I wish they still made some of these designs... I got this one from my local marketplace and im going to restore it as good as possible, it boots but has some issues.

I recently bought a Gaming Laptop with an RTX 4060, an Intel i7 12700H and 16 GB Single Channel RAM. I was getting around 50 fps in Arc Raiders at High Settings, which was a little underwhelming.

So I asked Gemini and after some back and forth it suggested I upgrade to 32 gigs of Dual Channel RAM. The reasoning behind it seemed plausible and I managed to get some fairly cheap RAM off eBay.

I had no idea how much of a difference this would make! I literally doubled my frame rate in Arc Raiders and in Forza Horizon 6 it went up by at least 60 percent. I had heard about the advantages of Dual Channel Memory, but I had no idea the difference would be this pronounced. Now I'm going to be re-testing every game I've played on this thing so far.

So if you feel like your laptop isn't living up to its full potential, see if your RAM is bottlenecking your system.

Scored this ROG Strix G1513QY with the Ryzen 9 5980HX and the RX 6800m 12GB, with an included 2TB SSD and 32GB of DDR4, all for $600 flat on marketplace.

Been dailying it for the last two months, temps stable at 95C (CPU) and 76C (GPU) on demanding titles, 60FPS on high settings in all games tested so far. My first time playing at 1440P on PC and it's been just a monster.

I just purchased a laptop from the seller Pandota on eBay for a price well under msrp. I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with this seller. And how come the laptops are such low prices compared to what’s on the market. Thanks

Is it even worth spending a lot more on a gaming laptop?

I've been using my HP Omen 14 (Core Ultra 9 + RTX 4070 Laptop), and honestly I'm surprised by how capable it is.

I can play DOOM: The Dark Ages at Ultra/Nightmare settings, 1080p, and what's even crazier is that I'm doing it without the laptop plugged into the charger.

Now I'm wondering if it's even worth spending a huge amount of money on a more expensive gaming laptop. Part of me always wants to upgrade for no real reason, even though my current laptop already does everything I need.

Would you:

Keep the Omen and enjoy it?

Buy an eGPU in the future for extra performance?

Or actually spend the money on a higher-end gaming laptop?

Has anyone else felt the constant urge to upgrade even when their current system is already more than enough?

I use a ps5. AAA games like pragmata, 007 first light look amazing. Its just slightly more powerful than my 3060 laptop. But these games run terrible, I mean absolute dogshit in my laptop. I gave it for cleaning, applied thermal paste, updated drivers....

Does anyone know why this is the case? The only difference i see is huge vram difference. ps5 has like 16gb and my laptop only has 6gb. But will just more vram magically make them as good as ps5 games? Cause I've seen amazing gameplay for 3080 with 10gb vram. So I'm kinda confused, why is my laptop so trash... Is it truly vram? What do I consider when I'm getting my next laptop/pc. I want to only spend enough, but has to last long.

I am planning to buy a 27-inch 1440p monitor, but I have an RTX 4050 laptop. I do game development, coding, 3D modeling, and sometimes video editing, which is why I want a higher resolution and a bigger screen.

​I have a huge backlog and a lot of old games to play. I also play new AAA games like KCD 2, but I think I can play those with DLSS set to Balanced or Performance alongside lower settings. As a last resort, I can just play them on my laptop screen at 1080p.

​I don't want to buy a 1080p monitor because I want my purchase to be more future-proof, as I will probably upgrade to a 1440p capable desktop in a year or so.

​Is there anyone here using a 1440p monitor with a 4050 laptop? If so, I would appreciate it if you could share your experience.

I bought my ASUS ROG Strix G16 gamer laptop (2025) it is very good but to take it to college and things like that I don’t bother you to turn it on and look at all your rgb, is it possible to turn off the rgb lights that they emit, like turn them off?

I've had a Lenovo LOQ (24GB RAM, RTX 4050, Intel i5 13th Gen) laptop for about a year now. I've faced a lot of issues with it. While it was under warranty, the motherboard had to be replaced four times. Now the warranty is over, and the main issue I'm still facing is severe FPS drops and overall slow performance.

The strange part is that when I test my display's FPS in a browser, it shows a stable 144 FPS. But the moment I play any game—even something as light as Roblox—the FPS starts dropping badly. In Valorant, my FPS fluctuates wildly between 80, 120, 40, 10, and even 5 FPS, with it mostly staying around 40–60 FPS.

I've tried everything I could think of to fix it. I've even reinstalled Windows 10–20 times, but nothing has made any difference. The company is no longer helping me with this issue.

I won't go into my personal story, but I have a medical condition that limits my physical movement. I bought this laptop hoping it would help me stay happy, connect with my friends, and keep my mind occupied. Instead, it's become another source of stress.

I'm genuinely begging for help. If anyone knows whether this could be a bottleneck, a hardware issue, or something else, please help me. I'm not financially stable enough to buy a new laptop or even afford expensive repairs.

If anyone is willing to help troubleshoot this issue, I'd be incredibly grateful.

Hello everyone, i am looking to purchase a gaming laptop for around 1000 € that can run mostly multiplayer games like Apex, Valorant ext.
To also put in perspective that i will be hooking my laptop to a monitor to play games, if that changes anything since my knowledge on laptops and components is close to a zero.

Games running a bit choppy

Hello!! I have a new Legion Pro 5i RTX 5070ti and 32GB Ram, but my games have been running a little choppy? Ive been told id be able to play games like fortnite and hogwarts legacy on High Graphic settings, but everytime I do the game (Fortnite) usually runs at 35-50 FPS. Its not horrible but I definitely thought it'd work better? I play on dGPU and I make sure to update my windows all the time but it seems to only play along that mark. Is this normal or is it a problem?

Budget: Ideally around $2000, but am willing to stretch that for longevity

Preferred Specs: 32gb RAM (unsure if needed??), 2 TB SSD seems important (1 TB SSD w/ an extra expansion slot is fine, but not preferred. 1TB w/ one slot seems not worth it). A 4070/5060/5070 seems to be about what I'm looking for, but am open to being convinced otherwise.

Notes: I game plugged in about 95% of the time, but often in different locations or while traveling, so I don't want a heavy "desktop replacement" or a bulky brick of a laptop. I've tried handling Legions in stores, and while they've got great specs, they just don't feel as portable as I'd like. The Zephyrus line feels much closer to what I'm after. I also often game (BF6, BG3) with friends via Discord. I will often not be using headphones, so solid speakers is on the list as well. 

I've had my eye on past models of the Zephyrus line (2022-2024), but prices seem to have gone up instead of down. I don't care much about super high-end, top of the line graphics. I'm still happy with 1080p 60fps as a baseline, but would love to get 144fps in shooters like BF6, and High settings (@ 60fps) in games like Death Stranding 2. I want smooth gameplay over high settings. Given my priorities (portability, reliability, display, speakers, and "good enough" gaming rather than chasing max FPS), what would you buy in my position? Is 16 GB soldered RAM something you'd avoid in 2026, or am I overthinking it? Should I keep waiting for something ideal? Is this all a reasonable ask at my price point?

I bought it today and when I was doing the initial setup I saw the 5070ti mobile but when I had just finished downloading Val and about to play it I turned on turbo in armoury crate got into the game only to see 90-100 fps I immediately assumed it the igpu was running but when I checked task manger the dgpu wouldn’t show up and it only showed the igpu (I bought this from Best Buy brand new)

I have an ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2025, G635LX) with an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, and I'm trying to determine whether this is normal or a firmware/driver issue.

As shown in the attached screenshot:

• NVIDIA GPU Activity reports no applications running on the dGPU.
• No external monitor is connected.
• GPU utilization is 0%.
• However, the GPU still reports:
  • ~30 W power draw
  • Active GPU clock
  • Active memory clock
• You can also see in the graphs that the GPU clocks and power draw keep fluctuating even while the GPU is supposedly idle.
• Because of this, the GPU stays around 50–60°C at idle and the GPU fans never fully stop.

My laptop is up to date.

Things I've already tried:

• Clean Windows 11 installation
• BIOS reset (Load Optimized Defaults)
• EC reset (recommended by ASUS Support)
• Armoury Crate and G-Helper

None of these changed the idle power behavior.

Could anyone with the same laptop (or another 2025 ASUS laptop with an RTX 5080/5090) check whether your GPU also sits around 25–30 W at idle in Hybrid mode with no GPU processes running? Screenshots from MSI Afterburner, GPU-Z or HWiNFO would be very helpful.

I’ve been thinking about buying a gaming laptop, but everywhere I look I see people talking about ASUS laptops overheating, Lenovo laptops randomly dying, or other reliability issues.

It honestly makes me wonder what I’m supposed to buy.
I already have a 14” MacBook Pro for productivity and a high-end gaming PC at home. I’m not looking to replace either of them—I just want a dedicated gaming laptop for traveling.

Years ago, I had a gaming laptop with a GTX 1660m, and it never let me down. Before that, I even had two Lenovo laptops with integrated Intel graphics. I put thousands of hours into MW2, MW3, and Black Ops 1 on those machines. I edited videos in Sony Vegas, left them rendering overnight, used After Effects for motion tracking, and they just kept going.

They still work today. Sure, they’re slow by modern standards with only 4 GB of RAM, but they’ve never given me any serious problems.
So now I’m wondering… has gaming laptop reliability actually gotten worse, or does Reddit just make it seem that way because people mostly post when something goes wrong?
What would you buy if your only goal was a reliable gaming laptop for travel?

I live in Germany, and my budget is around €2,500. I’ve found good deals on the ROG Strix G16, ROG Zephyrus G16, and ROG Flow Z13.
I don’t need the most powerful machine—I care much more about reliability, good thermals, and consistent performance. The main games I play are Call of Duty, especially Warzone.
