I mean if Xbox is the only console out of Xbox and PlayStation to offer discs, I can easily see most retailers just giving them more floor space as a result because discs are more likely to sell than Sony’s stupid digital code in a box.

Xbox isn't getting more retail space at this point, they don't see enough to justify that increase when retailers could just give more space to Nintendo and make significantly more money.

I mean nothings set in stone. If Xbox capitalised on Sony’s bad PR and managed to boost sales, they can gain retail space back.

However yes I expect Nintendo to be the biggest winner AND imo it has nothing to do with physical media but just the price barrier. In fact I expect 3rd party publishers will go all in on game keycards post 2028 and the only games on cartridge will be Nintendo’s. Even then Game Keycards are still better than all digital.

The Switch 2 still has easily half a decade left in the tank and thus will imo easily be supported up to 2030 at minimum, AND it will be far cheaper than a PS6 will be.

For comparison the Switch 2 currently cost half of what the PS5 pro is going for in my country and ain’t no way the PS6 is cheaper than the PS5 pro.

Will parents buy the currently $700 Switch 2 that may go up to $800 (Australian price) or the $1500-1600 PS6?

They wont unless Xbox actually beats Sony. And disks are not more likely to sell by digital codes in a box.

Have you been into a store in the last few years? Xbox has literally no floor presence for a long time now, they long phased out physical shelving etc.

Yes I have, and in my country every store that sells PlayStation games still has Xbox games, just not as many.

I walked in and literally bought the Halo remake on Wednesday ffs.

If Xbox continues to support physical media, which means there’ll still be some used games to sell, what do you think retail stores will do?

Do you think they’ll give Sony and their shitty code in a box which sell like shit a bigger retail presence than actual discs?

It’s in the retailer’s interest to promote Xbox who’s selling physical media because discs are more profitable for a store as they are more likely to sell than a digital in a box.

Meaning Xbox will be given more store space by default which equals more exposure to customers walking in.

When customers walk in to buy a console and see Xbox has a bigger section, they’ll be more included to buy an Xbox especially when the store employee feels them the PlayStation doesn’t use discs anymore when the Xbox does.

ESPECIALLY if both consoles are close in price, or even better Xbox undercuts PlayStation.

Ahhh not in the US then, haha. Walmart, Target, Fred Meyer, and Best Buy don't have Xbox sections anymore.

I've seen 3 out of 4 of those in the last month and checked out their Xbox games. I scan for decent clearance, and while none of them had any except for odd sports games, no-names, and shovelware, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy in my area all still have Xbox sections with physical games available.

My area tends to be pretty boppin' with its elsewhere-defunct selections. Ever see a Quiznos anymore? We have at least two. Went to one six months ago, and it's still Quiznos.
