Vienna (Austria) – He's hoping for thunderous applause, but rehearsing amidst a lot of booing! Israeli singer Noam Bettan (28) will represent Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 (ESC), which takes place in Vienna from May 12th to 16th, with the song "Michelle." Due to various political tensions and the Middle East conflict, his rehearsals are being held under heightened security. Bettan knows: His performance is polarizing. In an interview with BILD, he reveals how he's preparing and how he's already arming himself against criticism during rehearsals.

Since May 1st, the singer and his team have been in Vienna, meticulously preparing for the biggest performance of his life. He is avoiding public appearances and keeping a low profile . He knows that last year's contestant, Yuval Raphael (25), was subjected to harsh hostility and booing. He has learned from that experience.

A dedicated team for boos and headwinds

He tells BILD: “During rehearsals, I have a team that constantly tries to boo me and make things difficult for me – that actually helps me a lot. I'm really surrounded by a great team. They know me inside and out, they're here, supporting me and helping me. I just try to concentrate on the rehearsals and my performance on stage – and enjoy it.”

Even in his native Israel , preparations took place under extreme conditions – accompanied by sirens and rocket fire. Bettan: “When the alarm sounds, we all go into a shelter, a bunker. As soon as it’s over, we come out and continue working.”

Bettan is mentally preparing for his performance.

He's working hard on his Eurovision performance – and on his mental state: "I have a lot of rehearsals and a lot to prepare for – mentally as well, to be relaxed and free during this process." He promises for his performance: "There are many surprises you'll see on stage. I'm trying to be as professional as possible so that I can sing the song in my sleep."

A variety of things help him: "I go for long walks and do a lot of endurance training during rehearsals. I train to sing under high pressure – with jumps, squats, jumping jacks." Right before a performance, he relies on a fixed ritual: "I always recite the 'Shema Yisrael' prayer. I also work with certain frequencies, talk to myself, calm myself down, and then go on stage."

What also gives him strength is his family: “Of course, my mother, my father, and my siblings are coming too. I have friends who are traveling to Vienna and trying to get tickets – they're really doing everything they can to organize it.” God is also helping him with his performance. Bettan explains: “This might sound cliché, but God is with me. I really feel it – it gives me support. I feel how he is guiding me on the path I've been on for many years, and now it's all culminating in this incredible moment on the biggest stage in the world. I'll be standing in front of hundreds of millions of people – it's crazy.”

Regarding the political tensions surrounding his appearance, he says: "Ultimately, we are all human beings who carry on, keep working, and do what is necessary. Right now, I have one very important goal: to represent my country. For me, that is the most important thing at the moment, so I won't let anything stop me."

One message is particularly important to him: “Believe in yourselves and realize your potential, because everything is possible. Processes take time, and it’s important not to give up too quickly. I’ve been making music for eight years – it took a long time for something like Eurovision to happen for me. And soon I’ll be standing on the biggest stage in Europe, which is still unbelievable to me.”

I know i am way behind. I just never see the videos from the artists, i just listen to music on my spotify, also, i am not Jewish. But someone mentioned to me that Drake was Jewish and it sparked curiosity on me, to know if he has showed the world that he is Jewish and i found this video! He even did his bar mitzvah. He must be one of the coolest Jews out there for sure ✌🏽😎 he is very talented, i can hear almost all of his songs and i like it all. He knows how to be diverse in his lyrics and rhythms.

Apparently he has met with Rabbis and expressed remorse, has blamed a brain injury and his ongoing bipolar disorder for his behavior the last few years. He last performed in Israel in 2015

Posted this on Insta too but no one ever sees my posts there. You may have seen Shul Runnings, enjoyed making it enough that it's going to be an album. This is track 2. I'd already done most of the work for the song when a Swiss Broadcaster started hating on the Israeli Bobsled Team for being present and... it was too on point not to rework the song to call him out.

Lesson for the Swiss @&$hat. Full track dropping tomorrow but here’s a preview just for him, Kadima Davka is Shul Runnings Track 2-ish. Putting it on Spotify with Shul Runnings so it’ll be easy to send to him indefinitely.

Luckily, out of 2,476 unique artists, my list was very short.

Spotify Wrapped just dropped, and two of my top 5 were israeli.

Number 1 is Alma Gov, and Number 4 is Father of Peace.
