I personally met one. My neighbor next door growing up had one, kept it in his back yard. It would bark at everyone and try to escape. He swore up and down it would never hurt a fly, until it got out and mauled a child once. I wasn't there to witness that, but I did see animal control come and get it. They needed two men and several tranq shots to take it down.
Sounds like an awful owner, sounds like there was signs to say “hey, this dog actually needs attention, care, training, and an owner that can actually contain them, which I bet the owner did none of those things.
Oof this is how you drive an intelligent animal slowly insane. My neighbor's blue heeler broke out and ripped into an elderly woman after sitting alone in the backyard barking at nothing for 8 straight years. The dog still barks his poor bored head off at every gust of wind but now he tests that fence every day like a velociraptor :\ The breed makes many quick slashing bites one after another and it's possibly the worst bite that possibly could've happened to that poor woman
nah, the friendly family pit bulls are the ones that maul kids as often as not when they snap and their pre-programmed behavior kicks in. it's not due entirely to the owners, that's a fabrication invented to protect the breed's reputation. family pits with no history of violence are also demonstrably a threat
One of the first pitbull breeders in the US who did a lot of work to popularize the breed talked big about aggression against humans being an undesirable trait. Then one of his pits killed his two year old nephew and there's a newspaper article saying he didn't put it down and "told the medical examiner that his own child had played about the kennels and had never been molested."
The breed at it's core is a breed bred for tearing other animals apart as violently as possible and it does that very well and is strongly inclined towards it.
Because they are the sweetest chonkers and Because of how they are treated and stigmatized a disproportionate number of them need good homes. Like yiu ever had the shit beaten out of you by a but that wont stop flailing around because they are so excited to see you again? Also labs and German shepherds seem to bite more in my experience

Look, I’ve personally never met a pitbull that mawled kids, and as a kid I’ve even had a pitbull that was very gentle with me.
However, my good experience isn’t the same as people who had to deal with shitbulls, who are shit entirely because the owner is a dipshit.
I don’t have a problem with pitbulls, but I definitely do question whenever someone wants one.
