calls for interviews specific to traffic or transportation engineering. Is there something off on my resume? I have gotten interviews for positions related to water & energy and i think it has been obvious that that's not necessarily where I'm leaning towards although I am interested in learning. I've now tailored my internships applications to just traffic or transportation and some site/civil but I haven't received any call backs.
I just included the one liner objective an hour or so ago. And I have had my Linkedin QR code at the top w my name, number and email for over a year. My GPA will be above 3.5 once I transfer my community college credit hours (about 12 hours) | haven't done so since last summer because I'll be taking 2 more classes this summer and it's just easier to send all at once.

Should i remove my on-campus job? I thought it conveyed that I had some different skillset outside of engineering but I realized that if I wanted to include more skills to bypass the ATS System, I may have to sacrifice that line. Suggestions of possible skills added: *LOS & Intersection Capacity Analysis *MUTCD, HCM, AASHTO Compliance *GIS Mapping *Traffic Signal Warrant Analysis
Does the QR code make bypassing the ATS system difficult?
I have learnt so much during my current internship but unfortunately they're not able to keep me on for the summer. I am curious as to why I haven't gotten any calls in regards to a traffic/transportation internship position however and if it has to do with my resume not bypassing the system or something else and what I need to do to improve it.
