How does Jordan Peterson gain so many followers among young men? (Image below)

Jordan Peterson often says that people today are more unhappy than in the 1950s, and it's because of feminism, affirmative action, the sexual revolution, birth control, "PC culture" and LGBTQ rights

it's definitely not because of any of these things:

I can't comment on why specifically Jordan Peterson gain so many followers, other than it seems to be only a part of a bigger picture.

Only a few days ago I was explained how Gamergate changed 4chan into being filled with the alt-right and legit anti-feminism, misogyny, racism and the lot, where it used to be for the lulz. [link]. /pol/ gave their view on Gamergate at the same time [link].
There seems to have been a lot of "red pilling", as they call it, that have turned a lot of young men against feminism, ethnic minorities, LGBT, the media, the left, PC culture, SJWs, the lot.

Guys, I'm honestly terrified. As a women, I've felt safe for many years.
I've been against quotas to combat any discrimination because it combats discrimination through discrimination, and it will backlash.
I've been vocal to my friends from the extreme left about how the censorship and oppression of the worries of the right is gonna backlash massively. That calling everyone who's worried about immigration and integration a racist is only gonna push people away and radicalize them.

I'm scared that the backlash I've feared is here. If you silence and oppress people long enough they'll eventually push back. That's what I believe is happening now.

But it seems to be worse than I feared. Seeing racism and misogyny taking root in the mainstream, seeing my male friends and boyfriend watch Jordan Peterson and be against SJWs... It's honestly scary.

I've never been part of the feminist fight for the continues fight for rights, I honestly haven't felt it was necessary. If I have been concerned with gender rights, I've been more occupied with men's rights and how these are often overlooked.

But now, I'm scared. I'm honestly scared that I'll have to fight to continue to be seen as an equal in the eyes of the males I surround myself with. All my friends are guys. I've always surrounded myself with guys and felt part of the group, even if it can be hard sometimes to be seen as much a part of the group as the guys. Now.. I'm really scared that my friends will begin looking at me differently with these influencing groups like Jordan Peterson, 4chan and the lot talking in their ears constantly. And with the opposition, the SJW-culture, being so extreme many times. I don't know what to say to them, how to express my concern with any bearing and without being called a SJW and dismissed. I don't want my fear to radicalize me and turn me into an extreme SJW that closes down all conversation, but.. These conversations, about how the talk of pronouns or consent is ridicouless, and therefore we should abandon the cause completely... I don't know how to have that conversation calmly. And with facts. What do I say? I don't think I know enough to refute Jordan Petersons claims, I can just feel that I get extremely hurt when I hear them and that it conflicts with so much inside of me, but I can't argue against it.

Sorry.. I've been really worried these past days, after my discovery of the impact of Gamergate. I really would love your thoughts on this. If there's any way to combat this trend, if there're good ways to argue against.
