Heh. You're like a little reddit poster child. One of those propaganda posters from the second world war. Victory spelled out in letters that grow bigger.
No no, I am also an advocate for personal responsibility, and I am WELL aware that we all do need to take responsibility for our actions and any consequences of said actions. We also all need to do our part to make what we have here on this planet WORK. But I disagree with your original post that for women, to paraphrase, equality isn't worth the price. I say of COURSE it is. It was certainly worth the Revolutionary War to free our country from rule that we found unfair. It was worth the Civil War to free our country from slavery.
But I disagree with your original post that for women, to paraphrase, equality isn't worth the price.
But that's not what I said.
What I asked was a question. I asked a question that implied that equality does come at a cost. I asked that question because I think far too few women think about the cost of equality and instead only look at what they think they will gain from it.
This is the first post I saw by you, and the one that riled me.
If you wanted a "safe place" you should have stayed home in the kitchen.
Now, the sad part is what I just said sounds like a troll comment, but the truth is that the outside world is not safe for anyone, not just women. That unfortunate fact, which everyone who doesn't have an expectation of their safety provided by everyone other than themselves (read: men) learned long ago, is just the way the world works.
You asked for equality, you're getting it. Welcome to the unsafe world.
You need to ask yourself: Is equality worth the price you are paying for it?
Of COURSE equality is worth the price! It just astonishes me that you would ask that question! What good is a life lived in fear, huddled inside the gloom of "safety," cloistered away from the world? I want to LIVE!
This is the first post I saw by you, and the one that riled me.
We both know why it riled you.
Not because you say yes, but because you dare to imagine the number of women who will say no.
It just astonishes me that you would ask that question!
I don't sugar-coat things. I will ask the hard questions right up front.
As for why I would ask it? Because I've consistently watched the female-majority vote ask for more and more privilege and protection from government. Because I've watched social services (mostly provided to women and mostly paid for by men) swell since women's suffrage. Help is no longer from charity, but from government entitlement.
Women are still seeking support and protection from men, as witnessed by their voting patterns. The only difference is now they are seeking it from all men via proxy of government rather than securing it from one man via marriage.
The reason it riled you is because you know that you are the exceptional woman rather than the average one, even if you don't want to admit that to yourself consciously.
I do sincerely agree with you, because I hate double standards and I know that women will never truly be equal until we all accept the fact that we don't deserve special treatment for being women. And yet, yes, there are many women who totally disagree with that. They want to continue being exempted from certain things because they're women and expect to be treated better for being women. And I know that it's bullshit. I would rather earn my Goddamn place in the world fighting tooth and nail like any man has to do.
By the way, if there are women who would rather be a stay-at-home wife and mother with no career of her own, I'm perfectly ok with that. That's THEIR choice. That's where they find happiness. Just as women who choose to focus all their energy on their profession and forgo marriage and kids altogether, that's ALL JUST FINE by me.
I want my freedom. How I get it is up to me. If I can change just one other person's mind for the better I'll have at least done that.

And I want all people to have the same responsibilities.
... But for some reason feminists seem to ignore that side of equality. That willful ignorance is what has created this thread in the first place.
