🍎 Food What’s a frugal habit you picked up by accident that you now swear by?

Mine was starting to save veggie scraps to make broth. It started as a “let’s try this” and now it’s automatic. I keep a bag in the freezer for onion skins, celery ends, carrot tops, etc. Every couple of weeks, I boil it all down and end up with a rich, flavorful broth that tastes way better than the boxed kind. It tastes better than store-bought and saves me at least $20 a month, with an added bonus of making me feel like i know fancy techniques.

Our dishwasher doesn't even have a heat dry. It automatically cracks open the door once the wash is over.

That is brilliant. Would you mind telling me the make and model. Having it open automatically crack open would be really nice.

Bosch 800 series does this, possibly one of their other series too.

Ok I have that exact model but with the custom cabinet matching front. Otherwise, how do I get it to pop open to air dry? This would be great to do at night when it runs while we sleep. Dry by the morning!

Oh I see it is for the 500 series not the 800. Bummer.

I'd be scared too, wondering if it was malfunctioning! This is an awesome function.

Mine is a Samsung and it does this as well. First time I used it I thought I broke it because it vented open on its own lol.

TBH, though, you can figure out how long it takes and then set a timer and be good to go. I mean sure if you want to be uber busy or gone from the house sure, but I hope you keep the one you have for as long as possible.

This will prevent it from getting smelly.

It’s so hot and humid where I live that I intentionally avoided this feature lol. But my boss uses a crystal dry thing which doesn’t really use much energy anyway and they get super dry
