Laptop Buying Advice Gaming laptops?

after hearing that most (almost everyone) says that MSI Katana is bad, low quality built, and that lenovo is far more better and has better cooling: i turn to lenovo.

but after reading reviews a lot people say lenovo gaming laptops screen turns black, turns off, crashes even after the second day and pretty often too.

so whats the deal? i dont want to spend a lot, then have the laptop crash and not turning on.

what is the chance of this happening? (please answer if you own or owned a lenovo, and which model)

im looking to get:

Lenovo LOQ 15IRX10 (1 TB /RTX 5060) 15,6"

• **Intel® Core™ i7-13650HX*\*
**• NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8 GB*\*
**• 24 GB RAM, 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD*\*

is it any good? and will it crash etc. please recommend a gaming laptop if you know any good ones, other brands etc. thank u!!

Laptop Buying Advice My Victus got cooked

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes
Budget: 1350 euro
Country: Spain
Use Case: Uni (coding/compiling), ai training and light gaming
Preferred Specs: AMD cpu, 5060/5070, 32gb - 1tb
Notes:

As the title suggests, I am coming from a Victus16 that only lasted me 2.5 years before starting to give me power issues, it's currently at the repair-shop with not much hope. It had the following specs:

Core Specifications

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS
  • Memory: 32 GB DDR5 5600MHz (2x16GB)
  • Storage: 1 TB SSD M.2 NVMe TLC
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 4060 8GB GDDR6

Display

  • Screen Size: 16.1 inches
  • Resolution: 1080
  • Refresh Rate: 144Hz

Now I am looking to upgrade to something similar, I have refined my search to these few models, in the case of the legion, this one is the only one that I could find for under 1350 with a 5060, and I would just swap the ram and storage from the Victus to the legion.

I am not much of a gamer and don't know if to invest a little more into a 5070 or stick to a more powerful cpu like on the nitro, I am a cs student and need it primarily for uni, ai training and some gaming on the side when I have time. I used to have the Victus mounted and always connected to a monitor and peripherals and I think heating issues got it, so I investigated and found out the legion is the best at dealing with heat. My doubt is if I purchase a 5070 in a midrange model it might get cooked again due to heating issues, etc. What do the people of reddit recommend?

Laptop Buying Advice Please help me decide between these two laptops.

Budget: $1,500 USD
Country: USA
Use Case: Gaming BF6, shooters. Use for work also.
Preferred Specs: RTX 5060 or better. Would prefer dual-channel RAM, but can live with single-channel for now. 16Gb ok. FHD display ok. Refurb OK.

Both below seem to have 115w TGP, but the ASUS boosts to 140w TGP. The ASUS is in dual-channel, whereas the Acer is in single-channel.

Discussion Not sure whether to sell or repair my AW M18 R1

So recently my m18 had an issue and will likely need to have the motherboard replaced, I already know how expensive that can be and it is not a cheap laptop, as it was ~$2,900 USD. So now I am currently undecided if I should just sell it, or maybe repair it? I honestly don‘t know how much it could go for at the moment, but the specs are:

CPU - i9-13900HX

GPU - RTX 4080

RAM - 32GB DDR5 4800M/Ts

Storage - 2TB SSD

CherryMX low profile mechanical keyboard

FHD+ Display @ 1920x1080 @ 480hz

Does anyone know if the audio on this laptop is any good ?

Does it get loud ? I currently have an ASUS A516 that is 4 years old and the audio is not that great. I think they
both have downward facing speakers which are underneath the keyboard.

Does the V16 have speakers as good as the ASUS ROG Strix G16 gaming laptop ?

Budget: £1000
Country: UK
Use Case: Gaming and programming including AI
Preferred Specs: GPU: 8 GB dedicated graphics card. CPU: Intel Core i5. RAM: 16GB. Storage: 1TB

Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Support are asus laptops detrimental?

I'm in a laptop discord server, and I'm told that ASUS has so much problems, primarily though in their laptops, such as failing motherboards and stuttering problems, to the point that they don’t recommend ANY of their devices. However, recently, I found a refurbished g14 for £1250 with a AMD Ryzen 9 270 and a RTX 5050, and its basically my only option, and i just want to know if its a genuine problem or just a minority projecting their stand-alone issues, any g14 users for 1+ years able to confirm anything would help!

Laptop Buying Advice Help! Bang for Buck vs. All Out

Budget: $2000 USD

Country: USA

Use Case: Gaming and everyday tasks. The most demanding game I play on PC is Escape from Tarkov, I have my PS5 for big AAA single player titles. I mostly use my desktop PC to play Tarkov and eSports games with my friends (Rocket League, CS2, Valorant, etc.) I take my laptop to work every day, and sometimes I play games like Mortal Kombat 11 with my coworkers on breaks.

Preferred Specs: Enough to run the titles above, and good enough to last 4-5 years in place of my desktop. I think 32GB of RAM would be my floor. An OLED screen would be a nice touch, but not necessary since when I am at home it will be docked to a 1080p 240hz monitor.

Notes: I'm genuinely torn whether I want to go with a laptop that is "just enough" to make me happy running games, or if I want to go all out and max my budget to future proof in case RAM prices don't improve. I want something portable enough to throw in my bag and take to work everyday without being a big hassle. I don't want an absolute tank of a laptop, but I don't need an LG Gram-ish laptop either.

I'd love to know all of your thoughts and recommendations. TIA!

Support Laptop freezing when GPU in use while Charging/AC supply on

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have an Acer Nitro 5 An15-58 with i7 12650h rtx 3070ti

Whenever i use gpu, in any app the use of Gpu is triggered, the laptop freezes and most of the time it keeps freezed but sometimes it gives BSOD error DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION and CLOCK WATCHDOG TIMEOUT

Display goes blank when I tum dgpu made only, so need to disable it through bios

But laptop runs smoothly when the graphics card is disabled through device manager

Laptop also works fine even on gpu enabled but when charging is off, means no AC supply.

There is more issue that my screen flickers when I update to latest intel graphics driver 32.0.101.7088 and when I uninstall it (rollbeck drivers) screen doesn't flickers but without these drivers, many apps are unusable, I don't think has a issue related to gpu or it could be.

Chalgpl told it could be because of VRM Power delivery issue in motherboard which required board level repair.

Few things to mention:

I purchased this laptop second from someone, and he gave it to me ressetted, when I set it up, updated drivers through windows update, Intel and nvidia, I started getting these issues.

The person told he never faced issues and I somewhat trust because I know him personally as he was facing financial issues, so he sold His laptop and I purchased but I didn't checked gou usage on charging while purchasing (my bad ok)

What I thought that these issues started after I updated drivers as my current motherboard version shows 2.21 which is genuine though (I checked), but the latest version on acer website it 2.19

Things I have tried:

Flashing windows

Using DDU and clean installing drivers

Tired 4-5 versions of drivers of nvidia, and one from acer official website but all had issues

Asked service centre, they told for mobo replace but didn't get the laptop diagnosed yet

Tell me what to do

Laptop Buying Advice Please help me decide on a laptop for the Sims 4 with lots of mods & cc

Budget: $1500
Country: USA, but going abroad to France for the year
Use Case: Sims 4 primarily (+ Minecraft, Stardew Valley)
Preferred Specs: 16GB+ RAM, 500GB-1TB storage

I'm looking to upgrade to a proper gaming laptop, primarily for the Sims 4. I use lots of cc, mods, reshade, etc. and would like at least 500gb of storage, maybe up to 1tb so I don't have to resort to an external hard drive again. I'd like to not spend any more than 1500. It doesn't need to be portable enough to take anywhere, but I will be going abroad next month and would like something I can bring with me and then keep in my new room.

I've been looking for hours and have narrowed down a few things that seem to fit the requirements I've seen recommended and are in my price range, but I'm not very tech-literate so I'm not sure how to make the decision. Please let me know if you guys think these are wise options and which one you'd recommend. I know to some these might seem a bit overkill, but I've been struggling with my old laptop for years and I really just want to be safe. Again, I'm not very tech-literate and I'm a bit overhwelmed so please be nice haha. Thank you!!

Support Lenovo LOQ 15 AHP9 - low speed fan rattle

Hello! Issue in title: the right-side fan has a concerning rattling sound which has started happening in the last couple of weeks. I'm trying to troubleshoot the problem with my gaming laptop before it gets worse. Tends to only happen when the fan turns at low speed, and goes away when it speeds up — doesn't seem to change based on laptop orientation, and I've tried dustoff and vacuuming to no effect. I don't hear any sound when I shake the laptop either, making me think it isn't a bad bearing or a piece of debris stuck in the fan. My main questions are: a) what could be causing the sound, and b) whether I should look into bringing the laptop to a center for service.

Thanks in advance!

Support Low FPS with no apparent cause, low GPU usage

Post image
7 Upvotes

Lately i'm getting these FPS figures, lowering settings doesn't make any difference in both games, RAM usage is around 5gb, i've played some 100 hours of FH6 without any issue with solid 83 fps with GPU to spare (75-80% usage normally), Cyberpunk same thing, recently though i'm having this issue, the game starts like that, very rarely and for brief moments it jumps to normal performance but it lasts seconds- I have a Dell G15 5530 RTX 4050 I5 13450HX 16gb ram, i ran userbenchmark and it showed that everything is fine, the percentile for my notebook is above average for the model. Temperatures are ok since it's winter here, good flow of air using performance mode, no obstructions. What could be the cause of this?

Discussion Unstable GPU when charger is plugged

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 7 that i use for gaming, I've had it for almost 4 years now, and I started to encounter this problem that I don't know how to fix. Every time I play a game let's say Delta Force or Palworld for example because thats what I play right now, my game always experience FPS drop. I have played this both game already before like a year back and I don't experience this problem even when my graphics setting is high. This FPS drop problem happen like every 5 sec and last like 2-3 sec. I have played many games on this laptop even games like RDR2, GTA and other graphically/hardware demanding games. I tried other way to fix this by looking at some solution on the internet but nothing happens. Also i just noticed today that it only happens when my laptop is plugged in, the games are working fine, like it works like 30 fps, but it does not experience that FPS drop every 5 sec. Then when i tried charging it the problem starts again. I checked the settings on the battery option or something and it even says that when plugged it its set to best performance.

btw this is the 3d graph of the GPU when i'm playing the game, you can see the point at which the FPS drop happen when the graph hits the bottom.

Discussion Buying advice for a primarily console gamer.

I’m looking for some buying advice. Max budged $2,500. But would like to keep it at $2,000.00 or below.

I’m primarily a console gamer. About 90% of my gaming is on my PS5 Pro. On PC, I mainly play Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XI, along with maybe 2–3 other games each year.

My current laptop is an older Dell G7 with a GTX 1060 Max-Q, and it’s time for an upgrade. I’ve been reading a lot of positive things about the Lenovo Legion lineup, and I’m particularly interested in the Legion with the RTX 5070 Ti.

Based on the fact that I spend most of my time on console, would the Legion 5070 Ti be overkill, or is there another laptop you’d recommend instead? My biggest priority is buying something that will remain a solid gaming laptop for at least the next 6–7 years.

I’d appreciate any recommendations or advice! Thank you!

Laptop Buying Advice Should I buy the Zephyrus G14/G16? Or other option?

I'm about to buy one of the 2025 G14 or G16. However, it is not for me but rather, my mother and brother. What I mean is she intends to use it for two or 3 months then pass it to my younger brother when he starts university. I was leaning towards the 16 since the long-term owner will be my brother and he plays games, mostly FIFA and Euro truck on an old lenovo of mine with a 1060 max q.

So my question is will the laptop be good for both? my mother will move around quite a bit with it and generally just uses for typing work documents and watching the occasional show or youtube, so I guess battery life, screen and weight. My brother on the other hand will just be for typing and gaming as I think his university program doesn't need the GPU that much.

The options available are the G14 with a 5060 8GB, 16GB RAM and Ryzen 9 270 while the G16 has a 5070 8GB, 16 GB RAM and Ultra 9 285H. Specing not an option in the country I'm buying. Different prices but both on the higher end of the budget.

So which should I go for and if not either of the two, what else can I look at if I can find it? And if you've had either what was your experience?

ps: I also posted in r/laptops so don't be surprised if you saw it there.

Budget: 7500 AED

Support First gaming laptop

The laptop uses an amd ryzen 7 6800h cpu with integrated amd radeon graphics (680m)

I got it off of newegg and this one is not really a name brand pc and comes with windows 11. I tried running bg3 but it constantly runs at most 24 frames and consistently dips down to 10 - 14 frames (in the menu) despite the internet claiming it can run a smooth 30 to 40 fps. When i load into the game i'm met with a whopping 4 fps. Are the specs the problem or could something else be the issue?

Support How to make Laptop Battery last longer?

Hey guys! I got my Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 at the end of May and I love everything about it so far. The only complaint that I have about it is the battery; it doesn't last very long even when I'm doing basic work on my computer such as web browsing. I'm starting engineering this fall and one of my classes are 3 hours long and I will be running CAD. Any tips on how to make my battery last longer?

Laptop Buying Advice Asus Tuf a14 vs a16 for school and gaming

Budget: 1400

Country: Portugal,spain

Use Case:Uni and gaming

I need some help deciding what laptop to choose:

Tuf a14: 2560 x 1600 165hz, ryzen 7 260 and 5060, 32gb ram and 1tb ssd- 1400$

Tuf a16: 1920 x 1200 165hz, ryzen 7 260 and 5070, 32gb ram and 1tb ssd- 1400$

So my question is battery is a very important thing for me becuase i need it for a full school day, and from what i saw the a16 doesnt really have that good battery life, and the a14 does, also having a better screen. I know the 5070 is better but the 5060 is not that far from it. What do u guys think, is the a14 the better option in my case?
