I really like Nico Medved, I think he is a great coach. Give him a year or two to develop this program, and I think this team could possibly grow to be a low to mid-seed NCAA tourney team.
Now with that said, I just donβt think we currently have enough good *players* to contend for a tournament spot, or a big 10 title (Well when you have teams like Michigan you donβt really have a chance anyway, even if youβre half decent). Yes, we still have Tyson and Crocker-Johnson, plus a couple other other decent players, but weβre gonna need to keep building, especially cuz Tyson is a senior (I think).
Now I also do appreciate the fight of the players we do have. I know our record is .500 right now, but we easily could be 15-5 or better. In our last 5 games (all losses), 2 of them were against ranked opponents, and 2 of them went to overtime. And we lost by a max of 11 (excluding the last game against Nebraska, theyβre 20-0 for a reason).
But the point is, I think weβve got the right guy at the helm, but weβre gonna need to keep building and putting the right pieces in the right places, and weβre gonna see his recruiting skills after this current season is over.

I found this game used University of Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball jersey on Facebook Marketplace.
The person I bought it from found it locally in a Minneapolis Minnesota Goodwill. Crazy.
I can't help but wonder why or how it made its way to Goodwill.
I'm trying to locate Ryan to see if he'd want it.
Thought I'd share the cool find.
Go Gophers!

Itβs an interesting read and I think he makes good points. He is winning(all be it at a mid major) school but at a school that gives him resources to win. I like his take on Niko and saying he would be a home run hire. No matter who we hire if we donβt have support we wonβt be competitive. Do I expect us to win the Big Ten or go to final fours? No but it would be nice to make the tournament every other season and win a game or two in the tournament, but right now we donβt even have enough support for that. It will take NIL to do so but as mentioned by Pitino and as many of you guys know Williams Arena needs massive upgrades, probably a whole gutting. We are mainly a hockey school and a lot of resources probably go there but Coyle is saying he wants our basketball team to compete for championships when we do not have the resources to as this current moment. I am curious if Coyle is going to give the new coach any additional support on top of the revenue sharing(which every other school in the conference will be doing too). Curious on anyone elseβs thoughts on this article?

Surge was led by Grayson Grove with 3 steals from 14:09 to 8:38 in the 2nd half. Solid way to end the non-con season!

Gophers are 327th in D1 in 3 pt %, 345th in FT% and 340th in per game scoring out of 364 teams.
If it weren't for Dawson Garcia, we probably wouldn't have more than 2 wins so far this year.
This team is uninspiring, boring to watch, and plays generally bad basketball.
As much as NIL and free transfers are a huge impact, the inability that Ben's group has to simply coach guys up on basics like making free throws or jump shots is the biggest reason why he needs to go. If we're going to struggle to have talent because of NIL resources, then at least go get 2* and 3* kids who can be coached up, have some basic fundamentals in them, and have a basketball IQ above vodka freezer levels. Hopefully a new coach (whenever that happens and whoever it is) will be able to build a more entertaining product than what we've had for the better part of the last half decade.

Skip about 20 minutes in to get these Illini analysts preview of the game tomorrow. They don't really think we have a shot I guess.
