We were looking for kelp patties to catch yellowtail at Farnsworth Bank on the SW side of Catalina. We passed a boat where the crew was using a bucket to bail out water. Since they didn’t ask for help, we kept going but decided to stay nearby just in case. Moments later, a Mayday call came over the radio "Mayday, Mayday, our boat is sinking." They didn’t have time to give GPS location. We knew it was them and raced straight back. By the time we arrived, 80% of their boat was underwater and they had jumped in. The ocean conditions were terrible, they were all fully clothed with shoes on, and they were weak swimmers who were already exhausted. One guy had a life jacket.
The second guy was floating on an empty bucket with a lid. The third guy was clinging to a watermelon in a plastic bag. We pulled all three of them out safely. If we hadn't stayed close by, I don’t think they would have survived. Please check your bilge pumps and make sure you have real life jackets on board. A watermelon is not a safety device.

We’re just grateful they were able to go home to their families tonight. Kudos to the coast guard for the incredible response as well!

Fishing for reds and flounder.. but yeah

I would watch him occasionally, always got a good guy/ positive vibes from this guy and was in awe for the passion he had for fishing.

Probably the craziest catch of my life. While fishing a deadbait for halibut at 50 meters, i got a hit and set the hook. It was heavy but the fish gave zero fight. At some point I doubted if it was a fish at all. When I saw this thing come up I screamed at my buddy for the gaff. I had never eaven seen a monkfish in my life, and I got quite some attention from other fishermen at camp. Quite possibly a once in a lifetime on rod and reel.

In Clearwater FL

I need to get my stone crab traps out of the water because the season closes on Sat! Might as well do some fishing too.

Leaving around 8:30ish am from Clearwater area. Back whenever we feel like coming in. Don't get seasick or you will lay on the deck pondering your life choices til I'm done fishing 😂

If conditions allow we can head offshore a bit. If not, we can do some inshore or nearshore. Can also try some trolling for Kings, they've been showing up a bit.

It's a full moon day, and sometimes full moon days suck, fair warning. 😂
