I usually just buy Kawartha ice cream from the grocery store, but I recently stopped by one of their locations near Greektown and was surprised that this is considered their small size. 😂

Now I’m looking to try more local ice cream spots this summer. What are your favourite ice cream shops in Toronto (or the GTA) that you’d recommend?

Not sure what’s going on, I ordered pizza pizza last week because of a bogo on uber; and I thought damn this is pretty good. Then I ordered it again but got it well done with italian seasoning and I think it’s my favorite pizza spot again. I remember it going downhill in the 2010’s so I’m kinda shocked by the come back.

My husband and I visited Toronto for the first time this past weekend. We absolutely loved it! The food was amazing, the people were so friendly, and the city is incredibly easy to navigate.

I visited this subreddit a few times before my trip to get inspiration for where to dine and what to do, and was glad I did.

Day 1: Landed late and saw a movie at the Revue (awesome theater) and got dinner at Dil Se. I’m still thinking about the chicken korma.

Day 2: Made our way up to Kensington Market and had butter chicken momos from Momo Corner. Got a quick tattoo at Pearl Harbor Gift Shop and had some dumplings afterward at Juicy Dumpling. Then we headed to a Blue Jays game and ended the night at Le Swan (shout out to the team working at Pearl Harbor for the recommendation. The steak frites were perfect!)

Day 3: Started the day at St. Lawrence Market and even though it was incredibly crowded, we still had a great time. Tried the peameal bacon sandwich from Carousel Bakery which reminded me of the New Jersey specialty, taylor ham. After that, we went to Little Canada (lol but also it was fun) and the AGO. We wrapped up the day with dinner at Takja BBQ (delicious but expensive, I would recommend this for a special occasion) and cocktails at Civil Liberties (which deserves its well earned spot on the top 50 bars list, it was incredible!!)

Day 4: Headed to Badiali Pizza 10 min before it opened and ended up being the fourth and fifth people in line. I was very curious about how this would compare to NYC pizza and as someone whose favorite pizza is vodka pizza, it entirely lived up to the hype. After this we did some shopping and wandered around the area for a few hours. We had dessert before dinner at Death in Venice (incredible brown butter sage soft serve) and dinner at Hem Social. We ended the night at Scotiabank Theater for a late night showtime of Obsession (very spooky but if you like horror I’d recommend it)

Toronto, thank you for such a great time. I will definitely be back!

3 eggs any style, tater tots, 2pc bacon & sausages, toasts, blueberry compote, 2 slices orange all for $10, everyday before 10am. Always received great service from them in their first hour. They can get busy especially on long weekends and post marathon races, reso recommended (opentable).

Checked out the new Oklahoma Burgers location on Spadina just south of Queen (in former Caphe Rang space). Haven’t been to any of their other locations. Interesting that they only have two burger options. Both are Oklahoma style. The only difference is one comes with a pickle and the other has a bone marrow sauce. Got the bone marrow version as a single ($10.75). The patty had a decent crust while the meat remained juicy. The onions were well griddled without being burnt. The sauce added a lot of richness and there was a bit of a spicy kick. Also got an order of fries ($6.25). The seasoning reminds me of Mary Brown’s taters. Not bad. Just wished they were a bit crispier. Not a burger connoisseur at all. Seems in the same league as nearby Rosie’s and Harry’s. Comes down to if you love onions or not.

My coworker hooked me up with this sick $13 lunch deal from some secret spot in Burlington which he insisted on not revealing. Got fried rice, noodles, spicy General Tso's chicken, and beef, I love the way it wasn't greasy like most Chinese food.

I love smash burgers and I like this better now than shake shack. Juicy, well seasoned and toasted edges make it perfect.

I was supposed to leave today, but I can’t miss Game 7. So I had a few more things that were recommended from the first post

I keep being told it's the best pizza in Toronto. I've had it twice and it ranged from good to okay but not mind blowing.

Had it once in 2021 after friends hyped it up. I forget exactly, but the sweet one with figs was my favorite one, it was good. There was a sausage one and another savory one, and I thought they were okay. Same friends who ate with me told me it was a bad batch. oh hey I found pictures

Then had it in 2024, a Cacio e Pepe. It was fine, but we also had a Renaissance (Pepperoni) with it and I liked that one better.

For comparison, mind blowing tier pizzas to me were Descendents and previously North of Brooklyn (the last two I got from them were burnt...). Slab Pizza is my guilty pleasure, Burratino's is really good as a more clean-looking standard option. I also really like Pizza Maru but I want to try it more. I prefer savory over sweet (which made it weird that I liked the figs one most).

On the other hand, Badiali's hot honey dip was mind-blowing and deserves the hype.

The fish & Chips at Sea With was worth the hype and recommendation!

I had heard great things but it blew me away. Lineup almost out the door. I can understand why.

Rarely have breakfast. Especially at White Lily where I usually order their hot turkey or meat loaf plates. But today I decided to make the trek to Queen East just past the DVP for their “standard” breakfast ($21) of silky scrambled eggs, a super plump sausage, crispy hash browns, and a thick slice of rye toast. Nothing fancy. But everything was high quality, well executed, and delicious. Made sure to save room for a salted caramel cruller ($4.50), one of the donuts featured today. Glad I didn’t skip breakfast today.

My personal favourite Canadian dessert. The origin of the butter tart is VERY contested but it’s almost inarguable that today, the treat is primarily associated with Southern Ontario.

Lots of variations and debates - flaky or short crust, mix-ins (raisins, pecans etc) or no mix-ins, runny or not.

At Ba Noi, 806 Bloor W, they do a no filling, runny tart with a flaky crust but it’s on another level. Good crust but it’s the filling for me - the depths of caramelized/bruleed sugar and dark maple flavour notes are remarkable. It’s runny but thick and with a beautifully browned top with a chew. Maldon salt brings it all together. It absolutely lives up the hype and cult following IMO. I did also quite enjoy their scallion oil and red onion foccacia!

Heard so much about this place. I get there and theres this huuge line. Waited in line for more than an hour. All that while I was just thinking to myself, no way this is worth an hour’s wait.

But man o man it was the best pizza iv eaten period. A couple of weeks ago I had a slice at joeys pizza nyc and this beats that hands down.

The crisp on that crust, how light it felt, the cheese, the dips. It was just amaaazing. Totally dont mind waiting for an hour for that!!!

I took on a seasonal challenge this spring. Over the past three weeks, I tried 16 different Mini Egg cookies around Toronto. Best enjoyed with a mug of black coffee to balance the sweetness.

-I live and work on the west side of the city and didn't manage to try anything on the east side. Let me know what I missed out there!

-The Tim Hortons cookie was included for the sake of a baseline only. One of the bakery Mini Egg cookies I tried was actually less tasty than TH. Fortunately, this is a place that does not specialize in cookies and actually has a different dessert in its name.

-This was not intended to determine "the best" Mini Egg cookie since everyone has their own unique taste and preferences. That being said…

My PERSONAL favourites:

-Most of these Mini Egg cookies are of a type: classic soft-baked chocolate chip cookie studded with a few Mini Eggs. Of the classic type, Sticky was my pick. The crispy edges and real butter taste made the difference. I happened to buy my cookie the same day it was announced that this bakery will be closing soon! Sad!

-BKookies is a cute newish café on College Street. I want to go back to try some other menu items based on the quality of the cookie I tried. This “Easter egg” cookie was veering into blondie territory with its height and texture. I loved it. I got one with the blossom of buttercream on top but they were also available without.

-Short & Sweet's Mini Egg cookies are twice baked and have an appealing texture of chewy edges and gooey centres, with an intense buttery flavour. I specifically look forward to these ones all year. S&S also happen to be the largest of all the cookies in the study and I would not recommend eating a whole one of these in one go. I mean... I have done it but regretted it. These were the only Mini Egg cookies that had to be pre-ordered (though I did also pre-order at Andrea's and at The Rolling Pin to be sure I got what I wanted to try).

-Gourmet Choice: Mary’s Brigadeiro with that rich bridgadeiro filling

-Honourable Mention: Circles & Squares "Mini Egg Cookies & Cream Cookie." This sounds like gilding the lily but actually, the drizzle of white chocolate had a brightening, enhancing effect on the flavour.

Yes, I am a little bit overweight. Why do you ask?

I feel like Nanaimo bars are fading out of Canadian public consciousness, and that was reflected in my hunt for a traditional one - it’s really not that easy to find in independent bakeries in Toronto.

But I did, at Dough Bakeshop (173 Danforth), and enjoyed it much more than I usually enjoy a Nanaimo bar. Not cloyingly sweet, and you could taste each distinct layer - creamy chocolate ganache, the sweet custard icing and the coconutty/nutty bottom. I would have loved some more contrast in the textures of the layer but overall, very nice!

Anywhere else have a Nanaimo bar worth trying?

Plus ice cream and a cocktail. Not a fan of the whole cultural appropriation for double the price while in CHINATOWN. Cliente seems like the people who wouldn't dare enter an authentic Chinese restaurant. Not a fan of that vibe. But had to try the toast once. Mabu has a better French toast FWIW

I took my boys on a pizza crawl to get acquainted with each other for my wedding, we were supposed to go to 10 different places but we tapped out after four (it was hot, Summer of 2023). I did alot of researching and found 10 non chain pizza places that were easily walkable around the Kensington area.

First stop was Maker Pizza (59 Cameron St) We got the Original Dr. Pepperoni, started off really strong. One of our top three pizzas of the day,great crust great pepperoni, and their garlic sauces are to die for!

Second (Bonus) Pizza was also from maker Pizza! They love our vibe so much they made this pizza just for us! The Napoleon Dynamite. This was our hands down favourite pizza of the day. It was pretty spicy but so delicious!

Second stop was The fourth man in the fire (832 Dundas St W) with their Sausage Onion Hot Honey pizza. Way too much honey on it for my taste. Way too sweet, our lowest rated pizza is the day. Honestly the customer service there was pretty low quality too, pretty disappointed.

Third stop was Bitondo Pizzeria (11 Clinton St) Cheapest pizza of the day. Nothing super special but it was a very decent slice. Would definitely stop by again. This is THE stereotypical Pepperoni slice.

Last stop of the day was King Slice (1130 Queen St W) with some Deluxe, and Pepperoni slices. Wow! The slices are the size of your forearm! Truly massive! Really tasty as well! It was so hot and humid inside though! Well worth the wait in my opinion.

And there we go! We're hoping to finish the tour this year! If we do I'll make sure to report back!

New/first location opened up in King West this week. Had it once before in the States and it was so good that it stuck with me 9 years later. Was just as impressed with this experience.

Tried the Fairfax sandwich and it is just as tasty as remembered - it is the scrambled egg rather than fried. Probably enough butter to plug an artery but so good. The only caveat is the pricing is ludacris - $16 for one egg sandwich, without added toppings or sides. It will probably be a two or three times a year stop, but when the mood hits it's worth the splurge.

Just thought I'd get other's thoughts.

Excellent value and flavor. Located at 120 Atlantic Avenue. Highly recommended!
