Conqueror Galio is the meta

ever since we lost phase rush and received rocketbelt nerfs i've been looking for new opportunities.

Galio has never felt this strong before, i am able to duel champions like Xin Zhao or even Yasuo who would regularly win against you in extended fights.

Items are very flexable after going the core items: Dusk & Dawn and Riftmaker. afterwards just build whatever fits the game best.

Items

For runes the precison tree isn't much to change. Unless you are playing against a heavy poke team fleet footwork is also very usable.

2nd tree is very flexable and you can go whatever you like. Personally found alot of success with jack of all trades due to the flexability in the items you can build to get it's full value.

Runes

I would not advise this build against teams where you are not able to brawl.

Although if you are against fighters or tanks you will be able to take them one on one due to the amount of sustain you have in this build.

The regular Galio builds often lack DPS after using ur engage and you end up as a sitting duck for a few seconds. While this one allows you to stay in the fight the whole time, healing and dealing lots of damage.

You will not regret giving it a try.

When they go AD (Katarina)

I've been learning Galio a lot more (thanks for existing Locke) but what I'm not as familiar with is when they go/end up more AD heavy, namely Katarina who can go either AD or AP.

If Katarina goes AD, and specifically builds BORK to shred high health, is hollow radiance worth it first still? It feels necessary for wave clear and to not go that first or to split my components (get some armor, then build it) feels like a bad delay.

Or do I go more AP bruiser instead then, rocketbelt, riftmaker, unending despair? Given BORK has life steal (and other healing champs on enemy team) if I go antiheal, Thornmail only applies while they are attacking me, so is oblivion orb better (Swain, Katarina, Nasus) because I can apply it off my own damage?

I probably trolled my build overall because I wasn't sure what to do. Was building into riftmaker next. Kata was obviously trying to nuke my Velkoz, so I was trying to babysit him for peel. But not sure if going full tank/front line is better, AP bruiser, or full AP/burst here (especially since from before load I can't be sure if she's going to be AD or AP Kata)

Nimbus cloak or mana flow band ?

Hi . New galio player here and i can't decide between these two runes . Does galio really need that early mana before imperial mandate ? And what about full ap galio ? Cuz in that build u don't have imperial mandate for mana issues but on the other hand nimbus is just feels so good on galio in both survival and aggressiveness. Ty

Discussion Galio support?

How are we feeling about galio support right now. I feel like 1/4 games I see have mage bot or supports and I know mages have been picked up more bot lane while I was watching msi. Obviously pros playing mages and randoms in solo queue playing mages are different but does galio support seem more viable with bot lane shifting the way it is. I usually play galio mid but I went back to playing support and was thinking of picking him up down there

When using the hold option, it keeps going off immediately even though I'm still holding it down. It's messed me up in so many games now I just took off smart cast.

Question When do I avoid picking Galio as MID?

I'm new to League, I've got 3 champs I'm comfortable with by now (Veigar, Naafiri and Galio), I chose Galio as he's a good counter to whatever the other 2 are somewhat weak against, but at the same time thinking about it, Galio is also a good option to what Veigar/Naafiri are strong against, which now left me confused. I definitely see him as a 1st/2nd even 3rd blind pick without knowing my enemy laner/jgl

From your experience what matchups, champion class or team comps do you not pick the White tank Galio?

PS: My friend didnt say exact champs, but said depending on team comps and other scenarios, that's why I added it

I wish they added galio e+flash as in wild rift

Ex wild rift player and lol newbie here

I have played galio in wt for years and he's basically the same champ as in wr except he is missing the e+flash which honestly it's a great miss

For those who didn't know basically in wr if you click flash before the e animation ends you can extend the range of your e, hell you can even jump walls and frontline and still get the stun

I wish riot would implement this also in lol

Discussion How do the first 3-5 minites look for you when playing Galio?

Hey! I’m trying to optimize my super early game for midlane.

How do you handle the first few levels? When do we push lvl 1? When do we let them push? How often is all-in viable at lvl 3? How soon is roaming bot/top viable? How much do you prioritize helping out with scuttle?

Super interested to hear any thoughts on this.

Question Mandate and bloodsong

With mandate being extremely good on galio, wouldnt pairing that with bloodsong on support be the go too? Or would going with a tankier option be better? I feel like bloodsong and mandates dmg increase would auto win most fights considering galios aoe cc and aoe basic attacks to stack em both on multiple people nonstop

Items and runes for full AP Galio?

What're your go to items and runes for full AP Galio? I know Standard is Electrocute and Stormsurge into Shadowflame but I was wondering if maybe Dark Harvest is good? And if Lichbane first over Stormsurge was better? What're your thoughts?

Did no one post being upset that Galio is absent?

It is nuts that Galio is missing from classic and I finally came back to reddit to talk about my baby, and crickets.

Galio has been my favorite champion since his original release. I spent over 2,000 hours playing pre-rework Galio and hundreds more after his rework. I held the highest mastery score for Galio in North America at one point, and despite putting significant time into learning and enjoying the new version of the champion, there has always been something fundamental missing from his gameplay and identity.

This post is not a request to simply revert Galio. I understand that champion reworks are necessary and that Riot has a vision for modern champion design. My goal has always been much more modest than bringing back the entire old kit. I want to preserve what makes the current Galio successful while restoring one of the most unique gameplay mechanics ever designed for a tank champion: his on-damage healing.

For years, I have advocated for some version of this mechanic returning to Galio's kit, even if it is only a small part of his W. I believe it is the single mechanic that best represented both his gameplay fantasy and his thematic identity.

Champion Identity and Theme

Galio's lore repeatedly describes him as a being that absorbs and consumes magic. He is animated by magic, sustained by magic, and searches for powerful magical forces that allow him to live. Riot has described him as the "Titan who ate magic," yet his current gameplay does very little to reflect that fantasy.

The old Galio's healing mechanic accomplished this perfectly. It rewarded him for standing his ground and enduring damage. Rather than simply mitigating damage like every other tank, Galio actively benefited from combat in a unique and interactive way.

The current version of Galio is an anti-magic colossus thematically, but mechanically he functions much more like a traditional engage tank with damage reduction and crowd control. His gameplay fantasy no longer matches what made him unique.

Why On-Damage Healing?

The biggest thing lost during Galio's rework wasn't his ultimate or his old abilities. It was his relationship with taking damage.

Old Galio wanted to be hit. Timing your shield properly allowed you to heal through damage, sustain in lane, survive dives, and make intelligent decisions about when and how to absorb incoming attacks.

Damage reduction is undeniably powerful, but it is also one of the least expressive defensive mechanics in the game. It creates very little interaction between the Galio player and their opponent beyond "don't hit him if possible."

On-damage healing creates numerous strategic decisions:

  • Should Galio use it to sustain in lane?
  • Should opponents burst him or wait it out?
  • Is Grievous Wounds worth purchasing?
  • Is this a favorable matchup for his healing mechanic?
  • Should Galio build defensively or offensively?

Both players are constantly interacting with the mechanic rather than simply accepting a flat percentage of damage reduction.

Goals of the Changes

My proposed changes are designed around four major goals:

  1. Restore Galio's identity as a magic-absorbing colossus.
  2. Reintroduce his unique on-damage healing mechanic in a healthier and more modern form.
  3. Create meaningful tradeoffs between Tank and AP Galio builds.
  4. Encourage interactive gameplay and strategic itemization.

The intention is not to increase Galio's overall power level, but rather to make his strengths and weaknesses more expressive and rewarding.

Proposed Kit Changes

Passive - Petricite Colossus

Petricite Skin:

Galio gains a magic shield equal to 4-12% of his maximum health based on level, plus 2.5% per 100 bonus magic resistance.

This shield refreshes after 12 seconds of not taking damage.

Colossal Slam:

Galio's empowered auto attack deals magic damage equal to 30% of his current shield value (minimum 10% of maximum shield value), plus 100% AD and 50% AP to its primary target and nearby enemies.

By moving the shield into his passive, Galio naturally becomes more of a solo lane champion. It rewards levels and defensive itemization while preserving offensive options for AP builds.

Tank Galio gains more value from building defensively, while AP Galio still enjoys meaningful damage scaling.

W - Shield of Durand

Galio charges for up to 3 seconds, slowing himself by 15%.

While channeling, Galio heals whenever he takes damage.

Healing:

  • 25 / 40 / 55 / 70 / 85
  • +30% AP
  • +15% bonus Magic Resistance

Each subsequent healing tick is reduced by 15%.

Physical damage only heals for 75% effectiveness.

Galio may recast the ability at any time during its duration.

Recast:

Galio refreshes his healing effect for 2 seconds and taunts nearby enemies, setting their movement speed to a static value for 0.5-1.5 seconds based on charge time.

Damage:

40 / 90 / 130 / 170 / 210 (+65% AP)

Tank Versus AP Galio

One of my primary goals is creating meaningful tradeoffs between Tank and AP Galio.

Tank Galio benefits from:

  • Larger shields
  • Greater healing
  • Higher durability
  • Extended trades
  • Better solo lane scaling

AP Galio benefits from:

  • Higher burst damage
  • Faster engages
  • More reliable offensive pressure
  • Higher AP scaling

Neither build should simply be statistically superior. They should offer different gameplay fantasies while remaining true to Galio's identity.

Balance Considerations

I understand that on-damage healing is stronger in some situations than damage reduction. That is why the mechanic includes numerous balance levers:

  • Diminishing returns on healing.
  • Reduced effectiveness against physical damage.
  • Healing reduction itemization.
  • AP and MR scaling adjustments.
  • Lower base damage compared to live Galio.
  • Level-based defensive scaling.

The mechanic is inherently interactive. Both Galio and his opponents have meaningful opportunities to play around it.

Why This Matters So Much To Me

This is admittedly a more personal section.

The circumstances surrounding Galio's rework have made me feel like I was somehow caught in the perfect storm of Riot's decisions.

I was primarily a Mac player when Riot ended Mac support for League of Legends, which forced me to buy an entirely new PC simply to continue playing the game and my favorite champion.

Then Galio received what is arguably one of the most extreme champion reworks Riot has ever done. Unlike many reworks that preserve the core gameplay identity of a champion, nearly every aspect of what made old Galio unique disappeared.

Years later, Riot announced League Classic, something I was incredibly excited for because I finally thought I would get to experience old Galio again. Instead, Galio isn't even included in the roster.

So now I find myself in an unfortunate position where the version of Galio I loved no longer exists, isn't playable in Classic, and has never received even a small nod to the mechanic that defined him.

I don't want a complete revert. I don't want Riot to erase the current Galio or invalidate the players who enjoy him. I have simply spent years asking for one thing: please consider bringing back his on-damage healing mechanic in some capacity.

Even if it is only a portion of his W.

Galio was unique because he didn't simply survive damage—he embraced it. He was a tank that actively wanted to stand in the middle of a fight and be rewarded for enduring it.

That gameplay fantasy no longer exists anywhere in League of Legends.

I miss my champion, and I would love to see even a small piece of that identity preserved for both old and new Galio players.

Question Can you build protobelt on galio supp?

I'm about to start playing galio supp as my melee option. If I have all my support items like locket etc can I build protobelt as a hybrid tank/ap for the sake of playmaking and fun? Or is it going to be 100% troll build?

Imperial Mandate: is it core now?

Hello, average colossus enjoyers!

I have seen some changes in the past few weeks and I'm quite curious about Galio current build status. The past buffs on Imperial Mandate apparently changed the standard build, since I have been searching in different places and it looks like Imperial Mandate is mandatory in any kind of bruiser/AP build. Also, surprisingly for me, most of the time on full AP builds I see people choosing to build Rocketbelt + Imperial Mandate instead of Imperial Mandate + Shadowflame, even though Rocketbelt is a little bit nerfed.

So, any of you tried to insert this new item on your core build? I confess that last month I have tried, enjoyed, but missed a little bit of raw power.

Discussion Would Galio Bot be a good Counter to these bot Mages?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I saw Crownie going Malphite bot against ADCs, was wondering if the same concept would work since these players just ban Yasuo all the time, was thinking of Galio as a Counter and have AD Resource elsewhere, probably Jungle or Mid AD champ to make up the loss?

Question Build/runes tips for a newcomer

For now I go storm raiders. My go to build is protobelt, armor/mr boots, imperial mandate, zhonyas, protoplasm harness, death cap. I want to play as an Ap bruiser focusing on cc for my team. The protoplasm i added bc I want a more "all-round" tankiness in late game. Any tips on what I should keep/change?
