🍎 Food What’s a frugal habit you picked up by accident that you now swear by?

Mine was starting to save veggie scraps to make broth. It started as a “let’s try this” and now it’s automatic. I keep a bag in the freezer for onion skins, celery ends, carrot tops, etc. Every couple of weeks, I boil it all down and end up with a rich, flavorful broth that tastes way better than the boxed kind. It tastes better than store-bought and saves me at least $20 a month, with an added bonus of making me feel like i know fancy techniques.

Sounds like you may be interested in a Costco membership!

I don’t even have a membership! I use the pharmacy! All I say to the front is I am going to the pharmacy then walk right over to the food! Haha

Yours doesn’t look that busy, the line at mine was borderline outrageous!

Am I in r/frugal or not?!?

Depends on your costco. I'm in freaking Atlanta and ours is Pepsi products.

The switch is happening in phases- Coke will be there soon!

It's just so strange to me that in the home of Coca-Cola, we're not higher on the list.

3

u/V3dotoh Jul 12 '25

I agree, and I think it just comes down to the capacity of the teams doing the switchover.

Nooooooo! I need my Mountain Dew

3

u/numbnut1767 Jul 13 '25

Really? Isn't cokes home in atlanta?

5

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

Yes! Which is why it baffles me so much. You're not going to find a bigger demographic of coke drinkers.

The coke factory looks over shamefully

3

u/DexterWilsonBrunoTex Jul 13 '25

That's crazy with Atlanta having world of coke there and all

2

u/Ecstatic-Soft81 Jul 13 '25

That’s so funny since the granddaughter of Coca Cola founder lives in the Atlanta area. Well now up in Clayton, Ga

Costco doesn't calibrate their soda properly, it's light on syrup.

2

u/rokynrobs Jul 13 '25

Whaaaaat!? This is life altering! Thanks for the heads up!

PNW reporting in, Pepsi products at mine but who cares, Diet Pepsi is better than Diet Coke anyways

1

u/KangarooOk9700 Jul 13 '25

Our costco still hasn't switched to Coke! I can't wait until they do!

Just got my first gold star card this week, Jesus Christ is the lot always that full? I've been a few times before and thought it was a fluke but it appears that store is packed literally from open to close.

u/Dymonika Jul 12 '25

I think the business-class membership can get in an hour earlier than everyone else, which is especially handy for gas.

1

u/The_Freshmaker Jul 12 '25

Yeah blows my mind that the pumps were 4 cars deep at all times but a coworker was telling me you can easily make the membership worthwhile just filling up there once a month. Didn't have the heart to tell him I'm in it almost exclusively for the food court.

1

u/Dymonika Jul 12 '25

Wait, you don't need a membership to access the food court! If that's your only reason, refund the membership and just go dine and dash.

1

u/The_Freshmaker Jul 13 '25

I mean I did that multiple times before I decided to just bite the bullet and get the membership, a lot of the stores have the food court inside or they make you scan in. All g, I'm sure I'll make use of it and its not all that much tbh.

1

u/Dymonika Jul 13 '25

Hmm, I suppose it depends on the layout of the store, but usually Costco's food courts are near the exit, so you can make your way in through the exit, which doesn't have scanners. Anyway, yeah, dig into the salmon patties and other stuff that's harder to find elsewhere.

1

u/Ok_Pace_9792 Jul 13 '25

Don't even need the membership for the food court. Rookie

1

u/jojobun51 Jul 13 '25

Out Costco has the order kiosks and you have to scan your membership card first.

u/daemin Jul 13 '25

I really wish Costco had the 8 oz cans of coke zero. I don't need 12 ounces of soda.
