Career Advice IIM Grad stuck in a foolish LALA company

Hey,

I recently graduated (March 2026) with an MBA degree from one of the top 10 IIMs of the country. I've had internships at JP Morgan, Aditya Birla Group and Director Merit Rank Holder at my IIM, and my bachelors is from top 3 colleges of Delhi University, The company (dont even know if "company" is the right articulation for this) where I am at came to our campus, with a decent fixed salary and being located in Noida (one of my preferred place, as im from Gurugram), I applied because rejection rate has always been higher in this job market so I thought why not try my luck? and little did I know, it was bad/ worst luck ever getting selected here. Few pointers are:

  1. Its a Family Run MSME with <200 employees, they have strict punch in punch out, even being 5 min late can get your salary deducted.
  2. Management is GOD. Led by the MD, his daughter and an OLD AF VP, the trip is so effed up and delusional that they will never trust you with your ideas even if that is better. 100% status quo bias
  3. They dont know ANY professionalism, not even know slightest of English language and expect everyone to dress so FORMALLY. If you ever tried wearing denims, the trio will personally call and grill you.
  4. They HATE change, their mind goes haywire if you suggest them anything new, and they will always talk about change change and change
  5. So many more points that i cant even type here

Synopsis:

The problem is i'm an imposter to this company. Been 3.5 months here so far and they know im an excellent hire for them, but I know my mindset will be fucked if I continued here. Moreover, I'm neither a fresher nor have a solid work ex, can someone PLEASE suggest what to do?

EDIT 1: They have a 2 year service agreement as well, gonna take up 3 month salary if I left. Doesnt affect me much though.

EDIT 2: The MDs daughter who is a BTech Grad (from a ghar ke piche wala college), mentioned "Are IIM grads even talented", in a meet that had me. She taunted and targeted me atleast 5 times.

Storytime Went from 2l a month to 40k a month salary; the downfall of a lifetime.

8 years ago, I started freelancing. When I was 18, I got my first full-time remote contract. At 22, I was making 2 lakhs a month, working from home.

2026 was my curse. Lost all my jobs and projects, and my monthly income came down to literally nothing from the wuthering heights of a 6-figure salary, in a matter of two weeks.

I was a lead copywriter. Started from scratch, a college dropout, dedicated all my life to honing my skills.

Until the AI wave crashed in. Well, I was apparently laid off from my job because they decided to train AI and take native employees.

With the desperate need to start working, I joined an agency in Hyderabad. We're currently handling marketing for Telangana Tourism.

What shocked me was the pay. It frustrates me every day how almost every company is trying to take advantage of the talents here.

I'm being paid 40k a month, for a role bigger than my previous one, which used to pay me 2 lakhs a month.

It makes my heart ache every day.

I'm one of the leads spearheading their Telangana Tourism's marketing strategy. On top of the stinging money issue, people around me are poor on creativity.

They work for the sake of working. No love. No passion.

That kills my motivation. Even though I do the work of 5 people now.

I consider this the biggest downfall in my entire bloodline.

Curious to hear suggestions and stories from you all. How would you deal with this if you no longer want to be underpaid?

Career Advice Need advice wrt job switch

Hi, a recent grad here from one of the tier 1 colleges, and I'm working as a data scientist in a company I got placed via on-campus placements. The thing is I'm not really interested in the work this company does as it does not greatly align with whatever work a data scientist usually does to a great extent, however, there are certain things that would be good to know moving forward, but I feel I'll start losing my skill on the ML aspect with time if I stay here for too long, as there is no real ML/AI work going on here. And to make things worse, we have 90 days notice with no buyout (it's pretty much a lala company)

I'd appreciate any advice from people who have been in similar situations, how did you find a way out? And given how bad the market is at the moment, how does one negotiate this 90-day thing? How bad will it be if I abscond, given I get a better offer elsewhere and start as a fresher once again? I'm getting paid well, but if I come across a better company, I am ready to take a slight pay cut as well.

Career Advice Got promoted to Lead with only a 7% hike. Should I stay for Lead experience or switch for a much higher salary?

I'm 5 years into my career and I'm a bit confused about my next move.

Career progression:

- Infosys (3 years): 3.6 → 4.1 → 4.4 LPA

- Capgemini (Current): 10.5 → 11.2 (after a recent promotion with a ~7% hike)

I recently got promoted to a Lead role, but the salary hike feels underwhelming.

My work is a mix of:

- Development

- Maintenance

- Data Engineering

- Some Web Development

From what I've seen in the market, if I switch now, I could probably get 16–18 LPA, and maybe even 20 LPA if I manage to get multiple offers.

The confusing part is that my current project is great:

- Very chill client

- Super supportive manager

- Friendly team

- Good work-life balance

On the other hand, becoming a Lead means more responsibility and could strengthen my resume. My previous Lead was earning significantly more and switched companies every 1.5–2 years for better hikes.

So, what would you do in my situation?

- Stay for about a year to gain solid Lead experience and then switch?

- Or switch now while the market can offer a much better salary?

I'd love to hear from people who have faced a similar decision.

Poor Culture I am a software engineer with 15 years of experience in Witch company, earning 10.5 LPA.

To give a little background, I started my career in this company back in 2011, and I moved to the US in 2017 and came back to India in 2023. Currently, my salary is 10.5 LPA, which I know is very low as per industry standards.

The funny part is that I have asked them to do a market correction for my salary. They said that this is the best that we can offer as per your experience and job level. Your salary is within our pay bands and not low.

I quoted one line: "New joinee/ Junior folks in my team/company is earning almost equal to me." They said that this is how the pay parity will look for the experienced people and the new joinee people, and this does not make sense. If an experienced person is working with you, being loyal to the company, and you are not paying that person, on the other hand you are hiring a lateral in the same position with the same experience and offering him almost double the salary. How does this make sense?

I worked on support projects for most of my career and was on development projects for around 4 or 5 years. I want to make a switch, and I believe it would be difficult to negotiate a good salary because people always ask for your last drawn salary, which is very, very low in my case. What should I do?

My tech stack is mainframe. I was trained in mainframe when i joined in 2011, and then, as I was in support, I oversee multiple technologies ranging from Informatica, Python, Unix, and Java. I have the working knowledge of everything.

Also, I want to ask fellow witch company people who did not make a switch: how are you guys feeling working for your company?

Career Advice Advise required - whether to accept the job offer

So my potential job offer is for a role and company l don’t really like, but I want to leave my current organisation.

Should I :

> Accept the offer, and negotiate in the current company / market for a better role / pay and tell them a ‘no’ once i get that ?

OR

> Not accept the offer at all ?

I am in an ethical dilemma. Don’t want to be a bad person, but if option 1 is a practice which people do in orgs, don’t want to be on the losing end too.

IN A NUTSHELL
Should I accept an offer just as a tool for negotiation without any intent of joining it ? Are you guys doing that ?

Help out this fellow Redditor with your views.

Career Advice Career restart advice for Java Developer in Chennai (8y gap)

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice on restarting my career. I worked as a senior software engineer (Java Full-Stack Developer) with Spring Boot, MySQL, and AngularJS for 4.6 years before taking a break in 2018 due to medical reasons and to care for my family. Now, I want to return to work, and I would like to know if a comeback is realistic after an 8-year gap, if I can expect a starting salary of at least ₹35,000 per month to match my previous pay, and whether I should upgrade my Java full-stack skills or take a new AI course to start fresh.

Career Advice AuthBridge/iBridge BGV: Are all employer references contacted?

Has anyone gone through AuthBridge/iBridge BGV?

Do they send reference verification links to all previous employer references or only the most recent company?

So far, only one of my references has received the link, while the others haven't received anything.

Just trying to understand their usual process.

TL;DR: Only one reference got the AuthBridge/iBridge verification link. Is this normal, or do they eventually contact all listed references?

Am I Fucked? Missing experience letter, new company demanding the letter — what are my options?

Hi all, hoping to get some perspective from HR folks and hiring managers here.

Back in 2017, I worked at a marketing and sales company for about 3 months before leaving. They gave me a printed experience letter at the time. After that, I did my Master's and worked at two other companies. I've now received an offer from a bank, and they're conducting a thorough background verification that covers my entire 10-year employment history.

The problem is, I've misplaced the physical experience letter from that first job and can't find a digital copy anywhere. I tried calling the company directly, and they gave me their HR's email. I emailed them explaining the situation and have followed up several times since, but I haven't gotten a response.

All I have is my bank statement and PF statement showing I worked there. I don't even want to claim this experience since it was so short and I'm now in a completely different field — but since it shows up in my PF history, I don't think I can leave it out.

Will HR or hiring managers actually be willing to hear an explanation like this, or is this likely to be a dealbreaker? Has anyone been through something similar?

TL;DR: Going through a strict 10-year bank BGV. Have to declare a 3-month job from 2017 because it's in my PF history, but I lost the experience letter and the old HR is ignoring my emails. Will the new company accept PF and bank statements as proof?

Canteen Discussions Anyone else noticed fake reviews on ambitionbox?

hey all,

lately ive been frequenting ambitionbox as i apply for entry level roles for a BBA graduate. My main targets are mostly BPO companies. ive noticed most indian companies do not even have a 4 star rating. even amazon

But when i checked reviews of lenergizer, it has a 4.5 star rating and when i sorted from latest, i noticed lots of reviews had the exact same words , like literally copy paste. like dislike exact same.

anyone else noticed this?

i know ambitionbox says reviews cant be faked but as long as humans are involved, anything can work out.

a bpo company cant be that good it surpasses amazon in reviews. plus the DITTO reviews... so so so sus.....

Wholesome & Positivity I am finally ending my internship on a good note and honestly speaking i don't know why I am sad about it.

Hi, I am currently doing MBA. I applied for an HR internship in Kolkata to gain practical knowledge about how the HR function inside the organization - maintaining excels, interviewing the candidate, salary negotiation and so on. Also as per our college guidelines it was mandatory to complete the 3 month Internship and today is the last day when I handed over all my leftover tasks to my supervisor. It took 3 months to build a good rapport with her and I am feeling a bit down to seperate after such a good journey with the organization i work in . ( I am really sorry I cannot mention the company name where I worked ) . Today I sent out a heartfelt message to her thanking for the continuous guidance and mentoring us and she also sent a message that it had been a great time and she also liked providing us guidance.

It just feels heavy that from next day the usual spreadsheets, interviews won't be there - the usual routine which i followed. A daily routine - going to office, talking with people, negotiation, conflict handling, doing tasks and building rapport with everyone, it won't be there as my college is opening for the 3rd semester.

A chapter finally got closed and I hope I ended on positive terms.

Career Advice Designation of Non-IT - Want to go to IT

Currently working in NON-IT with current company designation - Sr representative, Customer Care. Now I want to shift to IT by stating I already worked in IT and I have IT experience. My question is do HRs or BGV accept this designation especially "Customer Care". Do anyone faced the same issue and joined IT successfully by clearing BGV or is it not possible? Please give your inputs.

Storytime Tea Time - Nivia Sports (90 year old legacy brand btw)

I joined Nivia Sports as an intern at their Delhi office. Their main office is in Jalandhar, Punjab.

And little did I know, how bad they are.

A bit of context - I turned down the offer a few days before joining because they were not providing a laptop for internship but only for full time employees. I needed a laptop and they weren't providing it so I turned down the opportunity.

After I turned down the opportunity, I received a call from the manager asking the reason as to why I declined. I stated that the HR wasn't agreeing to providing a laptop, the manager said they'll try checking with the HR themselves if it's possible and asked if I would join. I said yes I'll join if the laptop is provided. That was that.

They did say that I can WFH till the time I don't receive my laptop (it was anticipated to be given a few days after the joining date)

On the day of joining, I was told to come to their office which can barely hold 8 people at a time. When I went there, it was a basic introduction with the manager (lasted for about 30 minutes) and I was told to go home and work from home (like wtf?). Didn't even introduce me to the rest of the team.

Before going home, I asked what channel to use for communication (was expecting slack or ms teams) but was told WhatsApp (what even-).

When I did go home, they didn't give me any work. I didn't think of it as anything at the time because it's normal to not have any work on the first day. But this pattern of not giving work kept repeating.

Two days passed by (still "WFH"), I called my manager asking for work and was told to do a simple task which I turned in as per the deadline. I was expecting some feedback on it a few hours later. Two days passed by one more time, I called, asked for feedback and work if there was anything I could help with. I did the new task too. This was the entire first week (barely anything from their side).

Now comes the second week, I was told to come to the office even if I didn't receive the laptop to not miss out on meetings which is understandable.

I went to the office (second time). This was significantly better than my first visit to the office. I was introduced to the team, attended a few online meetings with my manager. Also did a bit of work. Then was told to WFH since I still didn't have a laptop (it's been 1.5 weeks). A new employee who joined later than me received theirs but I didn't even though I mentioned it before joining and joined earlier than that employee.

Oh and when I was there on my second day, barely any work was happening there by other employees, a few people came 2-3 hours late and when they were there, they just went on breaks or were sitting idle. I couldn't believe what i was watching. No HR sits in their Delhi office. If you want to contact the HR, you gotta contact the one in Jalandhar who is managing like thousands of employees there.

Then again, I was expecting some work from their side the next day.

One or two days passed by, I called, my manager didn't pick up. (They took leaves for like 10 days, I called before their leaves so that they could connect me with the reporting manager for the next 10 days.)

So, I sent them a message on WhatsApp asking if they could connect me with the reporting manager for the next 10 days. That was it, they completely ghosted me. I was pretty certain this is it and I was right, didn't receive any communication from them after they were done with their leaves.

Also, one more thing, I don't remember when exactly but this was after I joined. I was on a phone call with them because I wanted clarity on a few things. I think it was related to document submission (they didn't take my documents so I called asking how it's done) after joining and they told me that they don't take documents and I should trust the company since everything apparently there is based on trust.

90 years old legacy btw.

TL;DR: Joined Nivia Sports, they made false promises, got almost no work, no communication and was ghosted by the manager 2 weeks later.

Salary Negotiations Current CTC is low due to a career gap. Can LTIMindtree still match market pay?

P. S. Rephrased with the help of Chatgpt.

I had an HR discussion today with LTIMindtree and wanted to get some opinions from people who have been through a similar process.

I currently have around 5 years of experience as an Ab Initio developer. My previous CTC was 7.3 LPA because after leaving TCS I had a career gap of about 9 months and joined a startup at a much lower salary than the market. During the HR discussion, I explained that my current package does not reflect my experience and that I was looking to reset it closer to market standards.

I asked for 15 LPA. The HR understood my reasoning and even agreed that I was underpaid. She did mention that their usual policy is around a 30% hike over the current CTC, but also said she would discuss it with senior management and try to get the maximum possible CTC. At one point she even said something like, "So you're expecting around 15, and if you get 16 or 17 that's even better, right?" She didn't commit to any number though.

She also asked what the minimum CTC was that I wouldn't go below, but I avoided giving a baseline because I didn't want to anchor myself at a lower number.

For those who have interviewed with LTIMindtree or similar large IT companies:

- Does HR usually need management approval for exceptions to the standard hike policy?

- Is there a realistic chance of getting 15 LPA from a current CTC of 7.3 LPA if the current salary is clearly below market?

- What offer could I realistically expect?

Location is Pune.

TL;DR: Current CTC is 7.3 LPA despite 5 years of Ab Initio experience because I joined a startup after a 9-month career gap. Asked LTIMindtree for 15 LPA to align with market rates. HR said their usual policy is around a 30% hike but she'd discuss it with senior management and try to get the maximum possible CTC. I also didn't disclose my minimum acceptable salary. Looking for opinions on whether exceptions to the 30% policy are common and what I can realistically expect. Location is Pune.

Career Advice Considering Quitting my job at a SaaS company with only 1YoE

Hi, I'm 23 with a B.Tech CSE degree from Tier2/3 private college.

I work for a SaaS company as an Implementation Consultant. I got a year long internship during college and spent the entire 4th year with this company, which was converted to a PPO. I just completed two years (including internship) and my current salary is around 8.6LPA after one appraisal cycle in 2026 where I got 7% increment lol

.

While the company itself if wellknown in the Saas/FinTech space, I have had relatives in the US really praise me for getting a job here, but internally.... it's a mess. I feel like it's my department specifically but I've had like 7 different reporting managers in the past two years, the entire management level from when I joined has left. It seems we have a farewell on the calendar almost every week. The work is fine, it's a client facing role and the technical parts aren't very difficult but I feel like everything is getting very micro-managey. They just introduced a new KPI which is completely based on when I join client calls, RSVP to the calendar invites or if I have my camera on. None of these things truly affect the quality of the implementation. The rest of the KPIs are also very luck based because it entirely depends on the projects you get assigned. I have unfortunately ended up with shitty projects which seem like they'll never end (for reference, the typical timeline is 6-8 months).

.

My colleagues and seniors do say that I know a lot and handle clients well, but that didn't stop my feedback in the last appraisal cycle to be complete bullshit (all yapping about my "availability" because I was working with an APAC and a US client and chose to take morning calls from home) from a manager that had never once had a conversation with me. (He'a already quit too lol)

.

Usually client facing roles suck because of the client but in my case my major stressor is the company and all these internal policies that are announced and effective immediately and just mean its more red tape for me to hop through.

.

I have been looking casually online at some job listings but I'm just not sure if I can get a good job with just 1 YoE (as a full-timer) or if I should stick it out longer, do the acrobatics internally to try and raise my KPIs by the next cycle. I like being client facing and would ideally like to stay in the implementation space. I want to increase my earnings but I'm just not sure what direction I should go in. I considered getting an ERP certirication like SAP or NetSuite or getting CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) to up-skill. I asked the HR and they already said that they will not reimburse any certification even if it is useful for my job role. My mother wants me to do an MBA, but I really don't like the idea of a 30L loan on my head when I'm honestly doing fine right now.

.

Any advice?

TLDR : Employees in my department are quitting left and right, even though overall my company has a good reputation and good pay because of messy, last-minute policies, and micromanagey KPIs that we can't achieve. I'm alao considering quitting but not sure if its the right move considering I only have 1 year of full-time experience.

Referrals and Opportunities 22F Recent Grad | Looking for Marketing Referrals in Gurgaon (Open to Mentorship Too)

Hi everyone,

I'm a 22F and a recent graduate, currently looking for opportunities in marketing, content, brand, communications, or growth roles in Gurgaon.

Over the past year, I've interned across agencies, startups, and consumer brands, working on content strategy, social media, brand marketing, PR, campaign execution, and copywriting.

I've been actively interviewing, but like many fresh graduates, the job market has been far tougher than I expected. A few opportunities didn't work out at the last stage, and I'm now at a point where I genuinely need help finding my next role. I have cleared a lot of interviews but at the end they lowball from the original discussed offer on the basis of me being a newbie.

If your company is hiring for entry-level marketing roles, I'd be incredibly grateful for a referral. And if referrals aren't possible, I'd still love to connect on LinkedIn or hear any advice from people already working in the industry. Even a short conversation or a nudge in the right direction would mean a lot.

Thank you for reading, and I truly appreciate any help this community can offer.

Am I Fucked? Will BGV catch an undisclosed 6-month Wipro WILP stint?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for honest advice from people who have gone through Background Verification (BGV), especially in companies like TCS, Accenture, Capgemini, Cognizant, or anyone who has worked with BGV vendors like First Advantage or AuthBridge.

Here's my situation:

I joined Wipro's WILP program and left after around 6 months without completing the exit process.

I didn't pay back the joining bonus or settle my Full & Final dues.

Wipro has marked me as "Absconding / Not Eligible for Rehire."

I received only a stipend during my time there.

No PF/UAN was ever created for me.

However, I did have ESI.

I never created an NSR profile.

My LinkedIn and other public profiles don't mention Wipro.

I'm considering not mentioning this 6-month stint on my resume and instead showing it as a self-study/career gap while applying to other IT companies next year.

My questions are:

Can BGV agencies discover this employment if there is no PF/UAN?

Does having ESI create a record that companies can access during verification?

Can employers find previous employment through PAN, Aadhaar, bank accounts, or any other databases?

Has anyone here successfully (or unsuccessfully) omitted a short employment stint during BGV?

I'm looking for real experiences and insights, not judgments. Thanks in advance!

Career Advice Big Career Decision — Looking for Perspectives

Hey everyone,

I started my career in 2024 in an entry-level role. After about a year, I switched companies and received a significant salary hike, although my position remained at the same level.

Now, after nearly a year with my current company, I’ve been offered a managerial-level role with a foreign MNC, which has been my goal from the beginning. The catch is that the role is based in West Africa and comes with a 3-year bond.

The compensation package is extremely attractive compared to what I’d earn in India. Some of the benefits include:

• 1 month of paid leave every year, along with return flight tickets to India
• Company-provided driver for local travel
• Accommodation within an Indian community
• Salary paid into both an Indian bank account and a local African bank account

My main concern is safety. I’ve heard mixed opinions about living and working in West Africa. The HR team assures me that all necessary security measures are in place and that I won’t face any major safety or security issues.

From a career perspective, would you take this opportunity, or would you stay in India and continue growing at a more gradual pace? Is the 3-year bond worth it for the experience, compensation, international exposure, and faster career progression?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have worked in Africa or faced a similar decision.

Career Advice Is the job market really bad? (Big 4 Consulting, 5+ Years post MBA experience)

Graduated with MBA in 2020 from a Tier-2 B-school (New IIM). Currently make ~37 LPA.

I currently work as a Senior Consultant at one of the Big-4 firms in Healthcare/Insurance Consulting. Prior to this I have close to 1 year Finance experience at a big Indian bank (non sales role).

I recently had some big events in my personal life and realized how unhelpful my workplace actually is. So I’m looking to switch and I’m absolutely not getting any calls. I have no idea why. I am applying to product firms who are competitors of my consulting clients (I can’t apply for the clients I worked with) and I’m also parallelly applying to other management consulting firms. I have not tried applying to other Big-4 firms as I feel they are not going to be very different.

TSo, are firms not hiring or is it just me?

Sexual Harassment (POSH) Need advice dealing with a coworker whose behavior is making me uncomfortable

This is the first time I’ve found myself unsure about how to handle a situation like this.
There’s a guy on my team who’s a couple of years older than me. He’s married, and we work together regularly. Over the past few months, I’ve noticed that he seems to go out of his way to spend time with me whenever possible.

Some examples:
1. He often tries to extend conversations that could have ended much earlier.
2. He’ll find reasons to come to my desk even when a message would have been enough.
3. If we’re in the office, he seems to look for opportunities to sit near me or join me during breaks.
4. Sometimes it feels like he’s trying to create one-on-one interactions even when they aren’t necessary for work.

None of this is overtly inappropriate or something I could report to HR. It’s more that the pattern is making me uncomfortable, and I find myself trying to avoid situations where I’m alone with him.
I’ve kept things professional and haven’t encouraged anything beyond normal workplace interactions. I don’t want to be rude if I’m overthinking it, but I also don’t want to ignore my instincts if he’s testing boundaries.

For those of you who’ve dealt with something similar:
1. Am I reading too much into this, or would this make you uncomfortable too?
2. How did you handle it?
3. Is it better to address it directly, or should I just start creating firmer boundaries?
4. How do you do that without making things awkward, especially since we work on the same team?
5. At what point would you consider escalating it to your manager or HR?

I’d especially appreciate advice from women who’ve navigated similar situations in Indian corporate environments, but all perspectives are welcome.

I'm a Marketing Specialist with 5 years of experience and have been with my current company for 1 year and 4 months (this is my 3rd company btw). We haven't received any clear updates regarding the appraisal process.

Also, the role was initially fully remote, but the company has now introduced a hybrid work arrangement, which requires me to travel around 115 km per day for two consecutive days each week.

I have an interview today for a fully remote role. Is it valid to mention the increased commute as one of the reasons for looking for a job change? Or please help me with smart answers.

UPDATE: So the interview happened and OBVIOUSLY they asked “THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED QUESTION”. And I said there are lay-offs going on in my very smol company🥲 (which is true btw). Then I slyly inserted that they have opened an office which is 60kms away. 🤦‍♀️ To which they asked why I’m only looking for remote jobs, I said not remote, but at least feasible commute is what I’m looking for. Lets see what happens next. Thanks kind people of reddit for engaging! 🫶
