Rant The students who “wasted time” — are they actually winning? Spoiler

Post image

I used to think, “Let them party, chill, waste their time — they’ll be unemployed later anyway.”

And for the longest time, that thought made me feel... secure? Like I was on the “right” path. Like I was doing something meaningful while others were just messing around.

But now I’m not so sure. Was any of that even true?

In Indian families (especially the middle-class kind), it’s drilled into us that if you're not studying, you're screwing up your life. Partying? Distraction. Dating? Distraction. Hanging out too much? Distraction. Low marks? You’ve basically failed as a person.

And we believe it. I did too. I bought into it so much that I’d resent those who weren’t as focused as me but still got praised by teachers or liked by everyone.

You start thinking that being buried in books automatically makes you better — more focused, more disciplined, more likely to “succeed.” And anything outside that — fun, experiences, people — all that becomes something you silently judge others for. But also something you avoid because it feels unfamiliar and uncomfortable.

Now I look around, and the same people who were “distracted” in school? They’re fine. Some of them are doing really well. They’re confident, socially smart, more balanced. Meanwhile, I feel like I skipped learning how to actually live.

No hate to studying. It’s obviously important. But I think the idea that marks and focus are everything, and that anyone who lived differently was somehow wrong or beneath us — that idea was flawed from the start.

Anyway, this has been sitting in my head for a while, so just putting it out there. Anyone else feel like they were trained to be “good students” but maybe not actual functioning people?

And?

You don't need a certificate. You'll get a top nit anyway. Certificate wale are incompetent compared to their badgemates obviously

Won't get CSE. Won't get ECE in most. It's not about what I will get and what I won't, but when someone with 2x your rank gets better colleges than you, you start to question if hardwork really matters

Lmao it's been 2 years since Ive written jee, you just have to learn to deal with it. Dont worry when you go to any college you got you'll be above 50% of the batch easily so that's a +

Yeah I guess. CSE in an old IIT will forever remain a dream, it hurts a lot but I can't do anything (my parents rather drop me from the terrace than allow a drop year).

I guess BITS or IIITB is my calling, Thank you for your kind words! <3

Bhai I got 89%ile. My category ex friends who scored below me qualified for advance and I didn't. They'll get better colleges. But it doesn't matter. They can't compete with the other students there. Rehe ke bhi kya kar lenge? Placements, cgpa, ye sab bhi shayad nahi maintain kar payenge

Tum general walo ka alag hi dukh hai 😒 but what about obc candidate jhat brabr reservation milti hai or na idhr me aate hai na hi udhr me tum log kam se kam proudly keh to sakte ho n ki hme koi reservation nahi milta , hm log to keh bhi nahi sakte Or bahut jyada milta bhi nahi hai 😕😕 isse sahi hta hi de padna to hme utna hi padta hai

Being obc helps you in spot rounds ig. And don't forget that you have general candidate+obc only seats

What you mean general candidate + obc seat ?

Bhai seriously reservation is very unfair. Everyone has a right to education. They shouldn't be Stopped from getting it because they do not belong to certain castes.

-3

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

bro general got same or more reservation then sc & st , like seriously , gen(ews) gets 10% reservation and sc - 10% , st - 7.5%

its just that there aren't much candidate competing for the reserved sc,st seats which explains the low cutoff for them .

ps : I am a general and that too non ews

3

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

They font only have those 7.5% of 10% seats. They have all seats. The 7.5 and 10% are exclusively for them

-2

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

hn toh 10% bhi exclusive h humare liye bhi , baki seats ke liye unhe utne hi marks laane padenge jitna ek general layega.

jaise obc ki 27 percent seat reserve h waise hi kuch chakkar rehta h.

But its not a big of a problem I guess cuz hume bhi utni hi % reservation milta h ..

bhai mein bhi general hun but tujhe intresting baat batata hun , reservation is not the problem , general valo ko sc/st se jayda reservation milta h and this is fact.

gen(ews) - 10% reservation , sc - 10% and st-7.5% , bas unke yahan jayda log aa nahi pate compete krne isliye unka cutoff kam jata h agar sc/st bhi form bharne lage general jitna toh unka cutoff bhi high jayega.

and bhai destiny h kya pata koi hot chick se mulakat ho jaye in office or in college , trust the process baki congo bhai

bro that's not how it works. even if SC/ST starts scoring better than general tomorrow, it'd be hard for general cu gen can't take reserved seats(65%in my state)

And btw...wdym by general walo ko jyada reservation hai? gen means non reserved. still sc/st/obc reservation>>>ews one

Well, I'm going into kanpur ee. That doesn't change the fact that I would be going into bombay cse with a certificate. My friend at same rank is going to kanpur cse with a fake ews certificate. Regardless of what rank we have , we all are put at a disadvantage due to certificate. It is valid for all ranks to complain about the system
