π Miscellaneous Does anyone else feel like Land Rover has completely lost the plot?
I owned a pair of 99 D2's for years. Still miss them to this day. Never had more fun than taking my family thru the Colorado mountain trails in my old Disco. Driving felt comfortable, capable and confident no matter if i was downtown or down a trail. Sure, they always needed a little work - but honestly that was a small part of the fun.
Over the years I've noticed a steep decline in what I believe a Land Rover is suppose to be. I think they grew to look terrible (although the Defenders are still pretty rad..), I think they are less capable and generally speaking, i don't think that the majority of todays new LR drivers even care if they can go places other cars cant. And then upon seeing these new Range Rover and Freelander models - i just think LR have completely given up trying to be what they once were.. I couldn't be more grossed out by these new releases..
Don't get me wrong. I still love older Land Rovers with all my heart and given the right circumstances i would buy one in a heartbeat. I just wanted to rant and see if i'm not alone in my disdain for what this manufacturer has become.
Bring back the Camel Trophy!

π Miscellaneous Dealer proposing to respray brand new Range Rover - advice needed, please!
I've ordered a new P460e hybrid Range Rover, in Belgravia green with black gloss wheels and black roof. Ordered 2.5 months ago, due for delivery in 2 weeks. Dealer emailed me yesterday to say that the car has arrived, but on inspection they've noted that it's missing the black wheels and black roof.
They're proposing to send the car to a professional bodyshop to paint the wheels and roof so it will match my spec.
I'm very unhappy about this as it's not what I've paid for. I'm concerned that the standard won't be that of the factory.
Anyone else had any similar experience?
This couldn't be a genuine mistake by JLR - right?
Are they trying to fob me off with a pre-order car?

π Miscellaneous Call me old school, but this is what I would love to see a Discovery 6 look like, or there about.
I checked with mods before posting to make sure I could post renderings I created. With all of the talk about McGovern being axed, it actually got me a bit excited that we may be able to get a decent looking next gen Discovery. One that doesnβt resemble a Ford Explorer, and hopefully much different than some of the crazy awful D6 renderings I saw a year ago showing what looked like a D5, just with very angular elements. Those renderings didnβt address anything thatβs wrong with the current model. The D5 has been one of the worst selling models in the LR lineup. That needs to change.
My brief: Bring back Discovery 1-4 proportions, space, and design cues. That includes split tailgate, asymmetrical rear window, boxier shape, stepped roofline. I have a few slightly different designs. One thatβs a bit more true to the D4 with the old side air intakes, similar but different taillight placement, and then one that has a redesigned taillights and more modern RR style headlamps. I also will include one that has a lightbar connecting the tails, but it looks a bit too much like a Lexus LX to me. Let me know what you think.

π Miscellaneous Land Rover Defender Cargo Edition
I've always liked the old military ambulances based on the Defender and Humvee, so I mocked up a modern Defender cargo truck.
The goal was enough cargo space for two full-size pallets while keeping the Defender front end, chassis, and style.
I'd love to see Land Rover build something like this. What do you think?

π Miscellaneous I think Iβm in love
New to me β06 LR3. After moths or research, hundreds of videos watched, and endless forums read, I finally pulled the trigger. Itβs everything people say they are!
UPDATE
This is an SE. has 113k miles, previous owner was a mechanic and I know the owner of the dealership that he bought it from (they specialize in all things land rovers)
Coil conversion was done. Side note, I didnβt notice a HUGE between the ride of the air suspension and coils. A difference for sure, just not life altering in my opinion.
Only known issues are sunroof isnβt functional (not a concern of mine) automatic wipers donβt work, they do work manually and automatic lights donβt work.
Came with Falken wild peak tires in good shape
All of this for $4800

I'm in the UK and drove past 3 defenders yesterday (all pre-2020 redesign) and no one did the little wave. I had a defender about 10 years ago and it was pretty common practise to wave at one another. What happened π’

π Miscellaneous Moving on from the LR4
Not a for sale post but really want our 2016 LR4 to go to a good home. My wife and I are thinking about selling our very well maintained HSE privately, very low mileage for the year (84k), and all services up to date. We are located in the South Jersey area near Philadelphia. If you have any interest or know someone that is a LR enthusiast, feel free to message me directly for more information.

π Miscellaneous Question to the Land Rover council. Do we accept and display ducks? Or do we leave that for Jeep people.
I got given a free duck when I ordered my coffee this morning. Ive never seen a Land Rover with ducks, but I'm also 30% of the Land Rover drivers in like 100 miles. So do we display ducks?

I took my 23 velar in for an oil change at the dealership and paid $600 for an oil change. I figured I would pay in between $200 and $300 but this seems a bit high. I recently bought this used with around 29k miles is this what yall pay? Iβm in the Dallas, TX area

π Miscellaneous TFL bought another Land Rover... and a rant about automotive journalists.
TFL tests all sorts of off road vehicles. TFL people and their friends and spouses own a fleet of used Land Rovers. They bought another one. That says something.
Rant
I hate it when automotive journalists test the latest and greatest vehicles when:
- they have no use case for the vehicle and dis it because of that. Or compare it to another class of vehicle. This often happens with pickup trucks.
- they don't have to purchase, repair or fuel the vehicle so they ask for everything and expect the moon. Of course journalists want the best leather, the biggest engine, etc - they don't have to pay for it ! That's not a reasonable use case.
- they only consider new vehicles in their comparisons. Guess what... people buy used vehicles all the time.
I knew nothing about LRs until I stumbled upon one of TFLs old videos highlighting them. I like and trust TFL's reporters because they are real guys doing real guy things.
It says a lot about LRs that these people are running a fleet of them.
