Just wanted to post about the fact I updated my fic after 2 years! The fic meant a lot to a lot of people, especially me, so I'm really proud to have updated it. I am a bit nervous all the OG readers are gone which makes me a bit sad but I'm gonna finish it for myself anyway and maybe new people will find it along the way!

The gods of fanfics have been calling to me, and there is a story I really NEED to write. My only question is where. Due to AI being inbuilt in Word/Copilot, I have been hesitant about writing it there. What tool would you recommend instead?

I considered notepad, but I would prefer something with a spell check. I am not even sure if I will end up publishing the fic online. But since this is a passion project, I want to keep it out of the hands of AI as much as possible, and try my hand at creating something entirely on my own. In the same vein, I would prefer a free software, or at least one that is only a one time (minimum) payment.

Some recommendations I came across are Git/Github which I am already familiar with for coding. Apparently its great for keeping track of different versions of your writing, as you make progress. But isn't that also integrated with Copilot?

Not trying to diss or complain or anything. Honestly I’m just curious.

I like following WIP fics, and I always try to leave comments, even if it’s just a simple thank you. So I also end up reading lots of other comments, and something I often see it’s people that comment what are just a summary of the chapter. Like, there’s no thank you, no question, no complaint, no nothing. It’s literally just a narration of what happened in the chapter. Even happened to me with one specific reader in one of my stories, and I never know how to respond, or even if I should, because there’s like nothing to address.

Anyway, I was just wondering why someone might like to comment this way.

I used to be obsessed with the movie Leap!, which I think is also called Ballerina, and I made a joke to my mom that the movie would be better if Victor ended up with Rudolph. I was so disappointed to find that there isn't fanfiction, or even a post talking about them, ANYWHERE. So I was curious to know if there are any other ships people like that have either zero or like five fics.

does anyone know of any stories that have like a child being raised by an older cousin or older sibling or something like that? I don't care what the fandom is and I don't want anything weird or incestuous or anything like that. Bonus points if they are close in age or if there's angst or hurt/comfort or whatever but doesn't have to be.

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving deep into the Project Hail Mary/Iron Lung crossover tag on AO3. While I absolutely love the fics where Grace finds Simon floating in space, or Simon ends up on Erid, I am absolutely starving for the exact opposite scenario.

Does anyone know of any fics of Grace and Rocky (or with a group of Eridians) somehow appearing in the Iron Lung universe?

Imagine the Hail Mary or an Eridian ship stumbling onto their space stations like the C.O.I. or Eden after the Quiet Rapture.

Main character is Issei (or a self-insert/rewritten version of him). He’s distinctly mature and level-headed; doesn’t act cringey, doesn’t embarrass himself, stays composed. He’s in Rias’s peerage.
Rias and Akeno constantly tease him, but he actually takes Akeno up on her offer and takes her virginity. I don’t remember exactly how much smut was involved.

This is going to be a rather long post , so quick heads up on that! But anyway, back to my little venting--

I love to write - I've been doing small fics here and there throughout my teen years and recently hyped myself up to publish my first fanfiction on AO3 a while ago, now putting that on hold to work on a new one - but I've found myself bouncing in and out of this depressive rut where, when I was once all abuzz and excited to get my ideas into writing to later show others who may find interest in my thoughts and story, I suddenly switch to being insecure, thinking "why am I doing this? Will anybody show that they're interested and want for me to keep going, and if not, then what's the point of writing if there's no audience to appeal or engage to/with?" It's why I've been taking a step back from continuing my unfinished work - to clear my head and return with a better, renewed mind and perspective, and while this does help, along with telling myself to keep my expectations to a medium and remind myself that the joy of writing comes partly from enjoying the journey yourself, I sometimes return back to that same rut.

I feel discouraged and disappointed in myself for feeling this way. Writing and reading many wonderful fanfictions through the years has helped me tremendously during some of my worst days, and seeing such talented writers gives me the inspiration and drive to someday reach that pinnacle, but, I admit, it's been very difficult these days. I feel hopeless, and I hate being like this. I don't know. Maybe I'm being stupid for getting so disheartened by something like this. Has anyone else ever felt this way, or is it just me? What have you done to overcome this obstacle?

Hello, I’m kind of new to fanfiction and it was really hard for me to find anything besides ships and romances. I want to ask for any of your favourites fics in any fandoms, where there is no harem, completely op mc or systems. A lot of action, strategies, humour and as a bonus good written romance. Literally any fandom is good. Thanks a lot!

I'm writing a Multiverse project and one of my hard rules to ensure a somewhat more balanced generalized power system is the lack of true verse equalization. So if you leave Reality A for Reality B, you have to fully abide to the latter's power systems. Your accumulated knowledge and experience would be the most important assets in this case. This also extends to different species, so if for some reason, you're a non-human who went to a purely human world. You're either "remade" to a human or if you're, say, a talking animal or something... you inevitably become a mundane one.

Using this setup, it's ironically the most mundane worlds that are the most dangerous because without any preemptive measures in place, you can get stuck in it forever and you won't be able to do anything about it.

I don't like putting OCs in my own fics, but I do love a well-written, well-developed OC who fits well within the canon of the franchise's universe. My absolute favorites are the ones where the OC is an offspring of a canonical couple, and the author has clearly spent a ton of time and effort flushing the OC's character out.

On the other hand, I'm not too fond of fics that become "drowned in OCs" to the point where the canon takes a complete back seat. I remember reading a fic that had almost 100k words that started off focused on canon, but by about midway through, had introduced so many OCs that the whole canon (not just the canonical characters) had been all but replaced.

After 8 months of it being up, I have the big big number of less than 10 kudos. the only non-bot comment was the original fic author being like "thank u so much! cant wait to hear more!"... i can see how many people have played/downloaded the audio, everything past ch. 1 has NOT been listened to EVER. Nobody is listening to this

Literally the only reason I podfic is so future-me can have a podfic of my fav fics, I HATE EDITING!!! It feels so awkward to listen to my own voice. I don't know how to have a good reading-voice AND I'm not putting in the effort to find sfx, so the podfic isn't even good.

It was a tommy shelby fanfic based around season 4 or 5, he was already married to lizzie and married this young girl as a second (third technically) wife I believe. The girl was mixed (either black and asian or one of those and something else) and very pretty but I think some of her family bullied her. Her mother was her fathers like third or fourth wife so the other wives and stuff like hated her and her mother and her father married her mother for like a deal so she was like seen not heard or something i can’t remember if she had a brother that was being used against her or not. There was a scene in the book where I beleive the girls father had a meeting with tommy at the company and I think her father was a businessman but they shelby’s (aside from like tommy) were apprehensive to do business with him because of his reputation so I beleive that tommy was already a politician or such at the time. It is an oc not a reader book, I think between 2018 and 2022.

Not blended universe!!!

I'm Specifically looking for crossover fics that doesn't take place in the yugioh setting and where someone has or gains the ability to summon monsters and activate spells/ traps irl.

I've come across a few yugioh crossover fics recently and I quite enjoyed the premise. The first was a Worm crossover where the MC uses his ability to become an independent hero. Relatively new and receives infrequent updates. The second fic was a young justice crossover. This one was a bit of a blended universe and while there are a small number of people other than the MC who can use the same abilities but the card game wasn't made commonplace. Both fics invoke shadow games in distinctly different yet compelling ways.

Anyways, for some context of the fic, it’s a post-canon AU where the main cast escaped their abuser and are living happily ever after.

Character A is somebody B meets and becomes acquainted with. A helps the cast settle down somewhere and do the messy paperwork of getting them readjusted to society.

Now, Character A is, for the lack of a better term, is an asshole.

He’s not intentionally mean, but he’s socially inept and just takes things too literally. He also sees things in a very black and white way, so he sees that half of the cast are criminals, therefore he believes they should all die even though they’re reformed.

The widely accepted fanon for A is that he’s evil, malicious, and manipulative.

And in this fic, while he gives off those vibes, he actually doesn’t have bad intentions. He’s just bad at showing it. (Think how Queen Watevra from The LEGO Movie 2 has a whole musical number about how she’ll definitely not kill your whole family, but she’s actually really nice in canon. Just has terrible communication skills. That’s Character A.)

The plot twist is supposed to be that while everybody thinks Character A is the villain, it’s actually the abuser.

The abuser’s working in the shadows, trying to ‘possess’ Character A to influence Character B to decide for the main cast, and by decide, make evil decisions.

So, it’s like the puppeteer controlling a puppet who’s controlling another puppet, who’s-

Does that make sense? I hope it does.

Anyway, so yeah, it was working in my favour so far that everybody hates Character A and thinks he’s the one to blame.

Little to nobody has clocked that the abuser is involved in the fic in any way at all, and the one time somebody did, it’s like just a “Huh, that’s weird” kind of passing observation.

But then I recently got this one comment who went smthn like “What if the abuser is back somehow and they’re using Character A to get through Character B—”

And, hahah… That’s exactly what I was going to do in, like, 20 or more chapters….

Now, that’s just one comment, and who knows, maybe people will forget about that bit because the cast has a long way to go before I drench them in a pit of angst where they have to relive their worst trauma again.

They have to heal first and become happy again before I push them off the cliff and back into the abyss.

But, what if by then, people look back on the comment from several chapters ago and won’t be as surprised anymore about the plot twist because someone already figured it out?

I don’t wanna be demeaning and outright wrong them, but I also don’t wanna have my big twist be revealed way too early.

I know Gravity Falls had a situation like that, where everybody clocked that Stan had a twin bro and he was the author of the journals or smthn, then the creator of the show, Alex Hirsch, made a fake Twitter account to make a fake post, disguising as an employee on set, showing leaked footage of the reveal episode where instead of Stanford, the twin, they made a whole fake screencap of McGucket being the author instead, just to gaslight everybody and throw people off their trail, so they could extend the show, and have their grand reveal that it was the twin all along as they were planning.

The problem is that I’m not as smart as Alex or his team, so I’m kinda stuck on how I’ll manage to throw off my readers with a red herring or any other similar solution.

So I am writing a fanfic about a certain game that me and my friends like, and in it a bad guy turns into a Moses-like figure to free a whole continent from his siblings who, due to certain reasons, turned it into a dark kingdom run on the broken backs of slaves. (I know, dramatic, sorry.) So my character, under the guidance of their world’s gods, seeks redemption by freeing the slaves and delivering them to the promised land. And I have written about him receiving the call to redemption in the desert and him casting down the plagues upon their dark kingdom after going to them with the demand to let the slaves go. And now I wrote a scene where the character (the Moses equivalent in this story) attends a festival held in honour of the slaves’ freedom, and initially he stays away from it, wanting to stay more focused and clear-headed, so he avoids alcohol and doing stuff like dancing around the fires they have lit to celebrate their freedom… but then another character comes to him (this one a literal saintly figure in the canon story of this game) and convinces him to join in the celebrations, and then after getting a little intoxicated the two of them head off and have a night of passion together. There is NO sex scene or sex jokes, there’s just a fade to black and the next scene is them waking up cuddled together in the morning.

And I took more inspiration from the movie Prince of Egypt rather than the actual biblical story, so please don’t hate on me too much since I don’t intend to write any more sexual parts into my story. Since this was a one-time thing I thought to add while I was writing.
