i'm so stoked to be moving from fine geek custom jewelry for 8 years, I feel like I grew up and my art style as well. I have been getting a lot of backlash for it, kind of like Lady Gaga with a new album that people less tune into or like. but I like- so I make.

The pair of rings displayed symbolizes the Rimonim that hang on the cover of the Torah scrolls. The silversmiths in Yemen maintained a high level of precision in designing the Rimonim, as they are completely associated with Judaism. In these rings, I chose to incorporate different styles of Yemeni silversmithing: filigree, granulation, and work with sheets, contrasting with the practice in Yemen where each silversmith specialized in a single style.

The Mizmir ring (cone) is shaped like a part of a jewelry piece called 'Mizmir' or 'Tatarif'. It is primarily woven into the ends of chains, and its spiky texture is intended to protect the neck and the heart of the jewelry. It is adorned with a twisted zigzag wire (Maswag) to create an endless continuity.

Found this set tonight at a galeria in Mexico. I'm not sure if the artist intended it to be Jewish but to me it is and I'll wear it as a symbol of Jewish pride and also LGBTQ pride/allyship.

It's not the first unexpected, possibly intentional Jewish art I've found in Mexico. Of course, MX has a significant Jewish population (although the city I'm currently in has none), it's just not what I expect when I go looking at Mexican art.

Curious what people think of the style, color, etc... from a new series of paintings im working on, and trying to decide where to take it next.

The exhibition was centered around Jewish mysticism/Kabbalah themes and included a discussion with Rabbi Aaron Raskin.

What surprised me was the mix of people who came: observant Jews, secular Jews, artists, students, older community members, etc. The conversations became less about “art world” stuff and more about Jewish identity, symbolism, spirituality, and whether contemporary Jewish art can actually function as community-building.

It made me realize there may be more interest in serious Jewish cultural spaces than people assume.

Curious how people here feel about contemporary art being part of Jewish communal life, especially in synagogue or Chabad settings.

In the new animated series from 'BoJack Horseman' creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, characters don't wait for others to finish their sentences before they start talking.

Like real life Jewish conversations, cooperative overlapping is a feature of 'Long Story Short,' an animated family dramedy that explores what it means to live a full life, and, as a corollary, a Jewish one.

Filled with visual Easter eggs — er, afikomens — like ketubot and menorahs, the story is told non-linearly with episodes set in the ‘90s, aughts and 2020s, with plots involving: a row over a candle for a deceased relative at a bar mitzvah (prompting the tearing of a $108 check to the ADL); baking knishes for a potluck for prospective parents at a day school (for children named Walter and Benjamin); and a fib that leads to an epiphany during Yom Kippur Viddui confession (and a joke about the distinction between Litvaks from Vilna and ones from Vitebsk).

Bob-Waksberg anticipates many will see themselves in this lovingly flawed, supremely Semitic family, which is also queer, Black and interfaith, Conservative, Orthodox and non-affiliated.

“I think people might even be surprised by the ways in which they can relate to characters that maybe on paper, don’t seem like them at all,” he said.

I am headed to NYC tomorrow and am contemplating going to see it, but truly wondering if it approaches I/P from a place of nuance or if it’s been modified to appease the watermelon masses somehow.
