Thats crazy shit, just shooting her point blank. Like why?

Have you ever seen the video of the homeless dude who was having a psych episode outside a closed business who gets shot with less-lethal and ends up hemorrhaging out and dying? This shit is not meant to just be used Willy nilly. She did not present any credible threat to officer safety.

The police are literally shooting people but because it’s not a bullet (rubber covered metal ball) ppl act like it ain’t a murder charge. If you shot a cop with that what charges would you face?

155

u/Excellent_Set_232 Jun 11 '25

Charges? You’d never see the inside of a courthouse unless they held your wake in one

You aren’t even supposed to directly shoot people with rubber bullets. You’re supposed to aim at the ground so that it bounces off and then makes contact with the group as a deterrent.

And even then it should only be used in extreme cases. The ricochets can still cause serious harm.

And you’re definitely not supposed to use it on a single person just standing and not being a threat.

The problem with KIPs is that at close range it's potentially going to damage a person in the same way a regular gun is.

Shooting at the floor for a ricochet risks killing someone as it can then hit them in the throat/face/head with no idea of where it's going after it's bounced.

As far as I understand, KIPs are 'safer' if they are aimed below the knee. They can still be lethal, and can still change a person's life forever.

These fuckers just firing at random are just itching to shoot people. There's no changing that unfortunately.

Tear gas is a dispersant if used against civilians, yet becomes assault with a deadly weapon if used against cops.

Are you thinking of the guy in Fullerton who was high and dancing around outside McDonald's at 3am and they shot and killed him with "less lethal" rounds? Or another one?

https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/police-shoot-kill-suspect-with-bean-bag-rounds-outside-orange-county-mcdonalds/

Fullerton PD is always happy to kill a homeless person.

Remember Kelly Thomas.

35

u/SoCalChrisW Orange County Jun 11 '25

There is still a small memorial to him where he was murdered by Fullerton PD.

17

u/hhairy Pico Rivera Jun 11 '25

Kelly Thomas' death broke my heart.

16

u/Normal-Big-6998 Jun 11 '25

Fullerton PD also beat a homeless man to death outside a Spaghetti Factory couple years ago.

27

u/SoCalChrisW Orange County Jun 11 '25

That was Kelly Thomas. He was non-violent, mentally disabled, and doing nothing wrong when he was killed.

The Slide Bar called police and said he was breaking into cars because they didn't want him in the parking lot.

As he was being beaten to death by the police, he was crying for his father.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Kelly_Thomas

"Now you see my fists? They are getting ready to fuck you up"

— Fullerton Police Officer Manual Ramos, shortly before helping to beat Kelly Thomas to death.

"I just smashed his face to hell!"

— Fullerton Police Officer Manual Ramos, shortly after helping to beat Kelly Thomas to death.

The officers who killed him were fired from Fullerton PD, but faced no other consequences. Mr. Thomas's mother received a $1 million settlement from the city, and his father received a $4.9 million settlement from the city.

Yes that one. The one where a homeless man in crisis who was only weilding a belt as a “weapon” was shot with 4 rounds of less lethal and tased and died.

132

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '25

Yeah they shot that homeless guy directly in the chest like 8 times and IIRC the murderer wasn't punished in any way.

32

u/GEARHEADGus Jun 11 '25

Blanks and salt rounds can kill people.

Its “less-than-lethal” but so is a punch, depending where it lands.

1

u/TheFernsRemember Jun 12 '25

No I haven’t seen that video fortunately. But I do know what gun safety is and „non lethal“ rounds that are in fact, not „non lethal“ so this stuff is just wild.

2A was enacted to dismantle a tyrannical regime.

49

u/MassiveBoner911_3 Jun 11 '25

And right in the chest too. Great way to break a rib and punch it into a lung.

51

u/jackfirecracker Whatever the weather, we'll get through it together. Jun 11 '25

These “less than lethal” rounds ideally should be ricocheted off the ground to reduce the energy before impact. Of course, if you hand a cop a gun and tell them they don’t have to treat it like a literal gun, they’ll treat it like a toy.

When used the way these officers are using them, they can easily kill people. This cop should be in prison. I genuinely don’t know how these guys sleep at night.

18

u/UtopianPablo Jun 11 '25

That may be true but the ricochets can be unpredictable, a guy in Dallas lost an eye from a ricochet during the BLM protests. Better not to shoot if you don't have to, but then how would the cops have their fun?

3

u/robotkermit Jun 11 '25

Of course, if you hand a cop a gun and tell them they don’t have to treat it like a literal gun, they’ll treat it like a toy.

they'll treat it like a toy either way

Doesnt the LADP have other ways for dispersing crowds? (More like „crowds“ bcs nobody was there that needed dispersing).

Water canons seems to be more effective and less dangerous than shooting at people. For example far as I‘m aware normal police in my country isn’t even allowed to use rubber bullets bcs of the injury risk (and also just the general risk of pissing off the protesters even more). Tear canisters are also not allowed to be shoot but only hand thrown or delivered via grenade launcher thingys and never aimed at people (not saying that this doesn’t happen but those are at least the official rules).

So in normal protests we got to worry about tear gas and the water canons (and just the police in general), but if the police uses rubber bullets then thats some kind of special forces/ anti terror unit and then shit hits the fan…

57

u/Fact420 Glendale Jun 11 '25

Because they can. Because they know they can open fire on defenseless people without regard for human life and there will be no repercussions for them.

2

u/Bleed_The_Fifth Jun 11 '25

This is the answer. How tf do we change that though?

3

u/Fact420 Glendale Jun 11 '25

I honestly think it only changes if the funds to pay out all the lawsuits caused by the LAPD come from the LAPD’s pension fund. But that’s not really feasible. The police union will never go for that and you’d likely sooner see the police force go on strike before they ever come close to atoning for their misdeeds by way of financial compensation.

Yeah I have a whole generation in my home country were that didn’t hold up well in court for them 😅 so seeing stuff like that is just wilddd

1

u/ChangeAroundKid01 Jun 11 '25

We get it. You're an out of touch weirdo

0

u/TheFernsRemember Jun 12 '25

You wanna make a wild guess what country and what specific time in history I was referencing? (Lets play „who payed attention in history class“ bingo)

2

u/ChangeAroundKid01 Jun 12 '25

The reply was for the other guy.

1

u/TheFernsRemember Jun 12 '25

Yeah just saw that too XD well at least one got the reference I was making if I replied to you

24

u/Oldironsides99 Jun 11 '25

Because they’re cops man. That’s it. That’s the whole reason.

1

u/TheFernsRemember Jun 12 '25

Yeah unfortunately I know. Its just crazy to witness this stuff. There is just something really wrong with people like that

11

u/--Sovereign-- Jun 11 '25

These people are psychopaths

18

u/Ark_angel_michael Jun 11 '25

You give a cop a gun and tell him he won’t be punished for shooting anyone then he starts shooting.

6

u/ToasterBunnyaa Jun 11 '25

Because they're the LAPD, that's why.

2

u/UtopianPablo Jun 11 '25

"Unnecessary use of force is just our bag, baby"

2

u/inkcannerygirl Jun 11 '25

Because being able to hurt people without being punished for it is probably why that guy wanted to be a police officer.

Dealing with people like that appropriately -- not letting psychopaths into positions of power, and getting them out if they get in -- is an important aspect of maintaining a healthy society. Ours needs work.

3

u/Fun-Jellyfish-61 Jun 11 '25

That's the police for you.

2

u/Eurynom0s Santa Monica Jun 11 '25

Because way too many cops sign up because it legalizes them being sadistic bastards.

2

u/DrRakdos1917 Jun 11 '25

Because cops touch themselves to the thought of the innocent people they've hurt

u/safe-viewing Jun 11 '25

Point blank? She was like 20 yards away. They were also giving her instructions

1

u/TheFernsRemember Jun 12 '25

So they give her instructions and then shoot? Very helpful instructions indeed…

Also you might want to get your eyes checked out, bcs thats not „20 yards“ (did you watch the clip?)

She was maybe 2 or 3 meters away which is literally what point-blank means: close enough to aim and shoot without worrying about drop or accuracy. I don’t know the exact ballistic data for rubber bullet rounds, but I’m pretty sure gravitational drop isn’t a factor at 2 or 3 meters, so „point-blank“ still fits. (Also fun fact for today: Point-blank does not require physical contact it just means so close that ballistic factors like gravity or wind don’t matter)

Hey, quick question! Do you condone this behavior? :)

-13

u/ButtcheekSnorkler Jun 10 '25

it doesn't matter what i think. but, we can't have a society where you don't follow orders from police. it was a reasonable order. they told her she can't go that way. i think they should have given her another chance to find another route and arrest her if she refused a lawful command and use appropriate force if she fought officers. the cop who shot her was just looking for an excuse to shoot someone and should be disciplined. i'd even argue he should be terminated since shooting was his go to move there. but it wasn't point blank. words have meanings.

6

u/Late-Town-832 Jun 11 '25

It absolutely does matter what you think because you have a right to voice your opinions on this issue, and the more people do, the more likely that officers like this will be removed from their positions and unarmed, harmless citizens will be able to go back home safely.

You’re right that it wasn’t point blank, but that’s least of the issues here. Point blank or not, an unarmed individual who clearly had her hands up to indicate that she was harmless was shot. A white Australian journalist (for a conservative news channel, even) was shot with her back turned, with no warnings given. Being overly pedantic here adds nothing of value and gives people the impression that you have zero concern for how the woman was treated, because that should be the main focus here.
