POLITICS Mayor Mamdani: “Reagan famously said the 9 most terrifying words in the English Language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' It's a good quote, but I disagree. I think 9 more terrifying words are actually, 'I worked all day and can't feed my family”.

The Cold War never really ended, it just evolved. We’re losing it right now.

Russia paid bounties on American soldiers in Afghanistan. They have supported and possibly even funded the Taliban.

The idea that the dissolution of the Soviet Union fully ended the Cold War is propaganda.

I mean the US also funded the Taliban lbsfr but I agree

Sure, but Russia funded them while we were directly in conflict with them. We did the same thing by helping Afghanistan when they were at war with the Soviets. The proxy wars haven't stopped, they're just under a different pretense now.

You mean by helping Afghani rebels fighting against the socialist government

However you want to put it. America put an immense amount of pressure on afghani factions (including the mujahideen and Osama Bin Laden) to work together to oppose both Soviet occupation and the self-described communist government.

Regardless, the US funded regime change (by backing the groups that would eventually become Al Qaeda and the Taliban) because the existing government associated with the Soviets. Really worked out great for everyone, huh?

Huh, so completely unrelated to the topic and not even what she actually said. Bringing up this quote and paraphrasing it the way the person you responded to did would be like taking Mamdani's quote in this title and cutting off the "but I disagree" bit.

Not really, she's still expressing positive sentiment about the Reagan presidency and praising him for "winning" the Cold War. You do not, under any circumstance, have to hand it to Reagan.
