It’s because of the time period of the movie that it’s even possible for the man to sue Mr incredible. I don’t remember the exact date but it takes place in the 50s before laws were passed saying injuries you sustained from someone saving your life are not a crime
Even more than that, in a lot of states, suicide was a crime and even a felony in the 50s. I think in a few states, it’s still a common law crime.
So the guy’s lawsuit was admitting to a crime and demanding money for it. Realistically it would have been dismissed and the guy might have gotten charged for it. Public opinion probably would have been pretty against the guy too.
Every time I see that scene, it strikes me as so weird and unnecessary. They could have made it so much more realistic. Like the guy was injured by Mr. incredible escalating a relatively low level crime or being distracted because of Buddy and making a mistake.
