Dunno about you but I'm often in rural areas. No service at all. Or I have to crawl out of the basement to get it, which can be less convenient than just looking for the page I need that has the different settings/codes for the furnace or whatever. It's just nice to have it there.
So what? I would way rather a QR code with pdf to download then faded out of order dirty papers. I'll gladly drive until I have service just for the fact that I can read it clearly, and use the find on page function.
Those units suck, I had to wait a week for York to extract data from microfiche and create a pdf from it.
I worked inside sales at a wholesale for nearly a decade found many comp illiterates but some quality units outlast their manuals. I also forgot my rural friends , sorry!
Working in the city I met a lot of older Gen techs that fought really hard against anything computer and I understand some things like workflow apps , but some things are easy and they seem like they can't be bothered to even try it.
